I never win anything, but this was fun to participate in!!

Sometimes to touch us, God touches someone that‘s close to us. This is what opens our eyes to the fact that there is a higher power than ourselves, whether we call it God or not.

Our limitation is God‘s opportunity. When you get all the way to the end of your rope and there ain‘t nothing you can do, that‘s when God takes over.

Yesterday, National Book Day, was kind of a pathetic attempt at getting further on my hours for Bookly‘s Spring Readathon. I ended up getting just over a half hour of reading in.

But, I made up for it today!! Over 10 hours complete in the #BooklyReadathon.

Hoping one more long session of reading tomorrow will get me to the end of this second book!!

It is important to recognize that people from different racial, cultural, socioeconomic, political, and religious backgrounds can find common ground. Kindness, respect, and a genuine desire to help is what brings the characters in these books together. I didn‘t agree with some of the tenets of the authors, but they left me feeling hopeful about the ability for us to start healing the deep wounds of racism and hate. #AxeTheStacks

This is my new favorite book. It captures America through two very different perspectives and tells an incredible story of love, faith, and renewal. It was an absolute pleasure to read.

These books were “stolen” off my mom‘s shelves and I would really like to get to them soon. According to my mom they are very good.

What did you think of these?

This book was recommended by my friend at the local Union Gospel Mission. I had seen the cover before but never thought about reading it. I am so glad I listened to my friend as it was a great story. I cried through the middle and couldn‘t put it down. In the midst of so much negative news this story is a shining light.

This book has a powerful message about not judging others and just being kind. I loved that and I really enjoyed Denver's side of this story. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't a big fan of Ron's side which is what made this not a pick.

#TIL This book taught me that homeless people don't reveal their names to others unless they really trust the person because someone could use it against them to get them in trouble.

I almost never plan what I‘m going to read ahead of time. Usually I finish a book then stand in front of my TBR stacks until something jumps out at me. So I decided to give it a try this month. Some of these I‘ve had for quite awhile. We‘ll see if I actually stick to it or not 😉 Starting with the tagged.

The book felt like it was trying too hard...not sure how else to explain it.

Favorites: The Martin, Conversations with Friends, The Lacuna
None was terrible. Mostly 4 stars for Jan. Good start to the year.

Got broken up with via 2 am text a week before Christmas after almost 3 years together. Today will be a #readathoninbed. Let's see how many books I can finish.

January's church book club pick is off to an interesting start - nonfiction told by both the black homeless man mentioned above and the rich white man speaking.

I‘m not really sure how I felt about this book 🤔 I‘m not sure if it was the way it was written, or the story itself, but I kept waiting for the moment that it would just..grab me, I suppose, and it never did. It was really slow getting started, but I kept going hoping that it would pick up, but it just continued to flatline.. BUT it was a beautiful story in itself; the characters, the references, quotes, and overall “point” of the story was ⬇️

Albeit a long quote, it is powerful. This entire book as been full of phrases, paragraphs, and conversations that have just grabbed ahold of me and haven‘t let go! I began this book thinking it‘d be a quick, light read but so far has been quite a lot more! I am anxious to finish it! I hope you all enjoy this”quote” as much as I did 🤔😊

I loved this audio. It was abridged. So now I want to read the full story of these two men.

I really liked this book and the unique perspectives that help show what happens when people drop their judgments and give others a chance. This really displays strong relationships, some hesitant, that changed the lives of people around them and helped them build strong bonds with each other that carry them through their darkest times.

I am half way through this book and I must say that it‘s pretty interesting getting to read the stories of two characters discussing their completely different, but similar upbringings and how both their hearts were changed and also views on many things by a person who was dear to both of them.

Awesome get together with book club babes this afternoon at The Historic Fox Theater in Hutchinson, KS to watch the movie"same kind of different as me"because we read the book last month. Although there were differences in movie, it did not take away from the book?

Finished"Same kind of different as me" while at Sea? Moving-tender-revealing-spiritual-hopeful? and a few tears❤️ I can't wait to see the movie now with my book club babes. Glad to be back on land once again-but oh what fun we had.

Upstairs read. There‘s also downstairs reads and Kindle reads and Serial Reader reads and car reads.

Basically, I have to be reading several books at once.

First read for 2018! Just started this compelling and already heart wrenching novel. This is my Book Club's January read and discussion. New Year's Resolution for 2018....52 books.... One each week! It might be tough to accomplish with teaching full time and cross-stitching a baby quilt😳

I truly enjoyed reading about Denver and Ron. What a wonderful relationship between the men, children, friends, Miss Debie and God. I could relate to Ron, Debbie and Denver too on many things they saw and experienced. Glad the story has been told.
My perception of the homeless community has changed. This should be required reading for those seeking higher education in any field.

It was a decent book, but I think a lot of the memoir didn't need to be in there. Ron Hall made it less personable and relatable. I LOVED reading about Denver Moore; his life was so interesting and he overcame so much in his life.

I'm hoping to actually finish out this month's reading challenge. Happy October!
