Quiet Girl in a Noisy World
Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: An Introvert's Story | Debbie Tung
This illustrated gift book of short comics illuminates author Debbie Tung's experience as an introvert in an extroverts world. Presented in a loose narrative style that can be read front to back or dipped into at ones leisure, the book spans three years of Debbie's life, from the end of college to the present day. In these early years of adulthood, Debbie slowly but finally discovers there is a name for her lifelong need to be alone: shes an introvert. The first half of the book traces Debbies final year in college: socializing with peers, dating, falling in love (with an extrovert!), moving in, getting married, meeting new people, and simply trying to fit in. The second half looks at her life after graduation: finding a job, learning to live with her new husband, trying to understand social obligations when it comes to the in-laws, and navigating office life. Ultimately, Quiet Girl sends a positive, pro-introvert message: our heroine learns to embrace her introversion and finds ways to thrive in the world while fulfilling her need for quiet.

Sometimes I poke around the bonus borrows in #hoopla and end up finding fun stuff like this comic. The author has written an even more bookish one than this as well.

I love this little comic book. The author truly captured the struggles of being an Introvert. I really felt a deep connection to the story. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Word_Dragon Thanks for sharing! I'm always looking for books about being an introvert. If you haven't read it yet and don't mind nonfiction, you mind find Quiet by Susan Cain interesting. 2y
AshRaye @Word_Dragon I have heard a lot about Quiet, but I haven't gotten the chance to read it yet. Thank You for suggesting it. I'll have to move it up on my TBR list. 2y

That was really good. Funny, poignant, sad, and enlightening about various aspects of intro version. The black and white watercolor is beautiful. I can relate to many of the components of this and most definitely the love of books and tea! It also had a nice story arc to it, rather than just a collection of web comics thrown together. Love the above page. We all want to be better at things we‘re not good at! Whether introvert or extrovert!

January #bookreport
I started January in a reading slump like I normally do,
then Quiet Girl grabbed me and I got back into reading. I loved Who is Vera Kelly?, Winter Counts, and Addie LaRue ❤️❤️❤️ But I‘ve just finished Addie and I don‘t want to read anything else - slump is back!
The 2 on the right are what I have out from the library, but I don‘t think I want anything serious. I think I need another Fun Romp. Suggestions?

Caroline2 Hmm, I can‘t think of any fun romps...I‘ve been reading a lot of dark, sinister reads lately! 😆 3y

When I was a kid (and teen), I had a lot of social anxiety. I saw my experiences and feelings from that time (and occasionally at present) in these pages exploring social anxiety, social battery recharges, and cozyness. There are many books and cups of tea in this collection as well. It's a collection of standalone comics, but quite a few of them string together to tell a cohesive and satisfying story. #Nonfiction #SocialAnxiety #Comics

I liked this... I saw myself in a lot of these comics. Especially the realization as an adult that there‘s nothing “wrong” with me, I‘m just an introvert (that can operate as an extrovert for short periods of time) and the exhaustion from that is normal. #bookspinbingo #doublespin #wintergames2020 #teamreadnosedreindeer 16pts

It is okay to be an introvert, and it is okay to be an extrovert. And sometimes you need friends or partners who are the opposite to join you :)

Wonderful book!

So many moments where I nodded my head because Debbie Tung gets it/me, or I get her.

My daughter was looking over my shoulder all the time I was reading this on my phone. She didn't understand all of it, but it got us talking about introverts and extroverts and that some people need solitude to recharge.

We need to get this book along with Quiet by Susan Cain into the hands of those who really need them. The Extroverts! A little understanding would be nice. Would it be tacky if I left them on my manager's desk?

LoverofLit I finished up Quiet a week or so ago and really enjoyed it. I've already recommended it to a handful of people and made my extrovert husband listen to some of it with me! 5y
KathyWheeler Agreed! While I loved both books, I really feel that it‘s my extroverted friends and acquaintances who need to read these books more than I did. That said, Quiet gave me some insight into a coworker who appears to be an extrovert but actually is not. (edited) 5y

Introverts Assemble!
(figuratively, of course. Who would want to abandon hard-won solitude for what would likely be an awkward and mostly silent assembly?! But it‘s nice to know we‘re out there, supporting each other, from a comfortable distance.)

For introverts and the extroverts who love ‘em. Highly relatable, fun graphics.

Recommended to those who enjoy Sarah Andersen‘s graphic novels.
