Not my cup of tea. The narrator was great and it was a bit funny, but it just didn‘t keep me engaged. 😕

#ReadingBracket2024 March fiction update
Wow wow wow this was such a tough month to choose a favorite, I read so many amazing books! Narrowing it down to just two was still extremely difficult but I decided to choose one fantasy and one romance for the bonus slot.
“The Emperor needs necromancers.
The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.
Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead nonsense.
Tamsyn Muir‘s Gideon the Ninth, first in The Locked Tomb Trilogy, unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap off the page, as skillfully animated as arcane revenants. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy.”
#ItTakesAllKinds Day 24: From what I understand, this fulfills the #InsaneProtag criteria - or maybe it is Harrow the Ninth? i have yet to sink my teeth into this series especially since I only have this first book at the moment. 💀☠️
I dunno why I held out on reading this one for so long but it was my bookclub's pick this month and I'm so glad! It's about necromancers so yes, it's dark & a bit macabre but it's also compelling & witty & I didn't want to stop reading. There's a mystery to uncover in a Gothic palace, a possible murderer to reveal & so many sword fights. Gideon was such a fun character to experience it all through her eyes

“Ghastly and obvious are my middle names” 💀😂
The Storygraph AI-generated previews crack me up sometimes. Yes, my favorite genres: adventure, mystery, and lesbian necromancers 🤣🤣
I loved this book, though keeping up on audio was tough at times.
Idk if i just havent read enough but i just cannot get into this book. Anyone else read it yet? Is it a slow start?
“Evidence,” he said, “outweighs testimony.”
“But you‘re God.” And God said, “And I am not enough.”
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was an exciting journey to and ending that I did not anticipate (although maybe I should have). Will definitely keep reading the series.
Had a lovely lunch date discussing the Locked Tomb series with two friends, complete with skull snacks 💀🍄
Gideon is pissed about the hand she was dealt in life and has no qualms making it everybody‘s problem. When she‘s forced into the cavalier job for necromancer Harrow, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House and her mortal enemy, she turns her anger towards whatever is picking off necro/cav pairs.
Dark humor, a bit graphic, and confusing at times. Read it slowly, refer to the guides in the front and the back, and consider reading it a second time.
Third time around, adding more fans to the cult as we go 😏
Two more of my favorite bookmarks went out today! Love seeing these in the hands of readers 😍

Even better on the re-read. I loved it in audio, which was how I consumed it the first go ‘round. But I am super glad I went for the print version this time. 💀💀💀💀💀
#AutumnPlease #Day16 #BadBossDay I don‘t know about you but Harrow sounds like one HELL of a Bad Boss! #Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub 6pts
Still not sure I truly understood anything that happened in this book 🤣🤣. But an undeniably cool cover. With many #skeletons AND #bones.

I‘ll admit this one took me a fair while to get into (that‘s a LOT of world building to take in) but by the end I was absolutely on board and I‘ll definitely be reading the sequel. Very inventive, ghoulish and odd. I‘ve never read anything going this deep into necromancy before and I enjoyed the trip, and also the cool mix of sci fi and fantasy that you don‘t see much.

I also want to read the tagged book 💀 🖤
Hi book friends! I got a new phone, found out I couldn't download the litsy app, and suddenly became much worse at keeping it updated. But I have some free time, lets see if we can get caught up on reviews!
Wanting to complete a row in July's #bookspinbingo finally had me read this, which has been sitting on my Libro.fm app after buying it on sale. I was hesitant because I've heard mixed things about the series from trusted reader friends. (1/2)
Finished this week & I‘m still not sure how to rate it so going for so-do. I kept telling myself to stop reading it but then I couldn‘t & got caught up in it. I found it too long & too confusing—like the author just went for the most difficult way to say or do things (like naming characters) & I DID NOT like the ending AT ALL. It did have dark humor & I liked Gideon & a couple of the other characters grew on me. I don‘t think that is enough to ⬇️
While there were some confusing parts with too many names and secondary characters to easily keep straight, the payoff was well worth it. I plowed through this book in a way shorter time than I expected. It was so odd and unique, I just could not put it down.
We went on vacation last weekend and I visited a fun indie bookstore @johnscreekbooks in John‘s Creek, Georgia. It was the cutest store with a good selection so of course, I picked up a few things.
Then we also visited a Barnes and Noble on our way home so I could grab a copy of B. Dylan Hollis‘s cookbook. It was a good book buying week.

I couldn't get into the book at all. It was trying too hard to be edgy.
Yo! There‘s a podcast doing a reread of the Locked Tomb series!
BRB Nona is on hold for now. #BookAdjacent #Podcast

This book took a little bit of time to hook me - then I finished the second half in a day. I did almost nothing but read. Worth it!
I‘m excited to read more from this world.
Trio order going out! Name me a better trio than this 💀🗝️💀

Read the book a few years back and was on the fence but listened to the audiobook and wow was so much better, this book isn‘t for everyone it‘s a complex , descriptive sci-fi Fantasy collaboration that definitely pays off !
Unpopular opinion! I called this one a DNF after 20% read. The reasons why are many. First, it tried to be a blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and it didn't work for me. I felt it needed to be pure Fantasy. Second, the world building was lacking and it made the plot stilted. Third, hated the characters. The final nail in the coffin was the plot which was very weak. So many loved this one and I don't understand why. Sigh... Total was of my time!
I crashed way too early last night, so I missed out on these babies! It‘s currently 7am, but I‘m counting down the hours until it‘s respectable to be digging into these yummy cupcakes. 😂 #Readingsnack #EasterOMC
What a fun ride! This looks like a fantasy novel, but! It‘s actually a sci-fi And Then There Were None. All of the characters are just miserable in the beginning, but they grow on you, rather unlike the Christie novel. #pop2023 #modernretellingofaclassic
80 pages in, and this still feels like a chaotic mess. My elder kid likes this series so maybe I'll try to revisit it later, but for now I just am not feeling it.
I‘ve tried several times to get into this book, and maybe this will be the one!
(Pictured:Tonight‘s Adult DIY- we did beginning block printing. I was worried that they wouldn‘t be into it because it‘s kind of a basic intro, but the folks had a great time!)
I really enjoyed this insane compelling sci-fi fantasy about necromancy written by a mad genius.
I have no real words for this. It was beautifully written. I waited so long to read this, and I‘m wondering why. It‘s so good.
I don‘t know what it is about this book, because I genuinely feel like I should love it..l but I keep losing interest. This is the 3rd time I‘ve tried reading it and bailed. There have been some hilarious lines and I like the characters, I just continually pick up other titles rather than finishing this one. I made it 200 pages before giving up this time 🤷♀️
Wowzers!!! I didn‘t really know what to expect of this. I thought these might be too gory for me to too scary maybe ? But then I found out the author is a kiwi so I dove right in! Just LOVED the snarky tone. Such brilliant voice and humor. I didn‘t quite know what was happening sometimes but didn‘t care. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Confusing and hard to follow in some parts but still a great read. I have to admit, I started it once and it didn't really draw me in but gave it one more chance and ended up liking it a lot. A pick!
@TheAromaOfBooks This was my #BookChain read for 5th prompt.
lesbian swordswoman in space. lesbian necromancer that she has to protect but has been her archenemies her whole life. reluctant teamwork & secrets revealed. obsessed with Gideon &her sass & rage. slightly confused by all the character names & nicknames the whole time &the ending made me sob so hard my roommate heard me from another room. pretty sure I‘ll read the second one but this def more fantasy than romance so don‘t get it twisted
I love complex characters and characters in this book definitely were that xD But at the same time this book had way too many characters, and they had long names + nick names. That was overwhelming.
I loved the atmosphere but hated the writing style.
I think the plot was decent but the writing style made it feel more confusing than it otherwise would have been.

Favorite 22 Books/Series (represented by book 1 cover) of 2022!
Just finished the tagged for the #nsr22 Grimdark category. Absolutely loved it!! This & Hundred Thousand Kingdoms are easily my favorites for fantasy.
Anyone have a suggestion for a quick read in the Sword & Sorcery category? I‘d love to finish the fantasy section by the end of year.
For Sci-fi, I read these 2, plus a ton of Ruby Dixon‘s sci-fi romances which don‘t really seem to fit these categories. Might finish 1 more if I get a chance🤷♀️
What a strange world we live in... Social media now decides what books go on sale (read: are worthy). That is not a slight on this book, which I've never read. Just an observation.
I wish there was an option that would do this more justice than 'pick'. Ibwas already excited for my reread, not even half-way through the book. I will race to the bookstore to go and get myself the second book of the series, and be devastated if they dont have it.
"In the myriadic year of our Lord - the ten thousandth year of the King Undying, the kindly Prince of Death! - Gideon Nav packed her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and she escaped from the House of the Ninth."
Lots of skeletons AND skeleton monsters in this one!
#scarathlon2022 #scarathlondailyprompts #teamslaughter
It was a bit of a slow start, but the plot picks up once the bodies start falling. And I really vibed with Gideon's sense of humour 🤷♀️
Sometimes I read a book and I‘m like, “Yeah, that was really good. I liked it a lot.”
Then I reread it and I‘m all, “WHAT IS THIS COOL, PERFECT BEAUTY WITH ITS GORGEOUS ATMOSPHERE AND SNARK AND GENERALIZED AWESOMENESS AND WHY DID I NOT LOVE IT WITH EVERYTHING IN ME THE FIRST TIME BECAUSE IT. IS. EXCELLENT.”
Yeah. This‘s some good shit.
Also, Gideon Nav is still my favourite Gideon of all the Gideons. #somanygideons
4.5 stars. No; 5.
