Truth
Truth | Peter Temple
From the author of the highly acclaimed and prize-winning The Broken Shore comes another extraordinary achievement. Truth is about a man, a family, a city. It is about violence, murder, love, corruption, honour, deceit and truth. PETER TEMPLE moves into the territory of The Bonfire of the Vanities and J.M. Coetzee's Disgrace with a masterpiece of modern fiction. At the close of a long day, Inspector Stephen Villani stands in the bathroom of a luxury apartment high above the city. In the glass bath, a young woman lies dead, a panic button within reach. So begins Truth, the sequel to Peter Temple's bestselling masterpiece, The Broken Shore, winner of the Duncan Lawrie Dagger for Best Crime Novel. Villani's life is his work. It is his identity, his calling, his touchstone. But now, over a few sweltering summer days, as fires burn across the state and his superiors and colleagues scheme and jostle, he finds all the certainties of his life are crumbling. From the Hardcover edition.

This was pretty decent! It‘s hard to fool me, which is why no one likes to watch murder mysteries with me. This book had me spinning in circles. I couldn‘t trust my instincts, even when my instincts turned out to be right, I was STILL thinking I was chasing a red herring. This is 7th in the Harry Hole detective series, but that didn‘t affect the reading. July‘s #BookSpin #BarnesNobleChallenge About a Murder

This book was suspenseful, violent, and chilling (get it? get it? sorry, I couldn‘t help myself).

This was my first Jo Nesbø novel and I found it quite compelling. It was well-crafted with lots of false leads that he tied up well at the end. It did feel a little too crafted at times, rather than unfolding in the seamless, organic way a good mystery sometimes will, but maybe that‘s just me reading too many mysteries and recognizing the tricks.

I've enjoyed all the Harry Hole stories so far. They're gritty and dark, and this one was probably the best so far. And the audio was really well done.

Bonus: it gave me my first #bookspin bingo for the month.

I was given the advice to read The Snowman as my first Jo Nesbo novel and if I liked it I could start the series at his third book as the first two apparently aren't any good. (More on that later)
This book follows a dectetive trying to solve what may or may not be a string of murders. It is scary, intense and the story moves quickly with several twists I really didn't forsee. Needless to say, I started his first novel the next day.

Not usually into detective type reads, but this one seemed seasonally appropriate. I liked it. It was a little bit overly complicated, but entertaining nonetheless. ⛄

vivastory I really liked this one, & have never been able to look at a snowman the same way since. I also don't think the adaptation with Fassbender is too bad. ⛄ 4y

This is the best of the Harry Hole series (so far!). Fast-paced, with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing to the end. If you are looking to try Nordic crime fiction to see what its like, I recommend starting with this one- it can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the earlier books in the series!

Nothing says happy holidays like creepy snowmen and a hunt for a Norwegian serial killer. I listened to the audio so at first I didn't realize that some chapters were flashbacks, but it all made sense eventually. The main detective is a bit of a cliche, but the mystery itself was very enjoyable. The pacing was great and the climax was very well written. #WinterGames #HolidayRead #SlayBells @MidnightBookGirl @StayCurious @Clwojick

My first in the Harry Hole series and I quite enjoyed this!! I've already got the movie lined up to watch haha!
Was it completely a surprise? No. Did I fall for every moment of "oh no, please not that/her/him" etc. 100%
On the verge of ??? at least one good time (anyone who has read this knows what I'm talking about!). Anyway, pretty sure I'll continue reading in series which is kind of impressive as I'm not one to do series.

Turned out, the plot wasn‘t as complicated as I expected but it was still good to listen to it in as few sittings as possible.

I like the inspector and all his personal stuff: addiction and family ties. The more I came to know the personnel, the less the story felt plot-driven.

Nice to now know that the series consists of books that stand for their own so that I can read without taking care if it‘s the correct order.

Seems, this one will get very complicated.

• Many, many characters that here and there do have similar names. (Or is it just me who thinks that because I am unfamiliar with Scandinavian names and languages❓🤔)

• Different time levels – if I‘m not completely wrong, I identified two or three of them.

So I decided to listen to this audiobook as much as I can to not lose the thread. Seems, the „Tapirtier“ has to wait a bit.
