Fr good. Pure Psychological horror in written form
Book 6 read on December. What was this?? 😳I watched the movie, the old one, long time ago but this is the first time I read the book. As always Mr. King described so well the characters and the atmosphere. It was like watching everything, so dysfunctional, pathological, macabre, horrid. Do you think there are fans like that out there?🤔🫣😟
Love this old edition. 4⭐️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “She was crazy, but he needed her.” Rabid, unstable fan finds extremely drunk, injured author in snow bank, takes him home for torturous rehabilitation, forcing him to reprise her favorite character, or DIE. Terrible nurse, impeccable editor. Wilkes‘s speech patterns are hilarious considering how brutal she is. Cussing is unbecoming, but killing infants is okay. The “deus ex machina” conversation was utterly brilliant given the outcome.
Time for #ThreeListThursday presented by @dabbe !

My cockadoodie favorites from this list are:
1. Rebel Without A Cause (I LOVE James Dean 😍)
2. Misery 🪓 ⌨️ 🍷
3. Independence Day 👽

Oh man, this was something unexpected! I love the movie but I had no idea the book went so much further. Annie Wilkes is terrifying! This one had me gasping and holding my breath with some of the crazy scenes with Annie terrorizing Paul and others 🪓🔥 🐀💉
Also, about the audiobook: I listened to it here and there and at first, I hated it. Sounded boring! But as I kept listening, narrator Lindsay Crouse started sounding just like…
Sunday morning puppy snores 💤 with my book and coffee. My favorite time of the week!
I‘ve tried so hard to create characters and images in my head for this story. But no matter how hard I try, after seeing the movie many years ago, I can still only imagine Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes and James Caan as Paul Sheldon. #readingStephenKing
Heck yeah!! Started it this morning!! I‘m so excited to finally be reading Misery!
#readingStephenKing
My first foray into the genius that is Stephen King, and he had me gasping, grimacing, recoiling; a whole phantom locomotive of emotions. The palpable pity for Paul Sheldon was consuming. The descriptive writing was stomach-churning and oh-so good. Palahnuick's use of the word "rubbernecking" springs the mind; the inability to look away from a road traffic accident, though in this case, one can't look away from the page despite its grisliness.
#ScarathlonTBWList i watched this this afternoon. Another Stephen King movie from 1990 again I had never seen this. #TeamCryptKeepers
I can not believe I have NEVER read a Steven King novel before. How is that even possible?
I'll be reading this one as an ebook through Libby soon! I'm hyping it up.
Thoughts?
Myself and Dexter 🐾 (photo bombing with his paw) helped my Dad clear out his garage this morning. We stumbled across a box of old books and found this goldmine!
I'm pretty certain that's my copy of Misery that I read umpteen times in high school and even did some of my English Literature coursework based on the book!
My Dad was livid his copy of The Stand was in there as he replaced it with an expensive hardback years ago 🤣
Anyone else read Misery and think it‘d have more gore to it? (Thank goodness it didn‘t as I squirm a bit when reading gore (looking at you The Ritual)) #stephenking #misery #theritual #adamnevill
Misery came as a welcome surprise in my journey. I'd seen the movie, but hadn't read the book, and thought this would be a fairly perfunctory read with few surprises. How wrong I was. A taut, tension-filled study in captivity, Misery kept me turning the pages as quickly as I could, eager to learn the outcome of Paul's desperate efforts, or to witness each fresh horror unleashed by Annie's unraveling mind. A very delighted 5/5.
Went on a walk today and my partner and I listened to this. We are at the 🎂 part. 😖
Sunday #scarathlon movie. It‘s one of my favorites. It has all the bookish things. #TeammMonsterMash @StayCurious
My #Scarathlon2022 movie watches for the day:
Slaxx - a horror comedy about a haunted murderous pair of jeans
Misery - a rewatch of this classic, probably the best Stephen King adaptation.
#TeamMonsterMash
This is an old read and I still love it, I was 13 years-old and Misery was the first book I've read, I stayed up all that night reading it, got in trouble the next morning, was too tired to get up for school “but I never understood was she always crazy before she met him? are did the craziness come when she kidnapped him.“ 😕
And today in bookish current events... King testifies against his own publishing house to prevent the Simon & Schuster and Penguin House merger. “The more the publishers consolidate, the harder it is for indie publishers to survive," he tweeted.

Day 272.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
I did a bit of #AudioCleaning and #AudioOrganizing. So far 2 full bags of donation. I have about 2.5 loads of laundry left to whittle down too!!!

Playing a game while I was listening today. Ooo this book is one of my favorites!
So, I have read a lot of Stephen King throughout my childhood. But... I like to revisit them. (they remind me of my grandmother - who introduced me to this author and started my love of reading). I am going to revisit this one as my #AudioCommute :)

Thanks for the tag @MoonWitch94 & @ElizaMarie

3. Today I am grateful for my family and our health.
Anyone reading can play!

Misery moves a lot faster than the other Stephen King novel I‘ve read, but that‘s not surprising really, given that it‘s a third of the length and only has two central characters. Unfortunately, despite having a narrower focus, King really doesn‘t flesh out his characters as fully as you‘d hope. Maybe I‘m jaded from reading too many more recent and more intricate thrillers. The Folio Society … I have arrived 😂
This is honestly a beautiful book & one of my favorite authors!! I‘ve never read this book! Or seen the movie!
#TheFolioSociety 🖤
Thank you so much @BookwormAHN for the amazing #AllHallowsReadSwap package! Perfect choices on the books! I love the day of the dead skull box full of treats. The coffee sound yummy. I will break out this bookmark every spooky season. You are the best!
Thanks for organizing the swap, @MaleficentBookDragon
Okay, so this one started a little slow for me and I was wondering how King was going to make the plot line last for 400 pages, but then it picked up and I became engrossed in the story. FYI - there is gore in this one for anyone who doesn‘t do gore. #teamslaughter #scarathlon
I‘ve been having nausea problems recently and the pee and mop water drinking is really grossing me out! Should I continue or save it for another time? Is it more gross out horror or psychological? @BarbaraBB I know you read this fairly recently.
Only good ol‘ Uncle Stevie could write a book with only two characters and it be based in one house, and still make it horrifically gripping. I thought I knew crazy - but then I was introduced to Annie Wilkes. Yikes! I actually had to glance down at my legs whilst reading, just to make sure they were still there. I‘ve read a handful of King books, and this fares as probably my second favourite. (After IT, of course). Expectedly amazing.

I‘m READY to go to sleep 🥱 🛌 😴 💤
Wow. This book was so good! Propulsive, but a slow build too. Once I started reading, I didn‘t want to put it down. I‘m making my way through a variety of Stephen King books and this is my favorite so far, for sure. Even though I haven‘t seen the movie yet, I pictured Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes the whole time I was reading it. Great thriller. 5⭐️
Been waiting a very long time to find and buy this US Paperback version of my one number favourite SK novel. It‘s the First Signet Printing June 1988. I love the Limited Edition Cover of Misery‘s Return and hilarious that the 'hero' bears a very uncanny resemblance to SK. I can only dream of finding and owning his Secretary of Dreams Vol 1 & 2 and my SK Library is complete
A suspenseful engrossing novel by Stephen King that kept me guessing until the end. There is nothing supernatural. It is simply about the darkest and most nightmarish aspects of the human constitution. It's a very closely centred novel, focusing nearly entirely on one room of a house and two characters, yet the undeniable malice lurking behind even the most innocuous of pages ensures that it never becomes tedious or boring.
My first time reading this classic and it did not disappoint! Some twists and turns had me actually gasping or yelling “no!” out loud. I got a little bored when I had to read parts of the protagonist‘s novel and it took a bit for me to really get into the book, but the parts with Paul and Annie were captivating and I couldn‘t put the book down in the second half.
🎈 Do you have a favourite King book? Mine would probably be Misery 🎈
