2. I really love 'The Girl From the Well' by Rin Chupeco, and the sequel.
3. Vampires
4. Yes, and size 8½
5. Practical Magic
6. Caramel apples, and caramel apple suckers

This was just okay for me. Parts of it were reworked interesting when they got into the history of the legends but there were a lot of characters and I felt like I couldn‘t keep them straight half the time. The story was creepy and interesting, but the style definitely bugged me in certain parts and made it a bit confusing.
This book was so good. It was creepy and scary at times. I loved it.
This was a lot darker than I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to middle grade but it wasn‘t. So it was pretty creepy for me. Based on Japanese folklore I believe.

Great creepy ghost story. The narrator is very good so I recommend the audiobook highly. The next book in the story is the suffering and it is only a so-so for me (it also has a different narrator) the main reason is in the girl from the well the ghost is the narrator and she‘s interesting and in the next book the teenage boy is the narrator and it is hard to make a teenager interesting to anyone but another teen.
I completed 7 books out of 30 for #Screamathon !
October was a crazy month, and 7 is a good number. I really enjoyed expanding my book genres

I stayed up late listening to this…it‘s 4am & I feel so disappointed. I wanted something scary! I wanted to be scared. ☹️ It started off SO GOOD! Then from chapters 10-20 it was dragging. It was more about the kid than about her. For some reason I didn‘t connect with the boy. Then from chapter 20-till the end, it picked back up again. I‘m not a fan of the end, but it was okay.

Vengeful spirits, curses, Japanese exorcisms....what more could you want? I really enjoyed this one, and now I want to read up on the ghost story it‘s based on. +16 #TeamHarkness #Scarathlon2020 #Screamathon2020
3 hours yesterday. I also watched 3 episodes of The Addams Family. +336 #TeamHarkness #Scarathlon2020 #Screamathon2020 #BookSpinBingo #OutstandingOctober #TrickorTreadathon #ReadLikeHellathon #FallReadathon #FortnightFrights #Thrilloween #Gothtober #RockyHorrorReadathon #SpooksandTea #BookishBingo #CocoTurns50
Wonderful and beautifully dark. Reading the description last night, I ended up with nightmares (I was far too young when I first watched The Ring), but this book is not the thing of nightmares, really: it‘s twisted and dark, but the heart of it is beautiful.
This book is ultra creepy at the beginning but kind of fizzled out for me. Maybe because I switched to audio? Does anyone else have that issue?

My final time for #alternate24in48 wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but a friend from grad school asked if he could stay with me as he was passing through Nashville, so my evening of reading didn't happen. I'm still pleased with my progress! @Librarybelle
I didn't realize this was YA for about half the book! A boy has been tattooed by his mother ar a young age and is being haunted by 2 spirits, a vengeful woman in white who finds the souls of murdered children and a mysterious woman in black. I can't wait to read the next book!!! #BBRC #FirstInSeries @LibrarianRyan
A very interesting story and creepy-ish, would definitely read more from this author.
“He begins to drive his shoulder against the wood, his efforts redoubling once he realizes I have followed him out of the bathroom, slithering, slithering, #bone joints cracking and noisy from disuse.” #QuotsyOct19 #AllHallowsRead #GiveAScaryBook
I think the idea is pretty solid, but I found it to drag a bit, with a pretty exciting end. I don‘t know if I‘ll continue with this series, but I‘m glad I checked it out. #scarathlon #teamStoker 3 points #scaryScavenger Hunt 1) black cover 2) part of a series
October is here, and I‘m trying out #scarathlon and I‘m on #teamStoker so this is my first scary “monster” read. Let‘s do this!
This was so good. It took me a while to actually pick it up but I‘m very glad I did

The writing in this book is fabulous and incredibly unique. I enjoyed every second of both this book and the sequel. It gives wonderful new perspectives into each characters lives and differences.
The Girl from the Well offers a mix of Japanese folklore, ghosts, possessions, and exorcisms. Chupeco has a remarkable writing style, and she brings great characters to life in a tale of horror and hope.
A big thank you to @Jess_Franzino for the book. Your reading tastes are always impeccable!
(2014) Recommended to me by my nephew. Okiku is a spirit of vengeance who kills child-killers. Then she meets Tarquin, a boy bound to an evil ghost who would like to kill everybody if she could only find her way free -- and she almost has. It's okay YA-horror, heavily influenced by J-horror films.
Tower of Due, February 2019. Only one holdover from last month, so I'm pretty happy about that. What should I prioritize?
Missed yesterday.
#adventrecommends Day 9
A great story. Great writing. Great characters!

This was a reread for me and I still love it. If you like The Ring or The Grudge, I recommend picking this up.
1.) My “Writer‘s Block” candle, which I soon need to buy a replacement of.
2.) About 7
3.) Milk Chocolate
4.) Not often! I like keeping my hair long, though, I do trim it every few months.
5.) Tagged as post. Highly recommend, especially if you like Japanese horror or just a great ghost story.

I‘m starting to REALLY enjoy the work of Rin Chupeco (author of “The Bone Witch”, which I read last month & just bought the sequel to). This book was AWESOME. I love Japanese horror (esp. ghosts), & lyrical writing, so this book was right up my alley! Perfectly creepy & visual with compelling characters. Also rather cerebral. It also has a sequel, which is taking all my strength not to download right now!
Thank you so much @JamieLou The books are fantastic. I love all the bookmarks, especially the web and a bookmark bracelet that is just cool and practical. The mug is very cute. I love the blanket and socks. I feel very spoiled with all the candy, tea, hot chocolate and coffee.

What books would you recommend?
“I am where dead children go.”
This book is fabulously scary, bloody, and suspenseful. It is a YA horror book that combines teenage angst with a Japanese ghost story.
Good writing and story but the characters felt flat. Not sure it was very memorable either. Still would give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️
It's not like this book is bad, but my motivation to read it is fairly low...
My last couple of days I have felt obsessed with romance and horror to the exclusion of other genres. Since I just fed the one side I may as well feed the other. #LitsyAtoZ
My 2nd book finished for the #24in48 #readathon was fantastic! This was written so well, there are pauses between words in places that were perfect for that sentence. The authors style was such a joy to read, even when the story was at its creepiest. I‘m definitely tracking down her other book, The Bone Witch. 10⭐️
Aaaannndd I‘m off! Once again on the #24in48 #readathon merry-go-round. I have about a third of this left, then I may start My Favourite Thing Is Monsters or maybe The Wicked Deep. Loving the hell out of this book though, no one does creepy horror better.
Taking a short break from the #24in48 #readathon to have dinner at my youngest boys new house. I‘m so proud of him🤗 I‘m halfway through this book, it‘s one of the creepiest novels I‘ve read in a while. I‘ll have to get The Bone Witch by this author, her writing is lovely(but spooky)I live how the book looks naked, reminds me of The Ring.
At the halfway point of the #24in48 #readathon and I think I‘m doing pretty good so far. I‘ve finished a book, done a few hours of an audiobook & now am devouring this super creepy novel about a murdered ghost girl who takes the souls of murderers. So glad it‘s bright daylight outside!
#24in48 #Readathon Hour 6 Challenge is #MarvelousOpeningLines “Choose the best first line from your 24in48 stack” This one stuck with me, it‘s so lonely, heartbreaking & sad.
“I Am Where Dead Children Go” - The Girl From The Well : Rin Chupeco.
#BookMail No3 is a horror novel set between America & Japan. It owes a lot to classic “J horror” like Ring, Dark Water & OUT, which I love! Ring is one of my favourite horror movies of all time, both the US & the original Japanese versions. In this, Okiku is a restless spirit who was murdered & now she spends her eternity taking the lives of child killers. Until she meets Tark, a boy with an evil inside him, contained by his mystical tattoos.
Happy Halloween friends! Stay safe and find a spooky book!!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 #imaslowreader
