Huntress | Kate Quinn
One of Marie Claire's Best Women's Fiction of the year! One of Bookbub's biggest books of the year"If you enjoyed "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," read "The Huntress," by Kate Quinn." The Washington PostFrom the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, THE ALICE NETWORK, comes another fascinating historical novel about a battle-haunted English journalist and a Russian female bomber pilot who join forces to track the Huntress, a Nazi war criminal gone to ground in America. In the aftermath of war, the hunter becomes the hunted...Bold and fearless, Nina Markova always dreamed of flying. When the Nazis attack the Soviet Union, she risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment wreaking havoc on the invading Germans. When she is stranded behind enemy lines, Nina becomes the prey of a lethal Nazi murderess known as the Huntress, and only Nina's bravery and cunning will keep her alive.Transformed by the horrors he witnessed from Omaha Beach to the Nuremberg Trials, British war correspondent Ian Graham has become a Nazi hunter. Yet one target eludes him: a vicious predator known as the Huntress. To find her, the fierce, disciplined investigator joins forces with the only witness to escape the Huntress alive: the brazen, cocksure Nina. But a shared secret could derail their mission unless Ian and Nina force themselves to confront it.Growing up in post-war Boston, seventeen-year-old Jordan McBride is determined to become a photographer. When her long-widowed father unexpectedly comes homes with a new fiance, Jordan is thrilled. But there is something disconcerting about the soft-spoken German widow. Certain that danger is lurking, Jordan begins to delve into her new stepmother's past--only to discover that there are mysteries buried deep in her family . . . secrets that may threaten all Jordan holds dear.In this immersive, heart-wrenching story, Kate Quinn illuminates the consequences of war on individual lives, and the price we pay to seek justice and truth.

Couldn‘t put it down! This was the only Quinn I hadn‘t read for some reason, and it was just as perfect as her other 20th c. heroine stories. Brilliantly complex characters and satisfying moral clarity. Beautiful use of switching timelines and perspectives, to a cinematic effect. Her writing is like honey—a smooth and delicious read.

Riveting reading. It‘s interesting because, pretty early on, you can figure out where this is ultimately going, but how it gets to the conclusion is fascinating. I loved these characters so much that I hated to see the book end. I wanted to know how things worked out. As with other books by this author, there‘s a basis in fact, and the author‘s notes are a must read. Definitely recommend.

Not exactly what you think of as a beach read, but it‘s what I brought along. I don‘t actually read on the beach; most of my reading is done on the balcony of the condo we‘ve rented in one of my favorite places, Sanibel Island. The island is still recovering from the devastating hurricane two years ago, so we feel lucky to have found a place. Best news is that the marvelous Gene‘s Books is being rebuilt! Not open yet, but next visit…

#ReadAway2024

My second book from @Itchyfeetreader ‘s #AuldLangSpine list. While it‘s been on my TBR for a while now, this was my push to finally get to it! I started the audiobook last month but at 19 hours, it‘s taken me a bit to work through it. I got down to the final hour while running errands & I had to come home & finish it up to find out what happened.🫣What a ride! Quinn writes great characters & thrilling WWII stories & this book is ⬇️

DebinHawaii …told by 3 of them: a female Russian fighter pilot, a young American woman who longs to be a photographer & a British journalist, now a finder of Nazi war criminals. Their paths intersect while looking for The Huntress, a Nazi wartime assassin. The audiobook narration was excellent. Likely to be a top read of mine for 2024. 🩶 10mo

This book has three strong female characters. Nina was such a strong and determined woman, wanting to fly and, after the war, track down the huntress. And Jordan, so young, navigating through post-war world. The huntress herself was cunning and ruthless, but her backstory was never fully explained. I enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the time period and especially the storyline about the female night bomber regiment.

Exactly my kind of historical fiction. Rich plot, well drawn characters and things I didn‘t know. In this case both how tough it was to track down many who committed war crimes and also more about the fascinating women only pilot squadrons in Russia. You always know where this is going to end but the journey to get there has me begging for five more minutes reading last night like I was 7 again.

Three people work together to bring a Nazi to justice- Nina who once flew with the Russian Night Witches, Ian who left his career in journalism to hunt Nazis, and Jordan an American teenager with a new stepmother and dreams of a future bigger than only being a wife. They come from different places but for each of them this quest is very personal. Another great read by Quinn with such strong characters and a story that kept me glued to the pages.

The only Kate Quinn I hadn't read - so glad I finally grabbed it! I loved how all of these storylines interconnected, the surprise sapphic relationship, and the fact that Anneliese never got a moment on page to explain or try to justify her actions. Love that she was rendered as human, so we don't claim Nazis were a fluke, but we also don't redeem Nazis in this house! #historicalfiction

What an incredible story!!!
3 timelines told from 3 perspectives as post-war Nazi hunters search for the Huntress.
Ian is a British reporter who is spending the post-war years in Europe hunting war criminals.
Nina is a Siberian-born pilot whose only goal is to escape her past.
Jordan is a 17-year-old Bostonian who is trying to figure out her place in the world.
3 very different people pulled together by one woman.

This book was hard for me to put down! A storyline that spans over decades/ several characters, it evokes those integral human emotions that are highlighted during strife/warfare - love, acceptance, yearning for something better and making connections with those you love. Ian‘s storyline of losing his brother, Nina‘s fierceness & bold approach to life, Tony‘s suaveness that has a deeper layer, and Jordan, who inspired me to find my inner j bryde!

A little bit predictable. Well written and characters that are developed ok l, they could be a little more. The story is split between 1950s Boston and WWII Europe. A trio of Nazi Hunters are searching for a ruthless female murderer. There are also love stories. There are twists, they are a little predictable, and some action.
Recommend.

I had a hard time rating this. I loved the character of Nina, who was a member of the Russian “Night Witches” in WWII. I had never heard of them, but will definitely be reading more about them. The other characters were a bit stereotypical, which knocked the book down for me. Not a bad read, but I only kept reading it for the story of Nina and her role in the Night Witches. I‘m off now to read more about the Night Wiches!

Kate Quinn always manages to write something unique & magnificent. I was hooked from page one and, though I more or less understood where the ending would take me, couldn't put it down. Strong female protagonists are her strength, but all characters in The Huntress are rich & vibrant. The plot is executed fabulously in a multi POV style & focused a lot on post WWII. An intriguing read that I devoured over the course of just a couple of days.

Entertaining, but too Hollywood mainstream for me. Kate Quinn brings together all the ingredients to build a bestseller, leading to unrealistic characters (too good to be true), and to a manichean vision of history... Book recommendations: Hunting the Truth by Serge and Beate Klarsfeld / The Man with the Miraculous Hands by Joseph Kessel / Sulfuric Acid by Amélie Nothomb ;)

Kate Quinn is fast becoming a favorite author of mine. This was a gripping read about a band of Nazi hunters searching for "the Huntress" in the 1950s. The band consists of a former war reporter, an interpreter, and a former "night witch", one of the Soviet women pilots/navigators who fought on the front lines of the Eastern front.

It was less intense than The Alice Network or Rose Code, but still enthralling with great characters.
