An exciting parcel to arrive home from work to!!! Just finished re-reading A Court of Thorns and Roses after reading it for the first time last summer and forgetting to buy the next books in the series. It was just as good this time around and I have very high hopes for book 2 (rumour has it it‘s the best one so we shall see) Anyone else read the series? What did you think? 😍😍😍 #currentlyreading #bookhaul #summerreading #acotar

LeeRHarry Not answering the questions you asked 😊 but I‘ve heard good things about The Party 😊 6y
hollymckie @LeeRHarry hahaha totally understandable! me too actually, every review i‘ve read/heard has always been positive so i‘m looking forward to starting it 😊 6y
Dragon Enjoyed the first three books haven‘t read the fourth, yet. 👍🐉 6y
hollymckie @Dragon heard mixed reviews about that one, hope you like it! 6y
Dragon Thanks @hollymckie me too. I have the book but I‘m waiting to read it for that very reason. 😀🐉 6y

Anyone here a blog reader?? I‘ve just started a book blog!!! Granted, it looks rather bare here, because when I say just started I really mean JUST. If you are interested in longer reviews and general ramblings then please please head to thewritingfinch.blogspot.co.uk (named after the one and only Atticus of course) #bookblog #bookworm #bookreview

rather_be_reading awesome! 6y
LiterRohde And I‘ve been toying with the idea of a blog as well - for years. I start one and then stop because I feel the pressure to come up with topics and fear no one else wants to read what I have to say. Maybe with book reviews, I won‘t have the pressure to come up with topics and my weird musings on life will fit into the reviews. We shall see. Read your first post and subscribed. Looking forward to more. Good luck on your new endeavor. (edited) 6y
hollymckie @LiterRohde I know exactly what you mean. There are so many blogs out there so why would what I have to say be any different...right? I think we need to think of it more as writing for ourselves, and enjoying the process. Readers will see you enjoying it, and your personality will shine through so much better than if you are writing what you think people want to read. Thanks so much! Would be happy to follow yours too if you take the plunge. 6y
KateFulfordAuthor Congratulations on diving into blogging, @hollymckie - I‘ve just spent a few minutes reading around it and I like it! 6y
hollymckie @KateFulfordAuthor thank you so much! i‘m so glad you like it, I‘ve been really enjoying it and so glad I took the plunge! Hope you stick around x 6y

Noughts and Crosses | Malorie Blackman
post image

It‘s been so long since I posted! I have a two week Easter break from university so I have come with my family to Spain for a relaxing fortnight of pure sun and reading — it literally doesn‘t get better than this. Noughts and Crosses has been in my TBR list for a long time and then I seen it reduced to 99p on the kindle store so finally giving it a shot. So far so good! Any other holiday reading recommendations? #holiday #currentlyreading

emilyhaldi No, I don‘t think it does get better than that! 🙌🏻 6y
CouronneDhiver Awesome! Totally jealous 6y
Simona No recommendations, I just want to say that I envy you .... enjoy 😘 6y
hollymckie @emilyhaldi @CouronneDhiver @Simona i mean, that is the whole point of going on holiday isn‘t it? to post photos and make other people jealous? 6y

I had one of the old versions of the Kindle that didn't have a touch screen and it was getting so slow, so my mum upgraded me to the Paperwhite for Christmas ☺️☺️ but I keep forgetting its touchscreen and having to find my place again when I skip too many pages...

Kaye You‘ll get used to it. The new models are very nice. I think I‘ve had one if each, from clear back when they made those first white ones with the keyboards. I like the newest version the best. 6y

Pickpick

The PRETTIEST cover ever. I have to say, this was a little too basic and 'young' for me, but I still have to rate it as a 'pick' because I know how much 14 year old me would have absolutely adored it. A perfect last minute Christmas present for your little sister, niece, cousin, or yourself!!

I have been pleasantly surprised by my sudden love for Oscar Wilde after reading The Importance of Being Earnest, the first work of his I have ever read. His wry wit and hilariously shallow characters make this a short but incredibly enjoyable read. Not normally a fan of reading plays but it was the perfect form to tell this story! #currentlyreading #university

bookloo Still one of the funniest reads ever for me. Glad you enjoyed it! 💞 6y
Dragon This is a fun play to read and to watch. I‘ve seen a couple of live versions and there‘s an old movie as well. 6y
hollymckie @bookloo I can't help but think of all the times my tutors at university have said how a text was meant to be humorous and I've never found it even remotely funny, but this actually did have me laughing! 6y
hollymckie @Dragon I'd love to see a live version of it now so I'll have to keep a lookout for performances in my area! 6y

This was AMAZING. You have to actually keep reminding yourself that this incredible woman is writing about her own life and real experiences. I've not long finished reading The Help, and this was like a far more graphic version. I can only be inspired by Harriet's unbelievable and unwavering courage to gain freedom for herself and her children. So glad this semester finally introduced me to a new favourite!! #currentlyreading #novemberreading

Can't stop googling literary inspired tattoos and this one seriously speaks to me. Oh Atticus, you old gem (haha, Jem, get it).

On a side note, TKAM is always what I say when I'm asked what my favourite book is and that results in an eye roll and a "really? an english lit student and that's the best you can do?" What's wrong with appreciating such a MASTERPIECE?!?!

What's your go-to answer for that question?

So apparently it has been 3 months since I last posted? Where did the time go?

October was a very slow and uninspired reading month for me. It meant reaching the halfway point of semester 1 of my third year at uni and motivation/confidence has been lacking all round tbh. Here's hoping November picks things up a bit!

For now though I might actually try read a book from my syllabus. This looks to be an interesting one!

The Help | Kathryn Stockett
post image

This felt too appropriate right now not to share. Miss Skeeter is searching the newspaper for job adverts and sees ones for pretty young salesgirls, secretaries that don't even type and finally, a junior stenographer at $1.25/hr, which she circles. Continue on to the male section and there is bank managers, accountants, and that same stenographer job for 50 cents more per hour. Will things ever change?

melbeautyandbooks It will change someday. At least that's what I keep hoping. 😊 7y

So apparently I inadvertently stuck to a colour theme when it came to my favourite books of July? Each of these were PRETTY different to the others, apart from maybe The Power which did have a bit of a Handmaid's Tale feel to it. Really enjoyed trying out some new authors this month.

One week post-vacation to Spain where I read 10 books in the 2 weeks I lay by the pool, and haven't read a page since. Maybe it's because I read so much while I was there, practically all day every day. Tell me, is it possible to read TOO much? Bought this little beauty today though (I do love a good literary pun) and it seemed to remind me what I'm missing and I just want to fill it with bookish thoughts, so I guess I need to get started again?

This ARC courtesy of Netgalley is a *little* bit full of stereotypes and clichés, but that kinda makes it perfect for my current setting, don't you think? Will give a full review when I finish. Expected release date is around October this year, I think. (SPOILER ALERT: His name isn't actually Bob. Which is good, because what writer would choose that for a young guy. No offence to the hot Bobs out there) #currentlyreading #perfectsummerread

Just started this and I'm only a few chapters in but it is already so gripping. It's told in short snippets from four main characters, switching between them at regular intervals to tell the story surrounding the suspicious death (ok, murder) of their fellow student in detention. They are all suspects, and the lies are slowly unravelling. I've heard this compared to Breakfast Club a lot too. Anyone read this? No spoilers please! #currentlyreading

So, I have to be honest, I have absolutely zero clue how to work Litsy. I'm on holiday in Spain and seen it mentioned in the magazine that I read on the plane on the way here. It seems like Goodreads, but with photos? Or like #bookstagram on Instagram (obviously)? Anyway, what better way to start than the first book I finished while I'm here. How did it take me so long to get round to reading this???? Every human needs it.

Soubhiville Welcome! Litsy is rather like a cross between Instagram and Goodreads. We are an ever growing and warm, friendly bookish community! Glad you're here! I'll tag a couple folks you might like to follow, who make a lot of posts and organize fun things like buddyreads, photo challenges, and postal book clubs. Then maybe they can tag a few too. 7y
