pickI‘ve seen mixed reviews for this. I actually liked it. I thought the story was decent, it kept me interested, and it was pretty fast paced so it ended up being a quick read for me.

pickA group of teenagers are working in a short film and this will be part of the project for Alex to enter to college. There is a possibility to travel to Romania to make the film and a fundraising is open to help with film costs. In Romania various murders occurred and everything is confused. Which parts are related with the real world which parts are related with the film? Surprised, didn‘t expect those twits. ⬇️

Finished earlier in the week for #TeamMonsterMash I think it suffered as a section a day #buddyread & picked up at the end when I read it all at once. As some of the others, I had the big twist figured out & found most of the characters annoying so just a so-so for me.

Like some others, I guessed the twist about halfway through, and was great this morning to fly through the back 1/4 of the book, very enjoyable!

Before Alex can talk sense into him, they see the man in the mask. Jax of course takes off running and they get separated. When Alex finds Jax in a maze, he‘s being killed in a downright horrible scene. At this point I need to know what‘s happening…should I just finish?
#ScarathlonBuddyRead pg.212-220 - in the light of day the group decides that they need to split up - mainly because Reagan refuses to travel out to the road. So Alex and Jax head out to find cell signal and the road and Hazel, Reagan, and the seemingly delicate Kenna stay behind to find the computer or phone those strange cables are linked to. It‘s not a great plan. I think they should get out of dodge. But this is a horror story after all.

It‘s pretty clear someone has come to Prahova to kill off the kids 1 by 1…or is it one of them? Are they being hunted or stalked by one of their own? They find Carter‘s grewsome decapitated body, Maddie is dead and the others are starting to get suspicious of each other. It‘s great!

On the way Jax notices that it looks as though the blood in the kitchen was staged. Someone is trying to scare them. Outside, Jax falls down the stairs and finds Maddie‘s body - so what happened? Did she fall and hit her head or did she meet with a more sinister end?

Turns out to be the man in the mask she thought she saw earlier and she catches him on video but he disappears. And so does Maddie. Alex goes after her but finds the kitchen flooded by the storm and a bunch of blood…things are starting to get good now. 🩸 ⛈

WTF Maddie?! Alex should have said something to her - how can she honestly think she‘s entitled to their film money for her own uses? But Alex is so passive she never says anything.

It was hard to pinpoint their ages for me. They were worried about having sex and making fun of them for not having sex, but then they were afraid to be out and about without an adult… I didn‘t expect the ending but I still had a bunch of questions.

Kenna is acting strange, Maddie is too, and Alex reflects on how Jax has all the power in their group and possibly their relationship. Reagan claims he is looking into the lost money but later we find out that he never messaged Go Fund Me. So many questions…although I have my theories on how things are going to go.
so-soI think I‘m a so-so because this wasn‘t what I expected. I don‘t want to spoil anything, but if I would briefly summarize this I would say Teen Slasher. There are fun moments and it was a fast read. 3⭐️

Lots of statues of Vlad and dark artwork and swords hanging on walls, and hanging chandeliers and electricity that may not last through the upcoming storm. Jax and Alex are starting to light their own fire when they are interrupted by a scream. Finally, something is happening.
Well, this is the best I have ever done - I just hope I can keep it up. I have amassed 4,003 points this week for #TeamMonsterMash #Scarathlon2022. #ScarathlonBuddyRead pg 101-111: the kids arrive at the castle and are surprised by the state it‘s in. Crumbling around them in some spots and modern in others - interesting how Bloom was strategic with the photos she showed them so that she could get them there. A storm is brewing and the creepy caretaker leaves them on their own. Things should start getting spooky now.
pickMy only cons are that the action sequences feel a bit labored & drawn out; the action gets lost in the over saturated details of the location. And, there were still some questions I had at the end; everything seems too quickly wrapped up. I also wished that the characters were more developed; some just seemed to be there to keep numbers equal. But overall, a really fun read.

They find out they‘ll be with her creepy cousin, and someone stole all their Go Fund Me money. Kenna in particular is upset by this - which is strange. I think it was Catrinel tbh. Rehabs don‘t pay for themselves. The kids decide to go to the castle anyway - great idea!

Finally things seem to be looking up - especially when their fundraiser really starts working too. But when you‘re up, the fall down tends to be worse.

They all have their own interests at heart but it‘s still nice that they are willing to do something that will directly help Alex. And Reagan - well, he likes Alex as more than a friend it seems, so he‘s hoping she will finally see him. Still, they have a plan. Let‘s see how it plays out.

So unfair - but the cynical part of me knows this is the way of the world. She runs into Catrinel Bloom again (the Romanian actress that will I‘m sure play a part in what happens next) who basically tells her it doesn‘t matter that she is talented, and Alex should get used to that. This book is depressing😕

A solid horror entry. It was a little slow in the beginning, but picked up once the reached Romania. It has a nice twist at the end. It's another good book for Word Search points.
