This was the perfect read for the start of fall reading season. The less you know going into it the better, but if you want something atmospheric and chilling this is it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m pretty sure if I read this before the film I would have loved it. But I couldn‘t shake knowing the secret from my brain. I didn‘t feel the same way about Mystic River but this one was solely based on the reveal so it was just an ok for me.
I loved the way Lehane laid everything out and being in Teddys mind was unsettling. It‘s an excellent book if you don‘t know.
Up next…a new-to-me author I‘ve been wanting to read.
#bookspinbingo
The book is essentially about four days in the main character‘s life. But it won‘t take you that long to read it. This is a wonderfully paced noir novel.
Time to see the movie.
Hmmmm this is a difficult one! I don‘t watch scary movies 🎥
1) Shutter Island, it was just weird 🤷🏻♀️
2) The Northman, I was at the movie wondering wth is this and wanting to just get up and leave 😫
3) The Matrix 😳😳

Have you played @wordslinger42 @Bookgoil @ShelleyBooksie 😊
#midyearcheckin!
I have a spreadsheet, in addition to Storygraph, that I've been using to stat my reads.
So, here's some more stats for you:
24 male, 21 female, 1 compilation read.
Earliest read was 1940 and latest was 2023.
Library books was 29, ILL is 18, Kindle 1, Own books was 1 (with 2 DNF).
18 pages is the shortest and 513 pages is the longest.
Despite only reading 1 book in Jan./Feb./March, it's been a good year so far!
I inhaled this book and when I wasn't reading it I was thinking about it!
The story starts off fairly straightforward but the more you read, the more you wonder about the story being presented.
Definitely need to read more Dennis Lehane after this!
Highly recommended!
I really want to watch the movie again now!! (Also, the ending in the movie is better. 🤷 The ending here leaves you guessing as to whether he knows... actually if I hadn't seen the movie first I would have thought he didn't...and to me, that's the best part of the whole story.) I would have rated this 4 if not for that vague ending. ⚠️ ...content warning and triggers for excessive strong language, talk of suicide, racism, brief mention of rape.
Currently reading. I've always loved the movie, so this has been on my TBR for awhile. 57% and...OMG. 😮 So. Good.
@PuddleJumper here's the books that made it to the island with you. Hope you find a new favorite.

Very good. Twisty and psychological suspense although I did kind of guess what was going to happen.
“Shutter Island” by Dennis Lehane is about Marshal Edward “Teddy” Daniel and his partner, Chuck Aule who go on a fairy to Shutter Island, the home of Ashecliffe hospital for the criminally insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient, Rachel Solando (who was incarcerated for drowning her three children). Despite being kept in a locked cell under constant supervision she has escaped the hospital, But quickly things change for the worse.

An intense psychological thriller about a US Marshal Teddy and his partner who are sent to Shutter Island, where a psychiatric hospital holds the most notorious criminally insane. Among these inmates is a woman Rachel, the most dangerous on the island. On their search for Rachel, Teddy learns truths about not only the island, but also himself.
Just another great book I got for Christmas ❤️
I had to stop myself from reading this one to fast, so I enjoyed it every morning for what it takes to slowly eat a Lindor chocolate ❤️
And if you want to know: the movie is one of the best book adaptions I've seen.
@TheAromaofBooks #BookSpinBingo
I'm starting my next TBR jar pick... This is one of the exceptions where I've seen the movie before the book, so I'm curious to see the differences and similarities between the two!
Thank you for tagging me, @Buechersuechtling
1. Tagged one of them 😁
2. None at the moment.
3. Confessions of a Bookseller; How to tell if your Cat is plotting to kill you; Bündnerfleisch (Viande des Grisons - also used for the inhabitants of Grisons); Oh Cook!: 60 easy recipes that any idiot can make
I tag whoever wants to play 😊

Just a few of my many scores from my building‘s book exchange last night. Lucky me. A lovely way to finish off the weekend.
Forgot that this week started another #15books15weeks book. I‘ve read 1 out of 3 so far 😅 So here‘s my 4th week pick. We‘ll see if I ever catch up or not. Finding the motivation to read isn‘t easy.

#CreepyChristmas ☠️I like ghost stories and psychological thrillers - is it/isn‘t it real. ☠️ Before I go to Sleep ☠️Shutter Island by Dennis Lehanne ☠️ I like AHS, and old school classics like Hitchcock ☠️ No Gore ☠️ Do you believe in ghosts?
I haven't updated in a while. Sorry about that
Currently reading Shutter Island and I'm hugely enjoying it. If you haven't picked up this gem, do it. Mystery, thriller, suspense with a twist ending! #shutterisland #dennislehane #mystery #thriller #twistendings
This is a gripping story with many twists and turns and just when you think you have something figured out....you don't. This book you will think about long after the last page.
#YouNeverCanTell if you believe what they say...when the narrator can‘t be trusted (whether due to self-delusion or downright insane), and makes you question what is being told.
#MayMovieMagic
I saw the movie when it first came out (because Leonardo DiCaprio, duh), but honestly couldn‘t remember what happened.
This book is fast-paced, filled with tension and humorous banter, and it‘s creepily atmospheric. What an awesome setting... a mental institution all alone on an island in a hurricane. And holy plot twists!
The only possible explanation I have for forgetting that movie ending is that Leo is distracting as all hell. 😂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I must say I bought this book just because of the captivating cover (Leonardo Di Caprio helped too!), but it turned out to be an amazing thriller with a lot of mind games, riddles and mysteries.
If you have seen the movie, you could just as easily read the book because -as it always happens- the movie left out a lot of capital parts (although it's a really good one!).
I strongly recommend it!

#biggestplottwist. While I'll often have an inkling while reading these types of books, I never saw this coming.
#ANewChapter @vkois88 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
Books like this are why I prefer to have the actual book instead of an ebook or audiobook. I kept flipping back and forth between the pages when things started to be revealed. It‘s a great psychological thriller.
Our Thanksgiving road trip book was Shutter Island. Pretty good psychological thriller. I‘ll have to watch the movie now!
Thank you @Beatlefan129 I love it! I‘ve seen the movie and have thought about reading the book. The popcorn sounds amazing and the notebook is so cute!!!
#ReadTheMovies. #ReadTheMoviesSwap
My husband and I are watching a friend‘s kids this weekend and baby Veda here had a 5am wake up this morning 🤪 so I‘m on the struggle bus hoping that Lehane can keep me motivated. This book reads really fast and I‘m excited to see how it plays out, knowing the ending... I saw the movie years ago and remember being shocked!! This is my pick for #popsugar18 #abookmadeintoamovieyouvealreadyseen 🎥
#unpopularopinion I actually found this underwhelming. I don‘t know if it was the writing or the plot twist that I saw coming from a mile away, but I‘m a bit sad because I can‘t help but wonder if I read the same book as the rest of Litsy. This was definitely #moremehthanyeah for me. But, another #screamathon read is checked off. Longer review on my blog: https://wp.me/pKWKW-4I

I had hoped to finish this today, but time is getting away from me. Enjoying the quality time with my #readingbuddy, though. 😊

I read the first 25 pages without absorbing any of it. Does that ever happen to anyone else? I probably should have started over, but I read chapters two and three tonight and the story is finally starting to sink into my brain, so I think I‘m good to keep going forward from here, but the first chapter? Yeah...no memory of that at all. 😱
#currentlyreading #screamathon #timeforbed 😴
Possibly not a good choice for bedtime reading, but that was kind of the point. 😱 Here‘s hoping it grabs me from the beginning. #screamathon
Fingers crossed that #Bailey doesn‘t decide to bark for no reason, which she likes to do. #dogsoflitsy #pitbullsoflitsy

A Suspenseful and easy to read thriller. The book was just as good as the 🎥
It‘s been so long since I saw the movie, I can‘t remember how it ends. Sometimes forgetfulness is a good thing
This #plottwist really threw me for a loop!!! I've watched the movie but never read the book so I think it will be my selection for #popsugar2018 prompt #bookmadeintoamovieyouvealreadyseen 😄

Good book! I was expecting more psychology I guess, but I did enjoy it nonetheless & recommend it!
