Little House Collection Box Set (Full Color)
Little House Collection Box Set (Full Color) | Laura Ingalls Wilder
Set during the pioneer days of the late 1800s and early 1900s, Laura Ingalls Wilder's books chronicle her life growing up on the Western frontier. Come along for the adventure with this collector's set of the first fiveLittle Housebooks, featuringGarth Williams' interior art in vibrant full color. The Little House books have been cherished by generations of readers as both a unique glimpse into America's frontier history and a heartwarming, unforgettable story. The story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her Pa, her Ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town. And every night they are safe and warm in their little house, with the happy sound of Pa's fiddle sending Laura and her sisters off to sleep. And so begins Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved story of a pioneer girl and her family. #LittleHouse

It‘s been a wonderful journey rereading the Little House Series from beginning to end. Reading with adult eyes there were some problematic moments but those should be used to teach and do better. Overall I still adore Laura and her simple stories of pioneer life with her family. There is still much to learn from her books and I hope they continue to be read by generations to come.

What‘s the first book you remember reading?

Little House on the Prairie. Remember My 4th grade teacher helping me learn to read with my dyslexia instead of shaming me and calling me stupid like others before her. I still have the 3 books she gave me too. Been addicted to reading since than.

Ruthiella Laura Ingalls Wilder was what made me a bookish person too. I never looked back. 2y
Bklover I loved these books too! 2y
Sparklemn I loved them, too, and remember my birthday when I received On The Banks of Plum Creek. One of my best birthday memories!

1. Occasionally
2. I'm not a big fan of series, but the Little House set is what got me hooked and I'm guilty of loving Outlander. I can count on one hand how many series I've read.
3. The character has a favorite sandwich.
4. Today I'm grateful that my family has not yet known covid. We have been really lucky.
#isitreallywednesday

mandarchy Harriet the Spy: tomato sandwich. Magnolia (Elise Parsley character): egg and cheese sandwich. 3y

jenniferw88 Paddington and Marmalade! 🤣 3y
Bklover @mandarchy Every time I even think about Harriet the Spy I want a tomato sandwich and an egg cream! (Finally had an egg cream several years ago and it was wonderful). 3y
Bklover @mandarchy And how about Heidi and her grilled goat cheese and bread sandwiches that Grandfather made her? 3y
mandarchy @jenniferw88 & @Bklover good ones! I don't even know what an egg cream is. Is it like an eggnog without the seasoning? 3y
Bklover @mandarchy It‘s a combination of carbonated water, syrup, and milk. I‘ve only had chocolate. No cream and no eggs. Go figure. 3y
mandarchy @Bklover Oh that's like on Laverne and Shirley when Laverne would drink Milk and Pepsi. I actually ordered a Pepsi with a little ice cream in it for a treat the other day. And I wonder why I can't lose weight... 3y

Day 1 of 7: Books that have made a lasting impression on me

I actually think this is more interesting with explanation. The Little House books are some of the first chapter books I specifically remember reading, and the hard working family reminded me somewhat of my own. Through my life I‘ve read more of Laura‘s work and about her relationship with her daughter Rose. This author and her stories are some that I‘ve never forgotten.

#7days7books

jewright Some of my favorites too! 5y
tpixie @Daisey my paperback version of Farmer‘s Boy fell into a drainage ditch when I was walking home from school. Ronnie Roth 😊 a friend who was walking with me, umped in and rescued it. I had this yellow box set when I was a kid and foolishly got rid of it when I was about 13. "I'm done with baby books!" I remember saying. Through the years I've always regretted it, and am happy to report that I finally got myself a replacement! There is just nothing like the books you read in childhood, amirite? #lauraingallswilder #currentlyreading

marleed Oh good for you! I‘m agree! 5y

Andrea313 @LapReader Your name is Allissa? That doesn't appear in the books, but I still recommend reading them if you haven't! I'll have to find that episode of the TV show; I don't recall seeing it! 5y
Andrea313 @quietjenn I've been looking for awhile and finally found a good deal- on Facebook marketplace, of all things, after scouring eBay and AbeBooks. Keep your eye out and I bet you'll find just the right thing! ❤ 5y

For the #favoriteseries challenge on @24in48, I want to share my very old and damaged Little House on the Prairie set. While these are now pretty widely regarded as problematic and the author is much-discussed, for me, this is the series that taught me to love reading. When I was little, my dad would read these to me, until I was old enough to read them to him. They built the foundation of my reading habits, and for that, I am so grateful.

Found nearly a complete set of the rest in vintage paperback format at a #librarysale today, so I snatched them up and ordered the two I‘m still missing from #BookOutlet

My TBR pile is ridiculously long right now, but I can‘t wait to crack these open.

Little house series by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I don‘t think I‘ve given up on a series at least not knowing there was more than one book

I force my sister to read it and then put it on my shelf if I really liked it, until spring cleaning every year and then I go through and eliminate

I do have an offline book club :) we meet at local breweries and low key bars to discuss over beer
Thanks for the weekend chat @CSeydel and @thereadingowlvina
