Bought in Salem last weekend to meet a book about magic prompt for peak witchiness. This is on the surface a light and frothy cozy tale of a magical competition in a Salem-esque town in Illinois. Dig a little deeper and there is a some great female friendships, a lovely lgbtq romance and an interesting story about how and where you might belong

Hello #hauntedshelf participants! I've had a couple questions from my team asking if there will be team buddy reads. We aren't doing set team books per team but I thought I'd host a little buddy read readathon. Reading any book from the Witches of Thistle Grove series will count as its own readathon for the challenge - they're gorgeous witchy romances with gorgeous worldbuilding and diverse genders and sexualities!

I really couldn‘t get invested in the characters and storyline. It kept me entertained enough to keep listening while driving but it wasn‘t my cup of tea.

Absolutely adored this romance. A witch travels home after being gone a long time intending to avoid the man who broke her heart…only to join forces with some other wronged women. Love AND vengeance? Sign me up! Also enjoyed the witch tournament as a bonus.

Emmy returns to her hometown after a decade of self-imposed exile, just in time to preside over the traditional spellcasting tournament her family arbitrates. And join up with her bestie, Lin, and town bad girl, Talia, to get a little revenge on Gareth, the magical golden boy who broke her heart in high school.

I loved the characters, the story, the world. Emmy, Lin, and Talia make the perfect trio serving up witchy-woman karma, sticking it to the capitalist patriarchal Blackmoore family! A fantastic story about the importance of family, heritage, and the roots of community. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

“John Tucker Must Die” with a witchy flair! It had a cozy autumnal atmosphere, but I found the plot and characters a bit lacking. I liked the magical tournament and wish there had been more of it. 🎧

Loved this one!! Some HP and the Goblet of Fire vibes with a witchy competition, cute sapphic romance and a lovely little town.

These lyrics from Katy Perry‘s #DarkHorse make me think of The Witches of Thistle Grove series where playing with magic tends to get the main character & their love interest & often the town in trouble. There are lots of unlikely pairings & “dark horse” couples in it too. 🖤

Well, this was a pleasant surprise. Can't wait to read the other characters in Thistle Grove.

Formulaic, but highly enjoyable. Neat world building.

This is the first in a series of magical small town romance books. The romance fits alongside the plot of the book, the romance isn't the plot and the plot didn't feel secondary to the romance.

It's a great witchy romance for people that don't like traditional romance books.

Today was the very last farmer's market of the season! 🎃🍁🍂 Well, at least for me! Technically next Saturday is the last one, but I'm working next weekend so I made sure to go today and enjoy every minute! I got cider, apple cider donuts, honey, and croissants! I even got to read a little by the jack-o-lantern display! 🎃📚💕

I had a library event tonight where I got to lead patrons around town reading The Raven, by Poe! 🖤💜🖤💜 Of course I had to wear my dragon witch Halloween costume! 😄💕 I recently started the tagged book, and so far it's really good!

Another light fun fall / Halloween read! Sapphic, witchy competitions, vengeance alliance. If you don‘t like modern pop culture references in books, not for you. This is part of a series I believe but am not sure how it all relates so check that out if that matters to you too.

This was cute and witchy and delightfully queer. I‘ve read a few witchy books recently for #scarathlon2022 but the sapphic element was really nice and the romance was very nice. I think compared to ex hex and very secret society, I liked the worldbuilding and writing less but the romance more. Worth reading for sure!

A fun witchy LBGTQ rom-com where 3 witches plot revenge on the jerky son of the most powerful family in town (who dumped each of them) by banding together to make sure he doesn‘t win the town magic competition & the power it brings. In all the plotting, two of them start a romance.

Read for #TeamMonsterMash it is set right before Halloween/Samhain & had 575 words from the #ScarathlonWordSearch so gave me some good points! ⬇️

This is a small town paranormal book with a romance. The setting and characters felt authentic and I really enjoyed learning about the town and it's history.

The romance was well done, it didn't feel forced at all. The miscommunications were talked about and resolved which I love. Looking forward to the rest of the series

This is a fun fantasy-romance/contemporary/witchy/LGBTQ+ book, and an excellent pick for #LMPBC. ❤️

Lighthearted and fast-paced with a pretty cool magic system and snarky main characters. It‘s apparently first in a series, but totally works as a standalone, which I love. I really enjoyed this!

I‘m full into fall mode. I wanted to watch Nightmare Before Christmas last night but was told I couldn‘t. 🤣

So I‘m totally reading all the witchy books! This one was okay. Emmy goes back to her hometown with witchy magic, witchy stores that I would totally want to go to, revenge and a magical tournament.

Picked this one up recently in anticipation of spooky season starting soon! It looks super cute and I've heard great things about it! 🎃💕📚

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved the autumn atmosphere Lana Harper depicted in this book! Very good storyline as well as fun characters, it filled my spirit with all kinds of good witchy vibes!

Honestly this book is so cozy and exactly what I‘m looking for right now. Definitely in my fall vibes super early this year🍂✨

Considering the revenge plot, this was charmingly cute. Not quite a snuggly blanket of a book, but maybe a toasted marshmallow over a campfire kind of book. With a shot of vodka for solidarity.

I‘m sorry to say that this was quite a disappointment for me... The writing was too “casual” with too much profanity for my liking. I practically had to force myself to finish it, which is why it took me so long to finish. I suppose the storyline was good, but wasn‘t executed in a manner which I would enjoy. Others might have enjoyed it, but it just isn‘t my cup of tea. 😔

Lighthearted magical lgbtq+ romance book with a scorned lovers revenge plot set against a magical contest.

I really loved this! The romance was hot, the magic was cool, and I love a plot based around revenge. Can't wait for book 2! Definitely recommending this one (especially if you're joining us for (#Swoonathon).

I was determined to finish this in January and I did it with a day to spare! Probably won‘t be able to mail it until later this week for #LMPBC #GroupP but it IS fully read and marked.

Finished this month‘s #LMPBC pick for #Round13 #GroupP which was also my #BookSpin book this month.
Great pick! It took me a couple chapters to get into this, but once I did I couldn‘t put it down. It still has 2 readers to go, so I don‘t want to give anything away. I‘ll get it in the mail later this week.

Straight to the top books of 2021! This had all the elements of an awesome read. Magic, quiltbang (not in a coming out or facing bigotry kinda way), steamy romance, competition, revenge, big city girl comes back to small town, family, friendships, healing from trauma… ugh. So good. I listened super fast bc I got a skip-the-line copy from the library, but I‘m keeping my hold and am looking forward to revisiting this story next year!

Enjoyable writings, distinct modern characters and funny dialogues, but Emmy gives so much power to the idiot Gareth... Nevertheless, nice and vivid story of witchcraft. Delightful autumnal read!
