Participating in #draculadaily this year! It pairs well with my epistolary theme! I purchased this book in person for CHEAP from my beloved now closed book outlet. 😭😭
Call me intrigued. I‘ve never read Dracula before so I‘m going to give this a whirl. Hope I can keep up with it. So far I‘m enjoying the emails.
Oh hey! I guess I‘m joining the group of littens who are participating in #DraculaDaily. It was a last minute decision to sign up for Mark Kirkland‘s email when I saw @BookmarkTavern admirable Drac stack. 🧛🏻♂️
Two weeks until Dracula Daily starts!
Last year I kept up for about two months, not sure if I can do better this year…

Recent acquisitions:
📖 Dracula by Bram Stoker (Case Studies in Contemporary Criticism), edited by John Paul Riquelme
📖 The Forestwife by Theresa Tomlinson
📖 The Anglo-Saxon Age (A Very Short Introduction) by John Blair

Told in a series of diary entries, letters, newspaper articles, letters, and telegrams, we follow John and Mina Harker, Lucy Westenra, Dr. Seward, and Professor Van Helsing as they investigate strange happenings, Lucy‘s mysterious illness and eventual death, and folklore while trying to stop the dangerous newcomer, Count Dracula.
I am very happy I finally read Dracula, as it was the only book I read in October that I loved that I hadn't read already. We shall see what happens in November and December. #2023ReadingBracket
3✨ I read this with a pretty busy mind so I‘ll want to do a reread in the future. I enjoyed the writing and how it started out. There was a lot of narrative instead of dialogue which made it harder for me at this moment in my life to stay focused. I liked how it was written and would have likely enjoyed it more if I gave myself more time or was not as busy while I read it. #Scarathlon #BatBrigade @Catsandbooks (I audio and physically read)
A classic I have put off for far too long! The middle was meh, but the beginning and the end?! Solid 4 stars from me!
Sorry #BatBrigade I got back to work Monday and as I thought I came back to a huge mess and a ton to still grade (my team did the best they could while I was gone). Plus grades are due tomorrow. #MaternityLeave #TeacherProblems I‘ll t try to get back to it soon. 🥲
#HalloweenPoetryMatters #Day17 #Vampire One of my favourite quotes from the first Vampire, Count Dracula. #Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub 6pts
Always a creepy read. The graphics add to the story. A great choice for #Scarathlon #TeamCryptKeepers @LiseWorks 4*
I'm watching the 1979 version of Dracula... of which I've never seen. Very true to the original story, which I find makes it more enjoyable.
#Scarathlon #TeamCryptKeepers @LiseWorks @Clwojick @StayCurious
I highly encourage you to read this book if you‘ve been putting it off!
I avoided this book (and all the movies) because I‘m not a fan of horror. MISTAKE!
This is an amazing book. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I now have a much better perspective of the all the more contemporary versions of these characters of Dracula, Renfield, and Van Helsing. Wish I had read this years ago.
This audible version with the multiple narrators is perfect for the epistolary style.
When I think of coffins, my mind just goes to my favourite literary and pop culture coffin dwellers

Day 6: #shadow. Well Dracula hides in the shadows ready to attack his prey. This is the graphic novel version. It's pretty creepy. @LiseWorks
Time to do some annotating and catch up on my book journal!!!!
it is a strange world, a sad world, a world full of miseries, and woes, and troubles. And yet when King Laugh come, he make them all dance to the tune he play. Bleeding hearts, and dry bones of the churchyard, and tears that burn as they fall, all dance together to the music they he make with that smileless mouth of him.
So for my birthday this year, my mom surprised me with two minutes in Barnes & Noble‘s. Truthfully, I could‘ve done a lot more damage; however, I took my time in choosing most of the books. Here‘s what I got.
Ah, yes, the #1 song of my senior year in high school (1983). We all thought it was romantic and didn't realize at the time it was also one of the best stalker songs ever written. #yeahwewerethatstupid
With that in mind, I chose DRACULA as a stalker of 🩸.

My number one #ReadDuringAStorm book. Undoubtedly because of the massive storm the first time I read it mirroring the weather in the book. #MayMontage @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
I was interested in reading the book because I wanted to see where our modern conceptions of vampires came from, & that aspect of the novel was definitely interesting. But, that was just about the only part of the book that I enjoyed. The pace was mind-numbingly slow, & the plot was relatively uneventful. Stoker could have gone in so many interesting directions, but instead he had endless pages of droning on about unimportant details.

Well Dracula is finally a wrap!! I spontaneously signed up for the #DraculaDaily emails back in May, but also bought a physical copy because I just don't like reading on screens very much. Plus, I obviously need as many Penguins Classics as possible!! At any rate, I did enjoy this one, but I think I did it a disservice by reading it across such a long period of time when I had never read it before. During times in the story where a chunk of time⬇️
Last year I read and loved Frankenstein for the first time so this year I settled into Dracula, and I loved it, too - the writing is gorgeous. I started this weeks ago and read a couple chapters at a time until the final stretch- a good approach for me. I was surprised that Dracula was the subject but not the main character of the story. But Lucy, Mina and the men who fought for her honor were great characters.
Oct #DoubleSpin
This book contains racism against the Slavic, the Baltic, and people of color, it is offensive to them. I am protesting this book, and I‘m reading Craven Manor for my Halloween book now.
My October read this year is the original vampire. After finally reading this I am astonished how well it has held up. It was creepy, scary and exciting and while Dracula may not be my favorite vampire he is definitely pretty great in this.

Just a reminder for Amazon prime members, Dracula as ebook is always free. Great timing for #scarathlon

The audiobook is also free for Audible members and it has an awesome cast
Didn't quite make the 20 hours but definitely read more than 20 chapters. Also finished two books. Great start to #Scarathlon and more points for #TeamSlaughter
@Clwojick @Andrew65
I decided that this classic will be my halloween book for the year
Day 2 of #SinisterArt
I am using the tagged book for Rick Beerhorst's painting, as my first encounter with his work was via a post for a Dracula related podcast. Beerhorst has completed a series of similar portraits. Several of which are featured at the following LitHub article:

Well that was creepy. The graphics in this are so well done. So detailed and haunting. I have always enjoyed this story but first time reading it like this and I enjoyed it. 15pts for #TeamSlaughter and book 2 read for #20in4
#Scarathlon @Clwojick @Andrew65
I‘ve started rereading this (for the umpteenth time), but this time I‘ve decided to listen to it. I want to compare it while I‘m reading the Swedish edition*, which is double the length so I can pick up the differences in real time. The Swedish edition is a chunkster, so I‘m hoping this will be enough of a head start to finish for #scarathlon. #teamslaughter #chunksterchallenge2022 @Clwojick @Amiable
Who knew there was a Spanish version of Dracula? This is fascinating!

I think I didn‘t read a lot of books with title D, so putting this up. I enjoyed this classic horror. Glad to have read the original text which many vampire fictions and movies owe much to it.
I had started Dracula forever ago for an undergrad class, but chose to leave it unfinished as readings were piling up. This time, instead of reading my physical copy, I listened to the audiobook. And I finally finished it. It‘s a good story. Different from what you‘d expect from pop culture representations of Dracula (or even Van Helsing). The Audible-exclusive audiobook has multiple narrators, including Tim Curry!
No better way to start a Sunday :)
Only a third of the way through and I love this book, I can't believe it has taken me this long to read it.
Hope everybody's having a great day! 👍
