For the first time ever I don‘t think I‘ll be making my challenge this year. 😭

This doesn‘t really bother because a lot of big changes happened this year, happy changes. I got a new job, went to training and just been busy. My job before I had a lot of time to read so that‘s when I did it.

How is everyone else challenge going?

BookHoarder32 Awesome! I wish I could find a new job 😩 ~ 288/100 on my challenge (made before I discovered ebooks) 😱 3w
InBooksILive I conpleted my challenge but it was only for 70 books. 293 is a huge amount of books, I would LIVE to read that many a year haha @BookHoarder32 you too with 288!! I'm so envious of you two! 😊 3w
InBooksILive 239*** 3w

Reviewsbylola I‘m not going to hit mine this year either. 😭 3w
AmyG Holy cow. It takes me years to read close to your underachievement for 2019. You‘re amazing. 3w
Branwen That is absolutely a number to be proud of! Great job! 😍 📚 3w
CBee @AmyG same! I started with 30 and was happy to get that amount. Now I‘m at 42. But I can only read one book at a time..... 🤷‍♀️ 3w
ImperfectCJ That's a really ambitious goal, and you've made quite a dent in it! I met my goal yesterday, but mine was only 100 books. 3w
Hooked_on_books I surpassed mine, but I prefer to underestimate then see how many more books I can read beyond the goal. Probably not what goodreads intends. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w
Freespirit Mine is modest at 50 and I am currently at 88%! I wish I had more time to read 🤗 3w
That-Bookish-Hiker @BookHoarder32 there was a job hiring freeze at my work and didn‘t have any new job openings for 9 years so I was stuck for so long. I was so happy to finally move onto a new part of my life. Hopefully you don‘t have to wait that long and you get a new job soon! Also congrats to you‘re reading challenge! 288 is awesome! (edited) 3w
That-Bookish-Hiker @AmyG aw thanks! I‘m just a fast reader and I generally read two books at a time, one on my kindle and then a actual book, but definitely won‘t be happening now. 3w
That-Bookish-Hiker @ImperfectCJ congrats to hitting tour goal! 3w

Don't forget the next round of voting is tomorrow!! 📚 📖

vumblereads I wish I could vote but I haven‘t read a single book in this years nominees, not one 😂 4w
Book_ish That has been me for the last three years but this year I vowed to read more new releases so that I would at least have HEARD of some of the books, lol. This year I‘ve read 20 of the nominees and own another 9! 4w

Anyone else voted? I clearly don‘t read much of the stuff that‘s popular on Goodreads, and I‘m not as genre-fluid as I thought, I‘ve read no horror, sci-fi, fantasy or romance this year!

Birdsong28 I think a few have found this. I have read some of them this year but last year I hadn't heard of some of them and the ones I had heard of was only because of Litsy. I tend to read what I like as I am a mood reader and that might be books from a few years ago ! 📚 📖 1mo
Zoes_Human I voted and did a few write-ins as well. This year is my first time voting in the Romance category as well. 1mo
Scochrane26 I voted. Some categories I didn‘t vote, but I‘ve read at least one in most categories. I also read lots of books that weren‘t published this year. Thanks to my book club & Litsy, I‘ve prob read more 2019 books this time. 1mo
Chrissyreadit I have barely read any of the books. I realized how little I‘m reading while in school. 1mo

LibrarianRyan That is SOOOOOO annoying. There are still plenyt of great books coming out in Nov and Dec. People who are ARCs should not be the only people with a chance to vote for books that are not out yet. 1mo
MelissaSue81 @LibrarianRyan - hmm. I believe that anything that comes out after November 15 gets counted for 2020.. so it‘s only a 2 week window.. 1mo

I reached my Goodreads goal early this year! I've always set my goal at 100 books and met it. But this year I didn't feel like I was in a reading zone for months at a time and I set the goal to a lower number. So I'm very happy that I got my bookish/reading mojo back this fall and reached the goal I really wanted to! DNFing books that weren't grabbing me helped. Now whatever I read is like icing on the cake. #bookstats #goodreadsgoal

Yesterday I was at a one-day conference for people who work with readers, which I had helped organize. Three years of work and everything went well. Whew! Our topic this time was Reading Under Surveillance. Heard lots of things to ponder. If you‘re interested,
our website is: http://pagesworkshop.com

Come-read-with-me @lindy - thanks for sharing. I‘m going to check it out. 2mo
Lindy @Come-read-with-me 👍I‘m feeling worn out today but satisfied with a job well done. 2mo
Come-read-with-me @lindy It looks like it was a great conference. Congratulations on a job well done!!!I remember the Old Strathcona area from when I lived in Edmonton many years ago. 2mo

Lindy @Come-read-with-me Old Strathcona is as colourful as ever. We dropped off leftover food from the conference at the nearby youth shelter and got caught in a pepper spray periphery that was part of an altercation (no law enforcement officers were present). 2mo
sprainedbrain This looks fascinating! Good work 😊 2mo
Come-read-with-me @Lindy Colourful is a great description! Hope you avoided as much pepper spray as possible. 2mo
Lindy @Come-read-with-me Yes, fortunately we were far enough away. Still made us cough a lot. 2mo

Found something new (new to me) while futzing around on the #BookStats page on Goodreads. I've been tracking all this by hand and Goodreads has had it all laid out for me. 😁 😁

Scochrane26 How do I find that? 3mo
Gezemice Yeah I found it too. Nifty. 3mo
Bookjunkie57 @Scochrane26 if you go to “my books” then “book stats” (top right) then you can pick the year and choose one of the last to options. (I can‘t remember what they are called and can‘t look right now but you should find it. ) Then float your mouse over the month you want and you should see the stats pop up. 3mo
Scochrane26 @Bookjunkie thanks! I usually just do the goodreads app but will look on the website to try this. 3mo

Prairiegirl_reading I don‘t use goodreads as a social site. Just for tracking. Thank goodness! Super creepy!!! 5mo
jillrhudy The heck? 😑 5mo
TheDaysGoBy I just got a friend request on goodreads, but the person had like no books or anything tied to their account. Don‘t know why some people think everyone will just blindly friend people on various social media sites 5mo
MaleficentBookDragon @TheDaysGoBy I got one like that the other day too. No books. 5mo
MicheleinPhilly I got one the other day from a girl that had nothing but a URL in her profile. And that URL was along the lines of sexy-pictures-of-me.com. 🙄 Like, this isn‘t a dating OR porno site, sweets. 5mo
Crazeedi I'm very careful who I friend on goodreads or anywhere . 5mo
Crazeedi @Prairiegirl_reading same with me. I just track books 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TheDaysGoBy @MalificentBookDragon Really, they must think we are dumb. Not. 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Ugh. Ridiculous. It‘s everywhere. 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Prairiegirl_reading That‘s why I ask “how do I know you?” Because sometimes I don‘t want to know you. :-p 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Crazeedi We all should be. 5mo
MicheleinPhilly Yeah, I had to lock down so many aspects of my IG account cause I was getting some weird ass messages from random dudes. I‘m so confused. When did IG become Tinder? Also, I‘m a big ass homo. 😉 5mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage @MicheleinPhilly Seriously. So annoying. I used to have a locked down IG, but I use it to promote my book blog now. So I‘m forever blocking people—all creeper guys. 5mo

At this pace I am on track for possibly beating my best year of 222 books read! I couldn‘t be happier with the material I am reading, as well as the pace. I definitely had to kick it in gear to finish June at 50%, but I did because I‘m ridiculous and weird about my GR challenge progress. 😂

mom2bugnbee 200! Wow! 👀 5mo
Lovesbooks87 My goal for the year is 200 too! 5mo
Amiable I‘m weird about it, too. That‘s why a few years ago I dropped my yearly goal down drastically (to 52). I found I was rushing through books and reaching past the chunksters that I love and grabbing for the shorter ones, just to reach an arbitrary self-imposed goal! I finally realized that I was the one putting that pressure on myself—and so I was the one who could remove it, too. 😀 (edited) 5mo

Not to brag, but I seriously underestimated how much reading time super early retirement, ARCs and access to audiobooks would contribute to my Goodreads Challenge. I am certain I can reach my goal before the end of June.

LeahBergen Whoa! That‘s awesome! 👏🏻👏🏻 6mo
BarbaraBB Super early retirement intrigues me. At what age did you stop working? 6mo
Cathythoughts Well done Julia 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 6mo
julesG @BarbaraBB I was forced to stop working full-time three years ago, at age 36. Meanwhile I have stopped working altogether. Due to health reasons, I have multiple sclerosis. As much as I "enjoy" not having to work, the financial situation worries me. And I often miss being part of a team, meeting colleagues every day. Guess that's why I'm so active on Litsy. 6mo
BarbaraBB I am so sorry to hear you have MS and were forced to give up work. Early retirement then doesn‘t sound so attractive anymore. I hope Litsy and the many books you read will give you lot of diversion (is that the correct word?) from your worries ❤️😘🙏 6mo
Velvetfur Sorry to hear about the MS Julia 🙁 But I would also like to congratulate you on your reading goal and the fact that you're smashing it 👊📚 6mo
julesG @BarbaraBB thank you! (distraction might be better) I remember being utterly shocked when my neurologist suggested I apply for early retirement about 2 years ago. I wanted to work, my kids were old enough to get along without me for a few hours and settled in school. However every time I attempted some form of regular 9-5 work, even reduced hours, my health trew lemons at me. Then started the long and rocky road to getting retirement. And, 👇 6mo
Megabooks Great job! 6mo
julesG As if right now, it's not permanent. I'll have to reapply for continuation next year. 😖😬 Somehow the health insurance companies and retirement agencies still think a chronic disease might be cured within a few months. 6mo
julesG @Velvetfur Thank you! 6mo
Susannah Oh dear, @julesG. I‘m so sorry you have to battle bureaucracies as well as your illness. That‘s just appalling.... I am very impressed by your speedy reading! I discovered audiobooks in the last few years and know I wouldn‘t read half as much without them. I love that I can engage with books even when I‘m taking care of other things (house cleaning, commutes, etc). Congratulations! 🎉💐 6mo
BarbaraBB Distraction. Of course. And too battle against health insurance companies must be challenging. Wishing you all the best with your health and your books! 6mo
julesG @Susannah Would be boring if they didn't put up all the red tape, wouldn't it? Thank you! There are craft and cooking books among those 147 read books. I review those quite often. 6mo
Deifio Wow, congrats on so many books read! What do you craft? Sorry to hear about the MS. Hope the bureaucracy isn't too bad (not like in Asterix und Obelix) 😉 6mo
jenniferw88 So sorry to hear about the MS. I would suggest coming to the UK, but the NHS isn't perfect (though it's helped me a lot - it would say that MS won't be cured in the next few months!) and Brexit problems it probably isn't a good idea! 6mo
julesG @Deifio Took me two years to eventually get the funding for a help (comes in twice a week to do cleaning, etc), because bureaucracy - that was definitely Asterix like, being sent from one office to the next and back to square one. I dabble in a lot of crafts, fibre arts (knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery,...), painting, DIY, jewellery making, wood working,... I have always liked working with my hands and love trying out new things. 6mo
julesG @jenniferw88 Without kids, I would have moved to the UK years ago. Definitely think the NHS is similar to what I get here in Germany. Kids and Brexit though, I'd better stay here for a little longer. Although both my kids said they'd come with me to the UK, their father/my ex objects. My youngest is 9.5 years old, so I might move in 9 years. They'll hopefully have sorted Brexit out by then. 😜 6mo
Freespirit Wow amazing reading year @julesG Sorry to hear about your battles with health and insurance companies. ❤️❤️ 6mo
julesG @Freespirit Thanks! Let's just say, I'm a chronic pain in the lower extremities of my case workers. 😉 6mo
Freespirit @julesG Good on you👍🏻😍 6mo
jenniferw88 @julesG 🤞 Brexit is sorted! The thing that annoys me about the NHS is that you would think transplant recipients (like me) get free prescriptions wouldn't you, but no, i get free prescriptions because of my diabetes! Makes no sense to me whatsoever - surely transplant medication is more important?! 6mo
julesG @jenniferw88 Who gets which medication free of charge is definitely not to be understood. Same here. - - - Brexit is sorted? I should watch/read the news more often. These days I only check the weather forecast, couldn't handle the drama. 6mo
jenniferw88 @julesG meant fingers crossed Brexit is sorted in 9 years' time lol! Still got to get our new PM... I don't want either but Boris will be worst! 6mo
julesG @jenniferw88 Now I get it. It seems like the choice between plague and cholera (as a German aphorism goes), re PM. That said, no matter who'll make it, no-deal Brexit sounds settled. See, drama drama drama. Can we please go back to the time before Trump in the White House and before Brexit was even an idea? Enough of this Twilight Zone. 6mo
youneverarrived Fab 👏 👏 6mo
Birdsong28 Congratulations!! I am on book 44/45 so I will be also completing mine soon. 📚📖 6mo
Amiable @julesG Amen to the suggestion that we get out of this Twilight Zone of Trump and Brexit! As an American, I am barely hanging onto my sanity. Holding on until 2020 when hopefully our national nightmare will come to an end. 6mo
