💎 I finished Strange Weather today and thoroughly enjoyed all 4 novellas. It was really hard to put down because the stories were stressfully compelling. “Loaded,” the second story, hit me with the realization that Mr. Hill isn‘t here to play. He has something to say about society and it‘s time to wake up.

This was my first Joe Hill read. I liked it but didn't love it. The first story was not my favorite but was narrated by Wil Wheaton which I did enjoy. I liked the stories Loaded and Rain the most.Very odd book though overall and gives me #TeamTheme points for #TeamHendrix. #outstandingoctober @Andrew65

I enjoyed these 4 shorter stories.
Each entertaining in their own way.
Joe's imagination always astounds me.
I'm not sure how, but I've started all 4 of these books. Read the first 100 pages and then just lost interest.
🤷🏼
So it must definitely be me...😳
Entering one of those dreaded Reading Slumps 😨
I'm going to keep on trying, in the hopes that somehow I beat it before it really derail my reading.
Finally finished my Halloween read! The 1st story was pretty creepy and drew me in, but I really hated the 2nd story so I was stuck on it for a while (I don't feel the need to read a fictional account of gun lovers killing innocent people, just seems unnecessary and it didn't fit with this collection) the 3rd story was meh but the 4th story drew me back in. This was my first Joe Hill and I'd like to read more from him
@IMASLOWREADER
Story #4: I don‘t know where he comes up with his stories but his mind must be a fascinating place to be (fascinating and scary). This story deals with rain that becomes crystals that kill and the good and bad that that would bring out in society. Kate Mulgrew narrates and is perfect. So good! +6 points for #teamslaughter #scarathlon2020
Story #3: this is such an interesting, inventive sci fi short story about a man who jumps out of a plane and lands on some sort of mysterious, alien “cloud” that forms things from his mind to try and get him to stay. It‘s also a look at letting go of things/people that aren‘t meant to be. I love Joe Hill! The narrator was good and I enjoyed listening while cleaning so I could get some points for #scarathlon2020 and #littenlisten +6 points!
Story #2: Loaded. Great story about gun ownership and violence, mental illness and the effect military service might have on the psyche of a person returned from active duty, and the immense influence and reach of the media. The audiobook narrator had a great, gravelly voice, perfect for the story. +6 points for #teamslaughter. I‘ll calculate the reading points for my weekly post! #scarathlon2020 @Clwojick
Listening to the audiobook of Strange Weather, a collection of 4 short stories. Story #1: Snapshot (this photo is art from my hardcover copy). A strange, unsettling story about a mysterious camera that can steal memories. Also just a thoughtful study of memory and what we might want to remember and forget. Not my fav Joe Hill but still really good! +6 points for #teamslaughter #scarathlon2020 @Clwojick
Not my typical choice of book but I had this book on my shelf and thought it might be a good time of year to try it. 🍁
A collection of odd stories ranging from creepy to unsettling to downright horrific. Nicely done, Mr. Hill. Snapshot was extra special because Will Wheaton read it! 😁
#PopSugar2020 An anthology
Some writers are just not for me, and Joe Hill joins that list. I bailed on The Heart Shaped Box a few years back and now this. I got through "Snapshot" and "Loaded" but I have no desire to go further. Reads like bad rejects from the Twilight Zone. Not the classic 60s version or the sometimes excellent 80s version, I'm talking the lame 2000s version hosted by Forrest Whitaker. I won't bother with anymore of his writing, twice burned.

Finally got to this collection of 4 novellas.Mr. Hill is quite a storyteller! I think of the 4 I liked Aloft the least, blame it more on my taste in fantasy than Hills storytelling ability.Rain struck me to the core , though people die from an extreme weather event rather than a virus, it‘s vividness made it feel oddly parallel to what‘s happening now or an extreme version of now.
🎧 Wil Wheaton & Kate Mulgrew read 2 of the 4 stories & Joe Hill has an afterward. That alone gives it stars. 🙄 No, really, they are great! Definitely 4 solid spooky/creepy short stories. Adult situations & swearing. It really has some lovely vivid descriptions. I‘m glad I own the Audiobook. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/3
It‘s only February 1st but my #LitsyLove family is already spoiling me with birthday greetings! Thank you so much for the book and card @Soubhiville ! That was so sweet of you and it really brightened my day! I love Joe Hill and have been wanting to read this for awhile. 🤗 Thank you so much for the lovely cards and bookmarks @Lovesbooks87 @robinb 🤗 I dunno what I‘d do without my Litsy family! ❤️
He is definitely his father‘s son! In order of favorites: 1, 4, 2, 3. His endings were unexpected and perfect. I‘m sorry I waited so long to read it! #booked2020 #covercrush #popsugarreadingchallenge #anthology
Moving on to the second story. Doesn‘t everyone use a Stephen King bookmark for their Joe Hill books? #likefatherlikeson
I have a running blog, but I recently added a Fiction Friday to my line up!

Next up is my #covercrush for #booked2020 I started this book when it first came out and then put it down when I went traveling and never picked it back up! Time to start fresh!
Finished my first #NewYearWhoDis book chosen by @vivastory This isn‘t my favorite Joe Hill, but I still enjoyed it. I finished the first story, Snapshot, last week and am still thinking about it. There‘s a lot of nostalgia with Joe Hill‘s writing. We‘re the same age and liked the same things as kids and I just “get” him.
Up next, two of my favorite things - Neil Gaiman and Mythology!
Sunday night dinner date lol
So far three short stories in and has not disappointed... really enjoyed LOADED. Huge fan of Joe Hill.
I really wanted to like this, but all the stories felt like they overstayed their welcome, and the subjects are too similar to ‘three moments of an explosion‘ but not done as well. I think my biggest problem with this book was going into it expecting a horror, when none of the stories scared me. If anything, they were mostly upsetting. I suppose upset is still a reaction, so I won‘t mark this collection as a ‘pan‘, it‘s ok.
I‘m so excited to jump into some “Strange Weather” with Joe Hill @amiekreger !!! Thank you for the great #winterswap package and OHMYGAWD at the hippo lip balm case ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for hosting @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks 💛
I‘m honestly not sure how I feel about this... I both liked the characters but hated the...tone? voice? of the author. Definitely had a pulp fiction-y feel to it and maybe that‘s what I‘m disliking? But almost 2 weeks later and I‘m still thinking about some of characters. #morebookslessbullshit2019
There are illustrations at the beginning and end of each of the four novellas in Strange Weather, by four different artists. Pretty cool touch.
This was some great horror writing. The second story was tough because it was very realistic, but the other three were the Joe Hill style I dig.
Many many trigger warnings, but of course it‘s horror.
Great read for the Halloween season!
#BBRC for the Rain category.
Wow. I just finished the second story in this. That was too real, and not the ending I was hoping for. I may have to take a break from this book. Don‘t get me wrong, the writing is excellent, it‘s just as good as his other books. I was expecting more supernatural horror than real life could-be-true horror. Whew. Intense.
@Gissy gave me this one in a holiday swap almost 2 years ago! 😱 My TBR is out of control. But, ‘tis the season for a good scary read, so I‘m starting some Joe this morning! I‘ve liked his other books, so I have high hopes. (Thanks Gissy!) 🎃👻☠️
Thank you so much @AprilMae for this awesome #screamathon haul! 🤗 All of the books look awesome - I‘m a huge fan of The Conjuring movies so the book about the Warrens is right up my alley! The socks are awesome, can‘t wait to try the teas and candy! Love the journal, bookmark and book notes. Everything will be put to good use! And I‘m excited to see IT 2 hopefully soon with my hubby. Thank you again and thanks for organizing @4thhouseontheleft 👻
I have only read the first two novellas in the book. The first one was fantastic. The second one was.... well I have mixed emotions. It was a very emotional read and honestly I was sick and angry over the last chapter. I had trouble sleeping last night because of it. Still, I love Joe Hill and he is one of my favorite writers. I‘m moving on to something else, then I will come back to read the second half.
Added to my ever growing TBR mountain at the Barnes and Noble book sale. Glad I showed restraint by only getting enough books for the free tote. Super excited about them though.

OOF. I guess enjoying 50% of a book of four short stories isn‘t bad, and Hill is a good writer, but my heart didn‘t need “Loaded” and “Rain” right now. I‘m finishing up “Circe” and “Outlander” next for the #24in48 #readathon!
Well, I‘m off! I hadn‘t planned on starting for another six hours (SLEEP IS IMPORTANT), but my brain won‘t shut off and the baby is kicking, so we might as well get down to business. I usually want to crack the seal on a new book during a readathon, but this time, I have a stack of unfinished reads that I should mow through first, so I‘m finishing up Strange Weather. #24in48 #readathon
Sooooo... I ran into a portion of this book that I didn‘t love (to put it mildly). “Loaded” has a brief description of an unarmed black man getting shot and killed by the police. It‘s not necessarily graphic, but I still had to walk away from the book for a week. I still haven‘t seen how it ties in the rest of the narrative, but hopefully, that was there for a reason?
Joe Hill‘s writing has an ironic sense of humor about it.
I like how Hill isn‘t afraid to put his opinions into his writing.
I read this in two halves a few months apart. The ending of Loaded is so powerful and I had to break before continuing pretty much without realising.
Read lots of reviews saying Rain was weaker but I really enjoyed it.
Really loved this collection and interesting reading a favourite author working in a much tighter word length.
