The Murder on the Links
The Murder on the Links: A Hercule Poirot Mystery | Agatha Christie
An urgent cry for help brings Hercule Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies facedown in a shallow grave on a golf course. But why is the dead man wearing an overcoat that is too big for him? And for whom was the impassioned love letter in the pocket? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse.

Listened to this today while I was leaf blowing. My least favorite part of fall. 😴😴 now

This mystery was good. I thought I knew who was part of it, but of course I shouldn‘t have. Christie is too good! Though I can‘t stand Hastings and definitely think he “falls in love” way to easily.

#agathachristieclubr2

PerksOfBeingABookworm Hastings is really so annoying. And petulant. I liked this book too. 2w
Scochrane26 I was trying to figure out how Hastings fell in love from one encounter. He wasn‘t great in this one. I did enjoy him more in the short stories of Poirot investigates when he got mad at Poirot & called him conceited a few times. 2w

Finished my first book for the #scarathlon #TeamSlaughter I enjoyed this overall but found Hasting a bit annoying and his sudden love interest meh but as usual I got the killer all wrong 😞 I found the different covers for this book interesting.

What a treat to discover a new-to-me, or at least a completely forgotten, Hercule Poirot case! I borrowed the audiobook from the library for a work trip and listened to the first 5 hours that way. It kept me alert during my drive! And then when I got home I picked it off the bookshelf and finished it. It was really good! I didn‘t see any of it coming! I love Agatha Christie. 💜💜💜

Another heart-stopping Agatha Christie classic. As usual I never saw the ending coming. It is easy to see from reading this book, why Agatha Christie is the Queen of Mystery. This one was definitely a fun read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚

This is my 5th Agatha Christie book in the last couple of years. This one was more complicated than I thought it would be, & I enjoyed the mystery. Poirot‘s rivalry with Giraud cracked me up. Thinking of joining in the #agathachristieclub.
This is book 5 during #summersendreadathon. Not sure how many more physical books I will get to because I have to actually be productive the rest of this week. I‘ll be able to do audiobooks though.

A wonderful cozy with more twists than a bolt of yarn. Second in the series. It builds slow, but it‘s worth the trip. The ending is fun and action-packed.

There‘s a Goodreads review of this that just reads: “Shut up, Hastings. Shut up, shut up, shut up.” Which pretty much sums up my feelings about Hastings in this book. If you can set aside Hastings‘s idiocy (which is difficult to do) and some eye-roll-inducing “romance,” this is a satisfying mystery. Lots of nice twists and reversals in the investigation, and a strong supporting female character that I wanted more of.

4thhouseontheleft I agree about Hastings in this book! 🙄 7mo
DGRachel Yes, I have hated Hastings in almost all of the Poirot books I‘ve read so far, but to be honest, I don‘t much care for Poirot, either. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 7mo

Yeah so Hastings, according to some, is not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but I liked him. He‘s no Watson, but he did bring questionable loyalty to the plot. A plot that, and I know this is a classic, felt a little tired in the face of modern offers. Yet it doesn‘t take too many little grey cells to get through this one with a smile.

Read this during a week at Hilton Head where my husband golfs to his hearts content so thought it was appropriate! Agatha Christie is wonderful. Never read one of her books yet that didn‘t entertain. This one is set in France. Poirot gets a letter asking him for help but when he gets to France the man has just been murdered. Previous unsolved murder is brought into play. Wonderful twists and turns in this one!

I did it! I finished my 170th book for 2017 with 30 minutes to spare. I still hate Hastings. He‘s an arrogant imbecile and I don‘t understand how Poirot can tolerate him. The mystery was interesting and I liked some of the other secondary characters, but Hastings irritates me to no end. #agathachristieclub

SassyBookworm I love the look of your stats! What app is that?! 2y
DGRachel @Chrysta23 It‘s called Bookout. It‘s still pretty glitchy, especially the sync feature and the reading challenge feature, but the developers are very responsive to questions/issues. 2y

dsfisher Really thought your dislike of Hastings would make you bail. Good for you. Great year 2y
Andrew65 @DGRachel @Chrysta I still use it glitches and all A‘s keeps a good record and calculates reading time. 2y
DGRachel @dsfisher I couldn‘t let me last book of the year be a bail. I just couldn‘t. 2y
DGRachel @andrew65 The developers told me how to correct an issue that happens way too often, so I do continue to use the app. I just have to be very cognizant of where I am in the book to catch a problem when I It happens, otherwise the reading time it calculates is garbage. The other thing that irritates me is that it doesn‘t track goals properly. Right now it shows me failing my monthly goal, even though it says I‘ve read 62 hours of my 30 hour goal. 2y

Finally, I finished it!

Another great caper from the mistress of crime fiction. I thought I knew who the murderer was but when it all came out with 30 pages to spare I knew I had it wrong.

I enjoyed this more than Stiles and she never stops me guessing. With such a vast cash of characters I'm always surprised that Christie never gives it away.

On to this month's read of Poirot Investigates next!
