Amazing fantasy world, truly imaginative story and likeable characters.

Audio. Wow. This book went hard. I enjoyed this more than the second one. Felt a bit repetitive; hoping Amari would learn to work as a team. It‘s slow going growth, but still growth. This book really showed the war between magicians and magical world took on a new level. Many times I felt my jaw drop from being surprised at what I just heard. Mainly for how insanely dark it got during the second half.
I adore Amari and all her friends ❤️❤️❤️ This was another great installment in the series and I love that we are getting two more books📚📚
🪄Let's share favorite magical characters for #middlegrademonday
Thirteen year old Amari is a favorite of mine from recent years. She is first exposed to the magical world when her older brother (her hero) goes missing. In her quest to save him, she encounters many challenges that offer positive messages to the readers! The third (final?) installment is due out this year!

First buddy-read with my kiddo in awhile, first since middle school for sure. I think I enjoyed her excitement more than my own. I picked up on some foreshadowing she didn't so watching her get upset with characters and/or disagreeing with their actions was superior to my own read.
The wait is over! You can find the magic school of your choosing with these middle grade fantasy novels set at magical schools.

I had several books with Night in the title and I will no doubt read them all at some point but this one was my choice. I also went outside for this and I was quite cold. The sacrifices I make for this team… #scarathlon2023 #scarathlon #mischiefandmayhem #scarathlonphotochallenge day 12: night
Fantastic start to a series! I loved every minute of Amari‘s journey into this supernatural world to find her brother. I honestly did not see the reveal at the end coming. Im so excited to start the next book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ventured into the children‘s section for this because my cousins loved it, and so did I! I guess another trope I like is “magic kids going to magic school/camp.” Amari uncovers a whole new reality when she receives a message from her missing brother. The supernatural world is real, she‘s a magician, and magicians are illegal. Prejudice is nothing new to Amari, but she has to fight a whole lot of it in order to be accepted and find her brother.
A much-belated review of this #AuldLangSpine pick from @Karisimo ! This was a delight. The Harry Potter vibes were strong here, if Hogwarts were a summer program in the US, with better diversity. I loved getting to know Amari as she navigated a newly-discovered magical world, discovered new friends and enemies, and worked to uncover the truth behind her brother‘s disappearance. I‘m looking forward to the next installment! #SeriesLove2023
1. Biology or English
2. Taking the chance to review this sweet little middle grade magic school book! Lots of HP callbacks in it with some fun twists, and the main character was fun and believable.

A fantastic debut about Amari, a clever, Black girl from the Projects who fails to follow in the hallowed footsteps of her elder brother at the elite private school she attends by scholarship. When that brother disappears, the police assume he has gone the way of most Black youths in their neighbourhood but Amari knows otherwise. And one night she receives a ‘Waking Dream‘ from Quentin which introduces her to the supernatural world.
Amari gets an unexpected nomination to participate in a summer program at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, the same secret organization she learns her older brother was a part of before he mysteriously disappeared. There she learns she has undiscovered powers and continues to face people that think she doesn‘t belong because of her background and abilities. This is an action packed beginning to the series.

“‘Welcome to the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs.‘
An enormous hall greets us, and I gasp – it‘s filled with all kinds of strange sights. A flock of fairies twinkles past like floating Christmas lights (…). Witches zip by overhead on brooms (…). What in the world have I gotten myself into?”

Picked this one up after hearing some good things - wanted to check it out before possibly getting it for my niece for Christmas. So glad I did because I loved it! Fantastic world-building, fun plot, and characters that feel like they could step right off the page. I definitely need to get my hands on the next book.
This book was awesome. Best middle grade fantasy I‘ve read. I was into every twist and turn (though not so much the illustrations) and totally did not expect all of the plot twist at the end. 5🌟

The #letterA was from yesterdat but I decided to join this challenge a bit later! 😅
The letter A reminds me of my most recent finished book Amari and the Night Brothers from B. B Alston.
I made this drawing of a passage from the book Amari and the Night Brothers from B. B. Alston. I loved the passage in which Agent Fiona empowers Amari. It really feels like a switch in the mindset of the main character. 🥺🙈
I just finished bingeing this book. I wasn't sure if I would like it because of Amari telling the story from her perspective but after a while it felt natural to connect to the story in that way.
Near the end of the book, I felt like a lot was still to happen. The story had a nice pace and took me by the hand but I felt like the ending could have been longer to deepen the ending.
Still, I loved this book and its semi open ending.
Would recommend!
I didn‘t love this book. Heard about it from The Currently Reading podcast. I don‘t read a lot of middle grade so I wanted to give this a try. Borrowed the digital copy from my library.
Amari just wants to find her brother. She‘s willing to do whatever it takes to find him and is tired of being underestimated by the people around her. A fun supernatural romp full of magicians, fairies, aliens, and other supernatural creatures.
I‘d bought this for my cousin‘s daughter last Christmas and decided to give it read myself. It is really good!
Amari‘s brother Quentin is missing and she just got expelled from school. A new summer “leadership” program provides an entry to a surprising supernatural world. Amari must find her place in it.
It‘s a middle grade book - probably a little too advanced for an 8 yr old? 🤷🏾♀️ But it‘s still a good read-aloud story.
@Amandajoy You and C made his day! He was soooo ecstatic about this late #BlitsySwap arrival! He was walking around like the cat who caught the canary, saying, “This ball is so sick!” It‘s absolutely perfect. Thanks so much for your thoughtful and generous gift!
What a book. Def agree with it feeling of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. Amari only wants to find her missing brother. I really liked the trials the bureau puts the special agent trainees into. Amari was very creative. Also made a good point about where she came from. The final twists had me going. This was a hard book to put down at any point. It just kept going.
@Amandajoy He‘s been begging to open his #BlitsySwap package non-stop since yesterday & within 5 minutes of opening everything asked if he can do the swap again next year! He loved everything but the hands-down winner was the Lego book light. He uses them all the time and we can never have enough around the house. Looking forward to reading the books together. I loved Amari and can‘t wait for him to read it too! BTW, C did a great wrapping job!!
Still on my TBR and now on yours too!
Best Middle Grade novel for #LitsyAwards2021. Make sure to get your copy for #MiddleGradeMarch and get ready for the sequel out this spring/summer.
This was a wonderful middle grade fantasy adventure. I do not read much MG, but I saw this on a lot of favorite lists and decided to check it out. Amari‘s brother has disappeared, and in her search to find him she discovers magic in the world. 5⭐️

Today‘s spontaneous #bookhaul - top row is kiddo‘s, bottom row is mine. Annoyingly, my BN member discount didn‘t apply to the 50% books (I shouldn‘t quibble, I know, but that‘s why I renewed the damn thing today). Luckily my educator card goes for the rest, and as a homeschooler I consider all reading educational.
Harry Potter meets Men in Black in this middle grade science fantasy starring a girl whose search for her missing all-star older brother lands her in training as a junior agent in the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs, where she must discover much about herself, her abilities, and the magical world in order to uncover what happened to her brother. I enjoyed this but it didn‘t blow me away—I think I just don‘t care for the special agent stuff 😬
Finished this after school while cuddling with this needy boy...
What a fun story!! I saw the big plot twist coming from a mile away, but it was still an exciting journey to get there. I've got some specific students in mind who I think will really enjoy this one!

Listening to this middle grade while getting some boring things done at work today - it's making the day fly by!
I really liked this one and cannot wait for the next book (coming Feb 2022)!

Do you ever feel guilty for reading? I think this is why I‘ve been such a slow reader for years now. I used to devour books, but anymore, I feel guilty. I know I should be studying, or cleaning, or doing something productive, but I really want to just read this book (so good!). My husband told me to take advantage (no homework) and do some reading. Love that man 🥰 (sorry… I was just curious if anyone else ever felt that way)
I just started this and I can already tell I‘m going to love it! And that cover 😍💙
I bought a copy of this book earlier in the week because it is one of my favorite middle grade reads of the year, plus we're reading next month it for the tween/teen book club I run at the library and I wanted my own copy to take notes for our discussion! Look at the wonderful surprise under the dust jacket! 😍 All those pretty stars! ☄
I LOVED this book. It felt very Harry Potter…almost like I was reading Harry Potter for the first time all over again! Swooning over this book!
Finally got to finishing up this book! Really enjoyed it and look forward to the sequel coming out! Loved the world building
A great book 😊 4.25/5 Read for the August #Buzzwordathon - Time of Day
I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 212.
