Tagging #BookedInTime but open to all.
⚠️ This book is dark and detailed as it describes a voyage on a coffin ship during “An Gorta Mor”, the Irish famine. There are mysteries and many moral conflicts. Who‘s in?

#12booksofchristmas @Andrew65 I knew I would love this May choice and it had been sat on my shelf for a while until a booked2022 prompt made me pick it up and what a joy. This maritime adventure is set in the height of the Irish potato famine. A well told multi character story which had me turning the page and absorbing every word.

What a brilliantly told story of the experience of people escaping the potato famine to the promised land. Told by a reporter present on the ship this is a finely woven mystery that tells of a murder, the killer, and conditions in Ireland at the time. The interconnected lives add to the tension + it is dickensian in telling esp with hid cameo. A joy to read .
Absolutely a pick, set on a coffin ship outta Ireland.. cool cast of characters, well paced.. historical illustrations and quotes interspersed. This is a ripper 🙂
Pius Mulvey was mindful of the terrible task he had to perform the whole journey.

This is my all time favorite book. It is breathtakingly good. It has been made into a wonderful stage play by a theater group in Galway but has not got the #movieortvshow treatment as far as I know. #bibliomaynia I have three copies in my house in case I convince someone to read it. Yep, that good!
An engrossing read, encompassing everything about human relationships. Pius Mulvey - what a character. So many metaphors between the ship and Ireland at the time.
Thankyou @Balibee146 for the tag 👍🏻♥️ #FriYaYintro
1. Tagged book ... page turner that got me back into reading. Also Faceless Killers by Henning Mankell... got me back into reading another time
2. I do ! If I‘m last one out of it ( which isn‘t very often ... but I go back & make it anyway 🙄
3. Hot is definitely better .... but I can do cold in a push
4. Size 6 in my country 🇮🇪
5. I tag all who havnt played yet & will comment 👍🏻👍🏻
This was excellent! It is captivating and has surprising twists and turns. Both poignant and at the same time a nail biter.
#MarchIntoThe70s #ImmigrantSong first book that comes to mind is this one by Joseph O‘Conner .... set in 1847 The Star of the Sea is a famine ship heading from Ireland to New York ... brilliant characters & great murder story too ... I found it unputdownable 👍🏻💚
Just started this. I am 50 pages in and loving it.
#QuotsyJan18 #Macabre @TK-421 I read this book back when I wasn‘t really reading. Went into Waterstones & asked for a book that would be a page turner. Well, it really was just that. Pius Mulvey is sometimes a macabre character- I don‘t have the book to quote - but he came to mind for this prompt. Loved this book. But it took another few years before I became a constant reader again. Litsy is making sure I will continue to be one 🙏🙏🙏
Amongst those so poor that they deserve no shame, shame lasts longer than life. Humiliation their only inheritance, and denial the coinage in which it is paid.
