3✨

As I was looking through my alphabet challenge I realised that I haven't read any books with a K. So I got on a mission to find something cute and short to fill the void.
My reading slump is still ongoing so I knew not to do something over the top.

And when I realised I had the Baby-sitters club on Audio it was like a sign.

👇🏻

Enchanted_Bibliophile I read some of these when I was younger, but I was more into the Famous Five and those adventure type books, so the Baby-sitters were few and far between.

But coming back to these was a lot of fun. I don't think I've ever read this first book, so it was nice to see how it all started.

I'm kinda in the mood to listen to all of them now. Might this be the end of my dreaded reading slump? Here's to hoping!
4mo
mabell I remember reading some, but like you, I don‘t think I read many. I enjoyed them, but I guess I preferred other series/books. Didn‘t they choose Claudia as the club contact because she had her own phone? 😄 4mo

5✨I read this series when I was a kid, but never got to finish it. I‘m starting over now, and the beauty of the story is timeless. While I like the original covers better I‘m excited to read from the newer edition. In this book Kristy learns a lot about herself, her friends, and her family. All because she has the brilliant idea to create a babysitter club to help parents find a babysitter a lot easier. April #roll100 and 2nd book for #20in4

I haven't read this book since I was a tween and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it is just as good as I remember! Kristy's voice is very clear, her "trouble making" and complicated feelings about her mom's new boyfriend. There's a scene where Kristy's new babysitting charges end up being two Saint Bernards named Buffy and Minky, one of which runs right over her and I could not stop laughing. Also Kristy thinks boys are gross, so gay.

Bookwormjillk These books had such an influence on my 4th grade life. I still pick one up from time to time. 2y

I don't know how I missed these books when I was a kid. I was exactly the same age as the girls in the club when this first one came out. I remember it (and the following books in the series) being one of my choices in my Scholastic book-of-the-month club. But I never read one. I started to feel like I was missing out recently when it seemed like quite a few of the hosts on the book podcasts I listen to were doing rereads, so I thought 🤷‍♀️

Just listened to the first episode of the BSC Club podcast! Thank you for the rec @Blaire ! So funny. 😆

Although they got the setting wrong. They referred a few times to Stoneybrook as being on Long Island, when it‘s actually in CT (somewhere near Stamford).

SkeletonKey Oooo. I rescued my collection from my childhood home recently and it would be fun to revisit and listen to this, lol. 4y
alisiakae @SkeletonKey you definitely should! And then watch the new series when it drops on Netflix in July! 4y
Amiable Easy to get confused because there is Stony Brook, NY. Which is on Long Island. 4y
See All 9 Comments
Blaire So happy you like it!! They do eventually correct the Long Island error after receiving listener feedback. 😂🤣😂. It‘s such a nice light break from the news etc... 4y
Aloisi_tribe I love BSCC! I‘ve listened to every episode. When the quarantine started and I couldn‘t read or even watch TV because my anxiety was so out of control, relistening to the BSCC was like meeting up with old friends. 4y
alisiakae @Amiable Yeah, I figured that's where it came from. The first book actually mentions Stamford being nearby, which is also where my brother-in-law lives (well, they actually just move to Darien last year). 4y
alisiakae @Blaire oh, good! that was kinda bothering me. 😂 4y
alisiakae @Aloisi_tribe that's exactly how I feel, like I'm reconnecting with old friends. They are going to be my summer escape reads. Although I can't keep up with Maya, who is reading 2-3 of them a day right now. 😂 4y
Amiable I‘ve never read any of these books, so having grown up (and still living in!) in Connecticut I automatically think of Long Island when I hear the name Stony Brook. Because there is no real Stoneybrook in CT—it‘s just a fictitious name of the town in the books. (edited) 4y

This was a lot of fun! I literally remembered exact lines from the stories, even though it‘s been about 25 years since I read them. alisonrose @MelissaSue81 Well, it is middle grade, and outdated middle grade at that. Not something you go into expecting brilliance. As I said, I thought it was fun to revisit. If you didn‘t, that‘s fine, but calling something that someone just said they liked “junk” is unnecessary. 5y
