I‘m just working out my score, hang on a sec.

95 points! Not bad, I do have two bags of library books right next to me so that was a bonus. No kindle, cup or shirt though. And most of my books are blue not green, what is it with the blue covers lately? How did you do?

#ABookishQuiz #justforfun

ljuliel Great job on points ! There do seem to be certain colors that are more popular on book covers. I picked green, since it isn‘t quite as popular as blue, sometimes red, lots of black... 1mo

4. The Name of the Wind (so long, but so good)
5. What‘s your favorite kind of pie? (Key lime for me!) #Friyayintro @howjessreads

Crimson613 I'm not a fan of pies, the inside is too much for me, but I LOVE the toasty crusts. I call dibs on those whenever the holidays come in xD but if i have to choose one...then i'd say the strawberry creme pie from mcdonalds LOL those games sound fun, what are they about? (they sound like word games) 1mo

1. I love all the people who love to read. That it doesn't matter if you are slow, fast, ⬇or inbetween. We all share a love for the written word.
2. What I am not interested in I just scroll past. Just because it's not my thing doesn't mean somone isn't into it. I will say a Pet Peeve is posts that are mostly hashtags #. Hash tags are great when they are specific, but lately we have people (probably from bookstram since that is a popular #)

LibrarianRyan who use most of the post for #. and many of them so general that they really don't help anyone find anything. hashtags are meant to group things and be a finding aid, not a way of speaking. I want to know what the reader thinks about the book, not what hash tags they think will get the most attention.

3. I wish we could double search. For example search a person and a # or two # at once. Or two people at once. I would also love a list search
LibrarianRyan 4. Ummmm. Too often. I go in spurts. When i get busy I read, and when I get time I post. But at least 2-3 a week, and slow weeks daily.

5. I love it all when Im in the mood for it. When I am not, i scroll past. It can change from day to day.

6. I wish I could see everyones post that I follow every day. It feels like i am missing people I used to talk to daily, and now maybe some have left, but others just don't show up in my feed until
That-Bookish-Hiker I agree with the hashtags. That‘s big in bookstagram but here they aren‘t necessary if you aren‘t doing a group read or group activity. 1mo
See All 27 Comments
LibrarianRyan I go looking for them.

I also which others participated more. It's easy to scroll past and just “ ❤“ something. But actually comment. Even if it is just a word, or an emoji.

I also want others to realize that this isn't bookstagram. Most do not care if you photos are not award winning. just show us what you are reading. A well loved book is always a better picture than a professionally staged one.

vivastory I've definitely noticed some spillover from the bookstagram community into Litsy. I personally wouldn't mind it if there was more of a genuine effort to engage, rather than cross-platform promotion 1mo
Caterina Yes, the posts that are mostly hashtags seem to be copied and pasted from Instagram, which bothers me because it means those people aren't treated Litsy as its own platform. Lots of times the hashtag "bookstagram" is even left in, and I'm like, that's literally all Litsy is! ? I love Litsy-based hashtags though, they're so helpful for following a particular event or questionnaire. ? 1mo
wanderinglynn I agree with all your answers, especially on the this is not bookstagram. 👍🏻 1mo
LibrarianRyan @vivastory @Caterina @Wanderinglynn I'm not knocking Instagram but since its a FB product I wont use it. But Litsy is a BOOK site. Why does someone need to use tags such as Book, reader, litlover, etc. Ummmm that's all of us... 1mo
wanderinglynn Totally agree. 1mo
ValerieAndBooks You make some very good points. Hashtags such as #book here on Litsy are just silly 😋 1mo
Bookwormjillk @LibrarianRyan you must love my terrible photos 😁 1mo
LibrarianRyan 😁@Bookwormjillk I do. have you seen all mine with the work desk calendar on them that we use as coaster? I think I did 3 of those this morning alone. 😂 1mo
julesG I'm pro unstaged pictures, too. Love your thoughts on these questions, Ryan! 1mo
ljuliel Good points Ryan. I remember seeing a few posts that are all blue hashtags. Like 50 words worth of hashtags. I didn‘t know what the heck the need for all of that was so I just ignored it. I guess if I was in Instagram I‘d know why they do it. Looks like a waste of time to me. 1mo
Bookwormjillk 😁😁😁 1mo
LibrarianRyan @ljuliel tags help people find treads or events etc. So if you ever wanted to see all @MrBooks #temptations in one spot you could, and not have to sort through his entire feed. Right now on Litsy you can only see one tag at a time, but if we could search ore than on tag say #CoverLove and #MGedition you would see all the cover love just about middle grade books and none about YA books. So they serve a purpose but that purpose gets lost in 2 many # (edited) 1mo
jb72 All of my photos are unstaged. BG is for staged. IG has me so frustrated lately with all the ads. Hashtags can be fun, but I‘ve seen a few posts with way too many tags. 1mo
Sarahreadstoomuch Um so nearly all of my photos are taken on my bed, so yes to the unstated photos. Staged are pretty yes, but I‘m just not that committed to the photo. More committed to the reading and simple sharing! 1mo
BookwormAHN Hardly any of my photos are really staged and if they are its because I'm planning to stick them on Bookstagram. Litsy is more causal which I appreciate. It's also more of a book focus than a picture focus 😺 1mo
Bookzombie I also agree about the “bookstagram” photos with all the hashtags and have unfollowed a few people if that‘s all they post. I also enjoy unstaged photos. I like to see reality. 1mo
Daisey I really like this idea of a more advanced search. It would be so helpful for finding things I know I‘ve seen! 1mo
TheAromaofBooks Love the idea of doing a dual search! That would be super helpful for narrowing down the results. 1mo
mrp27 #1 💕💕💕 1mo
UnidragonFrag I agree about the hashtags! If all someone posts are copypasta from IG, I unfollow. If I wanted bookstagram, I'd go on IG. Most of my photos are unstaged, but I also have poor lighting in my place, so I'll often throw it on my windowsill or something for a pic lol a dual search would be cool! Or if you could go on someone's profile and search just their stuff... same thing but maybe easier to implicate? Idk 1mo
LibrarianRyan @UnidragonFrag I have that same bad lighting. I love lots of light but most of mine have Edison bulbs which gives sepia tone to photos. It‘s quite annoying. I seem to take more at work. 1mo
lele1432 Loved all your points! One of the things that initially drew me to Litsy was not having the pressure of creating staged bookstagramish posts. They're great eye candy, but I really just want to be exposed to more books and know what people think about them lol. 1mo
AmyK1 Photography is a hobby and one of the few things I‘m kinda good at so I do admit to trying to make my pictures look nice, though I do use my phone 🤷‍♀️ I don‘t care what other people‘s pictures look like though. I just like to see the books 😁 1mo

Happy Monday!

Does anyone know if there's a way to display your Litsy feed on a website? Right now I have Instagram embedded, but I'd like to have Litsy instead.

#LitsyQuestions #questions

Litsy Afraid we don't have a way to embed a Litsy *feed* on external websites, but you can share individual posts anywhere on the web using the arrow icon that appears next to the “like,“ “comment,“ and “stack“ buttons on a post.

If you use Litsy on the web (https://www.litsy.com) you can also grab links to your profile, or a specific book, and share those as well. -Loranne

Borrowing from @MrBook to pose a question that‘s come to mind as we get ready to leave on vacation on Thursday: how do you manage your reading when you go away? How many books do you take? I‘m planning to take one physical book that‘s an #earlyreviewer book plus my overloaded Kindle. I have another hardcover in progress, but feel like that would be overload. What do you do?

BookaholicNatty I take a book bag full of books. I‘m not one to read on a kindle. I like to hold a physical book. I also take a few audiobooks with me too for traveling and walking when we are away. (edited) 6mo
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I should invest in ebooks for that very reason. But I usually bring an average of 5 books. Depends how long I'm away. For longer trips, I take cheap used copies that I can leave or trade. 6mo
Jerdencon Even though I like physical books I usually only take my kindle just for the sake of not going over the weight limit in my suitcase because I always overpack clothes! (edited) 6mo
See All 10 Comments
Crazeedi I took my kindle with lots of options, but I also too 4 physical books too!! 6mo
Soubhiville Traveling is for the Kindle! I also take a physical book if I am leaving the country, as a few years ago they wouldn‘t allow any electronics on the plane- all e-readers, laptops, and tablets had to be gatechecked- 😱. All I had was one magazine for a 16 hour flight. Somehow I survived, but it was close. 6mo
RaimeyGallant For my next trip, all ereader, though I'm pretty sure I'll be bringing back signed hard copies. 6mo
Lcsmcat I take my Kindle, but if I‘m driving, not flying, I also take a physical book. 6mo
Melissa_J I usually take one or both of my e-readers, and, depending what type of vacation it is (relaxing or action-packed), one or more physical books. 6mo
tournevis I answer on his post, but it's simple: Kindle, Kobo, phone. Little Free Libraries and bookstores along the way. 6mo
Oana7 I always take one book with me (a physical book) and I end up coming home with 3 or 5 😁😁 6mo

#BookWormBingo got me thinking about movie adaptations versus books. I almost couldn‘t think of one. A close call was The Princess Bride because the movie is fantastic and very close to the book (which is always key for me), but the book was every bit as good. I finally realized that The Polar Express as a movie was much more enjoyable than the picture book on which it was based. Are there movies that you enjoy more than the book? Share, please!

hjreviews For me, I actually enjoy the movie of the princess bride more. Maybe because I watched it as a kid growing up before realizing it was a book and reading it just this year. I enjoy the frame story aspect more, I don‘t miss all the levels to the dungeon of despair or all the backstories really 6mo
LaurensLibrary I liked the Annihilation movie much more than the books. Everything made more sense to me after the movie. 6mo
AndiM I preferred the movie from the book The Help, thought the actors were excellent! Loved Stardust movie, enjoyed the book. The Book Thief was done well IMHO. 6mo
See All 32 Comments
Emilymdxn Brokeback mountain, the story is amazing and by one of my favourite writers so I‘m not disliking the original, but the movie was better 6mo
CarolynM I liked the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower but I loved the movie. 6mo
Freespirit I have just read Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy which was a great read but the movie is superb! 6mo
vivastory It's a tv series, not a movie, but Killing Eve definitely comes to mind. The book is rather mediocre. 6mo
TheAromaofBooks I go back and forth on Ready Player One - I feel like the movie had more of an upbeat vibe (which I liked), although there were a lot of fun details in the book that the movie lacked. Princess Bride is similar - the book is more of a downer, but also has a lot more backstory and intrigue. 6mo
rretzler @hjreviews I wonder if it depends on whether you read the book first or see the movie first. There are tons of movies and shows that I don‘t realize until much later than they were a book first, and for many of them, I still haven‘t read the book. 6mo
rretzler @laurenslibrary I‘ve read the book, but have not seen the movie. Sounds like i need to watch it. The book was okay, I liked it but it didn‘t really grab me. 6mo
rretzler @AndiM I have neither seen nor read The Help or Stardust though they‘re in my mind to read someday. I haven‘t seen The Book Thief yet. It was another where I enjoyed the book, but it also left me with a sort of vaguely dissatisfied feeling too. Hard to explain, as I would read it again. 6mo
rretzler @Emilymdxn Another that I would like to read/watch someday 6mo
rretzler @CarolynM That‘s one that I‘ve liked the book so much I‘ve been afraid to watch the movie. 🤣 Sounds like I‘ll have to watch one of these days 6mo
rretzler @Freespirit I‘m making my way through the Smiley series and that book is up next. I have seen the movie and I agree it was wonderful- watched it several times! 6mo
rretzler @vivastory Love the show! Can‘t wait for the 3rd season! Season 2 certainly took a twist. I‘ve not read the book yet, but you‘re not the first person to have that opinion. I think I may just pretend that there isn‘t a book! 6mo
rretzler @TheAromaofBooks I think I‘d have to say that I liked the RPO book better than the movie, but that‘s because i read it long before the movie. I‘m always a stickler for the movie following the book, and I guess RPO did for the most part, but it did leave out some fun stuff, as you said 6mo
rretzler One movie that I thought I would like but hated is the Peter Jackson adaptation of The Hobbit. Ugh! All the made up stuff for the movie. I expected better from Jackson after his LOTR adaptation. 6mo
Gezemice Casino Royale. The movie was soooooo much better. The book has an awful romance and full of mysoginy. They re-wrote those parts in the movie and it had a compelling female lead. Also - Shrek was a book once. Don‘t read it, its terrible. 6mo
Branwen Coraline! While I thought the book was okay, I felt the movie really blew it out of the water. It was much creepier! 6mo
hjreviews @rretzler I‘m sure it does. I also expect my childhood fondness plays a huge role. However, I always try my best to read the novel first as a way to respect how the author originally wanted their story/world portrayed 6mo
rretzler @Gezemice Good point about Ian Fleming. It‘s been a long while since I read any - probably the 1970s but they are certainly very dated these days. I enjoyed the books way back when, but if I recall they bear little relation to the movies, with the possible exception of perhaps the fist few Sean Connery movies. For the past several decades, the movies have been action packed and only the Bond character seems to have remained. 6mo
rretzler @Branwen I enjoyed both the book and the movie, but certainly the movie really helped to visualize that creepiness. 6mo
EclecticReaders This is a great discussion! We actually had a segment on movies we liked better than the books back on podcast episode 52 if you‘re interested (and The Princess Bride was definitely mentioned 😉) eclecticreaders.fireside.fm/52 6mo
rretzler @hjreviews I‘m the same - I do try to read the novel first, if I realize that it was a novel first. These days, though, I can‘t really seem to keep up. And if i really like a book, I usually end up very disappointed with the movie - with a few exceptions! 6mo
rretzler @EclecticReaders Thanks, I‘m certainly enjoying it and getting lots of good tips for movies to watch - and possible books to read (although at this point I have a TBR pile that will last me my lifetime!) I‘ll check out the podcast 6mo
EclecticReaders @rretzler haha, that‘s always the bookworm‘s dilemma 😂 enjoy! 6mo
rretzler I recently read Good Omens in preparation for the Amazon Prime show. We‘ve been savoring it by watching an episode a night - tonight is our last episode. We‘ve really enjoyed it. I think it helps that Gaiman was involved in the adaptation. I‘m missing a few items from the book bit not much 6mo
rretzler @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Interesting, I‘ve not read the book or seen the movie. 6mo
jimfields3 I don't know where I land on the book-vs-movie debate for The Princess Bride, but I do lean towards the movie. And right now I hear Peter Falk saying, "The Princess Bride. By S. Morgenstern. Chapter 1." ? 6mo
rretzler @jimfields3 Makes me want to rewatch the movie right now. Inconceivable! 🤣 6mo

1. A Dance Of Dragons - Jon Snow being stabbed just blew my mind!
2. The Usual Suspects - That ending with Kevin Spacey. The man may be a dick, but he‘s a great actor. The first movie that made me speechless.
3. Gimme Head by The Radiators. - blew my tiny teenage mind in the early 80s, such a shocking little song! Any other Aussie remember it!

Hey everyone,

Quick question! Just wondering what “movie based on a book” that everyone suggests? I currently have a week off, and the weather is not nearly as nice as I hoped, so I thought I‘d catch up with some reading and movies. I just realized I still haven‘t seen Everything, Everything and it made me wonder what else I‘ve missed or forgotten about. Send send me your suggestions!

Calling all littens:

I need your help. I‘m looking for books that deal with rape in a sensitive way as well as the consequences. If the books touches on pursuing legal action or healing, you get bonus points.

akckitty Some good ones. I can't remember which one's dealt with also going to court though. But all great reads that deals with it with sensitivity. 9mo
akckitty Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, I Have the Right To by Cheesy Prout, Wrecked by Maria Padian, Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu, The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith.. 9mo
akckitty What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler, All the Rage by Courtney Summers.. hope some of these help what you're looking for! 9mo

esurient Child victim of parental incest, follows through public disclosure, arrest, decision to accept a plea arrangement and why, post-trama therapy, and stable and contented adulthood. 9mo
esurient Memoir, college-age victim, a lot of detail in trying to make arrest, build court case, follow through court case, come to her own equilibrium. Writing is more 'articulated rage' than 'sensitive'. 1999 publication, describes 1981 event. 9mo
esurient I second @akckitty 's recommendation. Only court is public opinion, great narration from the teen's own point of view. There's also a film adaptation. 9mo
Beachesnbooks Powerful essay collection dealing with rape culture edited by Roxane Gay. Highly recommend 9mo
Scochrane26 Invisible girls (more about sexual abuse), the sound of silence (different real life stories from women & at least one man who has realized he date-raped a girl), lucky (author of lovely bones)). Laurie Halse Anderson has a new memoir about her experience & also wrote Speak. (edited) 9mo
BooksAndTea97 It's a YA book but I think it is really good. It deals with rape and also with other stuff such as mental health and sexual orientation.(It's told from three different teen perspectives) I think it is greatly underapreaciated and that there should be a bit more hype around it. 9mo
youneverarrived It‘s been a while since I read it but 9mo

Sooo I have a random question that is #Litsy related. If I review a book as “bail” does it still count as having been read? I need to know before I post a review for the awful book I‘ll be finishing tonight lol. I am not technically “bailing” on it because I am finishing all 400 pages, but wouldn‘t want to give it more credit than it‘s due 🤷‍♀️🤣

AlaMich You can give it a “pan” if you finished it and thought it was bad. 9mo
tpixie Yes, I'd 'Pan" it. Bail typicaly means you didn't finish it. 9mo
TheLibrarian I‘d go with @AlaMich and do “pan” 9mo
