📚The Forgotten Garden- Kate Morton. Brilliant aussie writer.
✍🏼Raymond.E.Feist. Magician is still one of the best epic fantasy‘s written.
🎥Firefly! Of course🙌
🎤Foo Fighters forever! Taylor Hawkins will be missed always💔
🎵Friend of a Friend- Foo Fighters. Dave‘s love letter to Kurt. Another star that burned too bright for this world.🤘

#ManicMonday #letterF

CBee Did you watch any of the tribute concerts? Taylor‘s son played the drums on “Hero” 💔 3mo
Lizpixie @CBee of course! He was magnificent, his dad would be so proud. He pounded those skins harder than Dave himself! 3mo
CBee @Lizpixie he was!! I thought the same, he was really hitting those hard! Can‘t imagine what they‘re all going through 💔🙁 3mo

Lizpixie @CBee apparently Dave just lost his mom too who he was really close to. He looks so drawn & sad😢 3mo
CBee @Lizpixie his mom?? Oh no, poor Dave!! I hadn‘t heard about that 💔💔💔 3mo
Lizpixie @CBee yeah. She raised him on her own after his dad left when he was 7. Must be tearing him apart losing both her & his best friend. 3mo
CBee @Lizpixie I listened to his book a few months back and loved it. He talks about his mom with such love ❤️ 3mo
Lizpixie @CBee me too, it was my 1st book of the year. He must miss her so much. I lost my mum recently and I tear up at the oddest moments, like the royal family vigil today over the queens coffin. Had me bawling so bad.😭 3mo
wanderinglynn @Lizpixie @CBee I saw that he lost her in late July. She was 84. So sad! She seems like such an interesting person. 3mo
CBee @Lizpixie I get it! I lost my mom in 2020 and my dad in 2021, so I feel a bit of kinship with her children, losing their parents so close together. It‘s hard anytime, but to lose them both in a little over a year….. it‘s immense. So yes, I‘ve been teary a bit more than usual the past few days 🙁 3mo
CBee @wanderinglynn she seemed so great! Always so supportive of Dave and his biggest fan ♥️ 3mo
Suet624 I‘m a huge Foos fan and I still watch videos of theirs to get me going each morning. I miss Taylor. Great videos on YouTube with Dave and his mom. She wrote a book too which I haven‘t read yet but want to. 3mo

What don‘t I collect? The tops of my library shelves hold my collection of literary mugs, POP vinyls etc. There‘s a giant novelty mug full of bookmarks on my desk, there‘s trinket dishes, stickers, magnets, my huge Potterverse collection including wands, and beside the library door is a display of pin flags that are full with more in progress hanging on the door.I have a box full of book sleeves. KristiAhlers @Cinfhen it was amazing. And I honestly am not a fan of Kings work in the past. But for some reason this one grabbed me in the first two pages and held me captive. I even…wait for it…made space on my keeper bookcase for it. So there ya go 🤣 3mo

1. I‘m actually reading one right now! I started the ebook of Five Days At Memorial by Sheri Fink on Scribd after watching the first eps on AppleTV. As a chronic care patient, the thought of being caught in something like that terrifies me.
2. Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn Ward is one I have to read.

📖 The Black Echo by Michael Connolly. 1st Bosch book & one of the best.
✍🏼 Alan Bradley. His Flavia de Luce novels are brilliant.
📺 The Blacklist. James Spader. Enough said.
🎸 Beck. Especially his Seachange album. Gorgeous.
🎤 Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. That sax brings back the 70s for me.

#ManicMonday #letterB

vivastory One of my favorite concerts ever was seeing Beck in '97. The Roots opened & I actually got to meet them beforehand. 4mo
Lizpixie @vivastory lucky you! It‘s so hard to go to great concerts in Aus, a lot of artists either don‘t come or when they do it gets sold out in minutes. Last one I went to was Ryan Adams at the Enmore Theatre in Newtown. It was fabulous. I really wanted to see the Foo Fighters this year but then Taylor died😢 4mo

2. I read indoors coz of my health mostly but I do love to read outside sometimes.

1. I‘d go back to the 70s! I absolutely loved my childhood in that decade. We struggled with no money due to my dad being injured at work but I remember the 70s as being a time of being free. We roamed our town, played outside till the streetlights went on, went on picnics, to the river or beach in summer, the mountains in winter. The music was awesome, the whole vibe was just wonderful.✌️

MaGoose Finding Napoleon by Margaret Rodenberg. Great historical fiction. Loved it, and didn't. Rodenberg portrayed Napoleon as very human and likeable. But the book was often 🐌 slow moving as I felt Rodenberg delivered too much minutiae. This one was a chunkster in style, I guess. It was 392 pages but felt a lot longer. I did enjoy it more than not, though. And no, I don't often avoid longer books. 10mo

Clwojick Definitely! If you read a non Christmas/Winter book you still get points for it. Christmas books are 25pt, books that are on your TBR/ books you‘ve been wanting to read are worth 15pts, and any totally new to you or impulse reads are worth 10pts. Littens - would love suggestions for #Booked2021 prompt Appalachian Noir. I abandoned Winter's Bone... is there such a thing as a story in this genre that's not quite so dark? I like thrillers, but Winter's Bone was just too disturbing for me. TIA!

Susanita Yes that book is depressing as hell. This one is part of a series, but I read it as a standalone with no problem. 1y
Hestapleton Try the tagged! It‘s a YA thriller about a girl who gets lost on the Appalachian trail. It‘s what I used for this prompt. It was utterly engrossing and didn‘t feel like YA except for the protagonist‘s age. 1y

We've all cancelled nights out with friends & family etc (at least when those were a thing) to read, but I want to know what is the farthest that you have gone in order to read? I was ENGROSSED in my book earlier today & had only about 30 pages left when I had to leave for a Dr appointment. I was sorely tempted to reschedule for Monday. Like 85% tempted...

Librariana I don't know if this counts necessarily... but my husband and I (as well as me on my own ONCE) stayed in the car for well over an hour (when we had already arrived at our house!) to finish an audiobook. 2y
AmyG I am sadly very responsible so I don‘t cancel but I DO grumble about not being able to read. @Librariana Oh, I have done that 🤣 (edited) 2y
vivastory @Librariana That definitely counts! I 💙 that! 2y

Tattooedteacher Truth be told, my family completely fended for themselves the weekend I read the 7th Harry Potter. I literally did nothing but read. 2y
vivastory @AmyG Me too. I really hate how responsible I am sometimes. 2y
vivastory @Tattooedteacher 😂I try to have a weekend like that every couple of months 2y
Trashcanman I've not come home and usually read or wander around. It's usually when I'm having an episode. I don't come home, it's a bad habit. 2y
Johanna414 As a teenager, I made my parents stop to buy the newest harry potter book (#4?) on our way to vacation then pretended to be sick for 2 days while everyone else went to amusement parts. My uncle used it as an excuse to stay behind as well, so he watched sports while I read my book. It was fabulous! 2y
Twainy Harry freaking Potter made me late to work many times. Somehow being in the parking lot on time didn‘t qualify as being on time to work. Back when books on CD were a thing ..... 2y
vivastory @Johanna414 That's awesome! 😂 2y
vivastory @Twainy Sometimes I'll close my office door & sneak in a few minutes of reading... 😬 2y
JamieArc I cancelled a Valentine‘s Day date one year because I really wanted to have a date with my book, a glass of wine, and the bathtub. I had no regrets 😂 2y
vivastory @JamieArc That's fantastic! 😂 2y
Kenyazero I think the furthest I've gone is staying up until 1 or 2 am knowing full well I'll be more prone to anxiety attacks the next day 😏. Worth it. 2y
vivastory @Kenyazero I too like to live dangerously. Thankfully there's coffee! 2y
saresmoore My kid(s) in therapy someday: “My mom loved us, I know, but she ignored us a LOT when she was reading, which was basically all the time...” 🙃 2y
vivastory @saresmoore 😂If I remember correctly my mom told my brothers & I to make our own entertainment...I was generally better at that than they were since if I wasn't outside I'd be content with a book 2y
Reggie The day the 7th Harry Potter came out I stayed up all night to read it and went to work on 3 hours of sleep the next day because I was gonna be Damned if someone spoiled anything for me. Other than that. I‘ve stayed in my car after work at work reading for an hour just to finish books. 2y
MaleficentBookDragon I‘ve called in sick to work so I could stay home and read. 🤫 don‘t tell my boss. 2y
MsMelissa I nicely asked my husband to take our daughter to my in-laws for the entire day so I could read the final Harry Potter book in complete peace and quiet. @Tattooedteacher 2y
EvieBee I did call in sick to finish this one...and I was already pushing a deadline. But I had to know it would end! It couldn‘t wait. 2y
Hallaz31 I woke up early to revise my lessons but I was tempted to read this novel so I said to myself "so what ?read one chapter and the revise" .... I spent the whole morning READING and didn't revise a thing ???? 2y
KVanRead There may have been a good bit of laissez faire parenting and finger paint involved in my finishing this one 2y
KVanRead But it was non toxic paint and it all came off in the tub 😂 I also sometimes read whatever I was reading aloud to my kids because I just couldn‘t put it down, but they do have great vocabularies 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
Suet624 @vivastory wait...you have an office door??? 2y
Billypar Great question. I don't have any extreme stories, but pre-pandemic, I always tried to figure out how to best read while I'm out with others who are shopping. I think I settled on, physical book outside the store, or e-book inside. I've tried reading my physical book inside CVS or Target and it feels a bit awkward 🙂 2y
Centique @vivastory @Reggie I know I am very late to this thread BUT ... I once left my boyfriend and friends in a bar in town at 11pm on New Years Eve and taxied home to finish my book. It was a very rational weighing up of how good the night was looking versus how good the book was. 😂😂😂 It was one of the my best NYEs ever but darned if I can remember what the book was! 2y
vivastory @Centique 😂 😂This is fantastic! 2y
Reggie @Centique lololol I totally respect that! 2y

1. Yes! I‘m that old I‘ve actually listened to books on CD, both ones I bought & ones I borrowed from the library.🎧👵🏻
2. Not all the time but yes I do. I like to match up playlists with either the setting of the book or the time period it‘s set in.🎵

Have at it @CarolynM @Cinfhen @Andrew65 & @AmyG

Quick question: do you guys count your DNFs toward your yearly reading goals or just finished books? I am thinking that it's best to just count the finished ones but would like to know what others do. Thanks!!

Chrissyreadit I do not count DNFs. 2y
Crazeedi I don't count DNF's 2y
Libby1 I count them if I‘ve put a lot of time into them or skim until the end. 2y
See All 18 Comments
KathyWheeler I just count finished books. 2y
SaturnDoo I don't count DNFs 2y
Tera66 I do not count DNF's, but I rarely DNF, I hate to give up on a book. 2y
readordierachel I count them if I've read about a third or more. I put the time in, I want it to count, lol 2y
AlisBookNookCorner It depends on how much I've read. If it is less than 100 pages, then no. If I've read 100 or more pages then, yes. I usually rate my DNF as 1 star, with a note as to why I did not like it. 2y
bibliobliss @Chrissyreadit 👍 I don't think I will either 2y
bibliobliss @Crazeedi 👍 I don't think I will either 2y
bibliobliss @Libby1 👍 that makes sense 2y
bibliobliss @KathyWheeler 👍 ok, that's what I will do 2y
bibliobliss @SaturnDoo 👍 I won't count them either 2y
bibliobliss @Tera66 👍 yes, I don't like it either 2y
bibliobliss @readordierachel 👍😁 right. That makes sense to me!! 2y
bibliobliss @AlisBookNookCorner 👍 ok. 100 pages is a good measure. I don't rate my DNFs because I don't feel that I can fairly rate/review if I haven't finished a book 2y
jb72 I don‘t count my DNF books nor do I rate them. I just move one. 2y
bibliobliss @jb72 👍 ok 2y

Hey Littens! Can you help a girl out? For those of you who use Goodreads, do you log your books read using the appropriate edition, whether that be hardcover, paperback, eBook, or audiobook? I‘ve always tried to pick the corresponding edition, but that means never meeting my annual page goal. Just curious how everyone else does it. Thanks!

alisiakae I kind of choose whatever edition pops up! I‘ve never looked that closely. 2y
Graciouswarriorprincess I normally do hardcover with everything. 2y
Eggbeater I never pay attention 2y
See All 14 Comments
Traci1 Whatever pops up when I'm searching. I didn't realize they even had different editions listed. 2y
Catsandbooks I usually do the hardcover edition for audiobooks or whatever the first/original edition is. 2y
Bookzombie I try to select an audiobook edition if that‘s what I read, but otherwise I don‘t specify. I don‘t have a yearly page goal though. 2y
Amandajoy I didn‘t know goodreads would log audiobooks like that. I created a shelf where I tag my audiobooks so I can track them myself. 2y
DGRachel @4thhouseontheleft @Graciouswarriorprincess @Eggbeater @Traci1 @Catsandbooks @Bookzombie @Amandajoy Thanks all! I won‘t feel guilty changing everything over to print so I can have a page count. I do have a shelf for audiobooks, so I‘ll continue to file audiobooks there. 🥰 2y
Eggbeater It counts as reading so you might as well count the pages imo. It's just reading with your ears instead of your eyes. 2y
LibrarianRyan I load what ever book comes up. I prefer to tag the hardcover edition but I don‘t honestly care. 2y
andreadmw I log them as audiobooks 2y
sprainedbrain I don‘t change the edition to audiobook, but I also don‘t track my pages read via GR (I have a spreadsheet that I used to track pages read for print/digital and hours listened for audio). I also have a shelf on GR for ‘audiobooks finished‘ that I use religiously. 2y
DGRachel @sprainedbrain I have a spreadsheet, too, but it specifically breaks out audiobooks from print/digital. I may see what happens to the stats tab if I plug in page numbers as well as hours/minutes. 2y
sprainedbrain I should have said... I don‘t fill in the pages column for audiobooks, just like I don‘t fill in the runtime column for print or digital books I read with my eyeballs. 🤣 2y

What is August‘s #BOTM ? Who usually has the spoilers for the next month? Thanks.

Megabooks @swishandflick know anything? 2y
JamieArc The clues were super vague this month - they only said Book 1, Book 2, etc. There‘s a theory that the number has to do with the title (so maybe book 5 is for Lions of 5th Avenue). This is why there aren‘t solid guesses yet. We know what Jenna‘s pick will be, which is usually a BOTM. There‘s a BOTM Spoiler group on Facebook where people share ideas too. (edited) 2y
swishandflick @Megabooks The only spoiler I'm aware of so far is The Comeback (since that's set to be Jenna's pick for August, and her picks are available through BOTM). Other than that not sure yet! (edited) 2y
See All 7 Comments
Betty @JamieArc I‘ve tried to find the FB BOTM spoiler group. 926612834 but it won‘t let me find it 2y
ValerieAndBooks Long time no see! Hope all is well for you. After the BOTM app started working again, it said check back on August 1st (after I click on the number of credits available button). Long time to wait 😬 2y
The_Heeler_Booklife I‘m hoping they put them up tomorrow. 2y

What is #bookspin? 😊😊😊
I keep seeing it and it looks like fun. I love a reading challenge.
Thanks!

Clwojick Check out @TheAromaofBooks page! She hosts the monthly challenge. Basically each person makes a list of 20 books on their TBR each month, and then Sarah randomly selects two (sometimes more) numbers from a jar and those are the books you read that month. If you tag her in your reviews you get entered into a draw for the end of the year. I think that about covers it, lol 3y
Maria514626 Thanks @Clwojick! That sounds like a great way to get past indecision. 😄 Thanks for the info! 👍 3y
TheAromaofBooks haha @Clwojick summarized so well that I don't really have much to add!! 😂 If you want to join, just make your list of 20 & tag me when you post it - then I'll tag you when I draw the numbers, which is always on the 2nd of the month. No rules on list-making - it's totally up to you what you want to put on it!! 3y
Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks I‘m slacking this month! I still have to make my list! I‘m trying not to cheat, and put all my #REadYourSign picks on there since I already know I‘m reading those 😅 maybe I‘ll choose ebooks this time 😅😅😅 3y
Maria514626 @TheAromaofBooks Thanks! I‘m narrowing down my list! 3y

Wow, this is such a tough question to answer. I have so many books in my mental Rolodex, it‘s hard to choose 3.

♥️ The Eye Of The World-Robert Jordan. Bk1 of the WOT series is fantastic & has a special place in my heart.
♥️ Skin Privilege-Karin Slaughter. Bk6 of her Grant County series, this is the one that changes Sara‘s life forever😭
♥️ The Rowan-Anne McCaffrey. I love all of McCaffreys series, but have a soft spot for Bk1 of TTATH.
#Favs

Lizpixie I decided on one each from my top genres, Fantasy, Crime & SciFi. 3y

So..... @TheAromaofBooks, are you planning on doing another #bookspinbonanza for June? I'm already preparing my list....

TheAromaofBooks I am not planning to do the full Bonanza, but should have regular #BookSpin/#DoubleSpin like usual. For July I'm working on an idea called #BookSpinBingo, and I'll probably do another Bonanza round sometime this fall. 😁 3y
