I believe the tagged book will be my last of the year. It was a great month. I enjoyed everything I read. Fav: Apples Never Fall. I read both my #BookSpin and #DoubleSpin!! No bingos this time.

Thank you for the tag @eggs

I have to believe things will get better.
Quiet , post vaccine days ... it‘s good to be over the side effects ... still tired .. but not so vulnerable to covid now. Let‘s hope this is the beginning of our way out of this ... Literary friends ❤️we have lots of books to read .. sending love out to this community of book lovers ..
I've been there. I still remember the girl in my first semester Arabic class who said "Even if I didn't already know you were from Iowa, I would have known from those pictures," after I did my presentation about my family. I stopped taking Arabic because the class was full of people like this and I didn't want to spend another three semesters with them. I still regret that I like condescending jerks be the reason I didn't lean a useful language.
Having an extremely lazy day! This book is entertaining ( a lot of feels in here), educating ( I would not be cut out for political life) and well written!!
Saturday breakfast, I didn‘t get any reading done 🤦🏻♀️ but I have listened to my audio book doing 100 errands
This is been on my TBR forever and when it was mentioned this morning on the radio by the librarian talking about some book suggestions, I went on line to order before she was done speaking 🤣 and it was available right away 🎉

(Took this picture in 2013. It‘s called Brickface Hope. At the time, it was in front of the State Land Office building, but was moved in 2015 to the Santa Fe River Park, both in Santa Fe, New Mexico)

There were elements of this book that I enjoyed but some of the characters, not so much. So whiny and entitled! If I hadn‘t been listening to it on audio cds from the library I suspect I would‘ve bailed.
“When a friendship ends, people don‘t always give it the same amount of thought that they do relationships.”
“When a friendship ends, people don‘t always give it the same amount of thought that they do relationships...friendships end in a different way - slowly & without declaration. Usually people don‘t notice until a friend has been gone for awhile and then they just say they grew apart or their lives became too different.”

Okay, this may not have been the most COMFORTABLE reading spot, but it made for a good picture! 😂😂😂 next time, I‘ll just sit on one of the benches over there. 👉🏻
Independence Day... I'm declaring independence from chores and committing today to a few of my favorite things: quiet, books, and my guitar.
This book was just ok. I felt it dragged too much in parts and could‘ve been cut down a bit. I did find the characters and their relationships - especially the marriages - felt real and had moments they were relatable. Overall, a bit fluffy and long-winded, unfortunately. 😕
These are just a few of favorite book covers for Day 4 of #readingresolutions - #coverlove ! I like them all separately for different reasons. The Italian Teacher and The Immortalists are colorful; The Hopefuls is effortlessly pretty; the arc of A Place For Us is elegant; and The #arc of When the Lights Go Out is PURPLE 💜 (and I own very few purple books)!! 💜 #TBR
Which cover is your favorite? Have you read any of these?
I enjoyed this but it was not what I expected. This book had been on my tbr since it came out but I considered taking it off recently due to the number of moderate to bad reviews I had seen. The main criticism I saw was that the “characters were unlikable”. I disagree. I saw a couple that was young and still figuring things out under a lot of stress and when people (or jobs) don‘t turn out the way you think they will. It was good, not great.

I was confused with the hashtags thing so sorry if I did it wrong
Congratulations to @Reviewsbylola ! ❤ So generous of her for hosting this giveaway!!
I would love to win and read the Dream Land and The Hopefuls (if not possible both, then only one)
💕💕💕
Loving this cover art. 💞

Have any of my fellow Littens read this book? Would you recommend? Please let me know. ☺️
Overall I really enjoyed this book. Her portrayal of DC is pretty spot on. Not quite everyone who works in government/politics is quite like that, but many are.
I decided to print out my bingo sheet for #TBRbingo so I could have a constant visual. I taped it inside my planner. My goal is to mark off at least two bingo squares per month. This month I managed three, so I'm pleased. Slowly but surely. 🐢
My program volunteer didn‘t show up today so I had to monitor upstairs but was able to finish my book. I loved this book. It‘s full of unlikeable characters but I think that‘s pretty appropriate for a book about DC! Jennifer Close always manages to write about people you actually know.
Love this. It‘s so true. Friendships end and can be just as sad and devastating as a romantic relationship but others don‘t give them the same weight.
I mean this whole page gives me stress flashbacks. But also it was fun.
I couldn't put this book down! An interesting look at what home is in a town and business where no one is from D.C. And doesn't stay long. Beth longs for a place to belong and believes she has found that with the Dillons. The closer she becomes to them though the further away she becomes from her husband.
I'm not sure why there is hate for this book (ahem, @emilyhaldi ). I loved it! The political aspect was fun and I thought the inclusion of Obama as a character was very interesting. I wish the author had included more scenes with Matt's family, because they really had me laughing! I thought this was an honest portrayal about how relationships can fall apart, and how those closest to us can suddenly feel like strangers.
I really enjoyed this book!!! It was an easy read with a witty narrator whom I found honest and refreshing. A story of marriage, friendship, ambitions and D.C. politics 😉Another square completed on my #TBRbingo 👍🏻Thanks for the gentle nudge @Reviewsbylola @KarenUK #impromptubuddyread #SatisfiedSaturday
My goal today is to not put on real pants. And to read as much as possible. We'll see how long I can keep this up. 😂😂
"I began to think of her as Texas Ash, sort of like Malibu Barbie - basically the same, but with a few tweaks and extra accessories." The snarkiness is ?‼️I'm on page 192 and still enjoying this light read with some sharp social commentary.
"I tried to imagine what our life would look like there, tried to see the good parts of D.C. But each time I left to return to New York, I was relieved. I'd get off at Penn Station, breathe in the smell of urine, popcorn, and dirt, and feel like I was coming home." ???Spoken like a true NewYorker!!!
It's #FriYayIntro time 1.#onceAnEightiesGirlAlwaysAnEightiesGirl 🎵and all those big hair bands {{swoon}} 2. Spring 🦋🌻🌷3. Contemporary Fiction but I try to mix it up with NF 4. Funny you should ask, I'm hosting friends tonight so it's a Moroccan fish appetizer with a lovely green salad, wine (duh) and lemon chicken, rice pilaf & garlic glazed string beans with caramelized almonds. My friend is bringing dessert😀5. Only 3?!? NP
When the prompt #YoungAmericans came up, I immediately thought of The Hopefuls. It follows two couples. The husbands met on the Obama campaign trail and take jobs in the new administration. Of course it's not that easy, right? 😉🇺🇸🇺🇸

Recently started the audiobook. Funny stuff & the narrator's voice is great so far. I hope the main character stops constantly badmouthing DC in comparison to Manhattan at some point, though! I've lived in both & they both have their strengths.
The first part of the book in Washington DC was enjoyable, light and funny. I loved reading about the Obama campaigns, the dinners, parties and balls. I thought the whole book was going to be about politics in DC. It was really about the marriages of Matt and Beth and Jimmy and Ashleigh and the couples" friendship so it became a downer. Still it held my interest and even though it was hard to like these people I wanted to see how they'd end up.
Hoping to finish this tonight. It has some of the most awful characters I've come across in recent memory and I almost gave up on it a couple of times because of that but I have also enjoyed the writing so I stuck with it. Happy to almost be done though! And I still love the cover.
