The Mystery of Mrs. Christie | Marie Benedict
115 posts | 100 read | 94 to read
"December 1926: England unleashes the largest manhunt in its history. The object of the search is not an escaped convict or a war criminal, but the missing wife of a WWI hero, up-and-coming mystery author Agatha Christie. When her car is found wrecked, empty, and abandoned near a natural spring, the country is in a frenzy. Eleven days later, Agatha reappears, claiming amnesia. She provides no answers for her disappearance. That is...until she writes a very strange book about a missing woman, a murderous husband, and a plan to expose the truth. What role did her unfaithful husband play? And what was he not telling investigators? THE MYSTERY OF MRS. CHRISTIE explores one strong woman's successful endeavor to take her history into her own hands"--

Oops. I forgot to post my #12booksof2023 selection for December. This was a fun book, and we had a good discussion at book club. I can‘t really say more, because the reason I liked it is a spoiler. 😎

Honorable mention to The General and Julia, which was published in November. It was the newest book I read in 2023, and The Mystery of the Old Clock (1930) was the oldest.

With this I think I‘ve sufficiently recapped 2023. On to 2024! #wrapup

Andrew65 Excellent! Thanks for playing long, a great way to review 2023. See you for #12Booksof2024 on Christmas Day. 11mo

I finished two book club selections for #20in4 and have less than an hour left in the tagged book. I should have no problem finishing it before the meeting this week.

Last night I pulled a Christmas book from my personal shelf and read about three chapters before bailing, so I switched to a Christmas romance that also isn‘t really working for me, but we‘ll see.

My reread of Letters from Father Christmas has been more successful.

This is Benedict‘s version of Agatha Christie‘s missing 11 days, her marriage, and the future that the missing days led to. There are a few info dump moments that take away from the story but over all, it‘s an interesting take on the forever unknown story. My June #Roll100 - 3.5⭐️ - enjoyed this mystery around the very real Agatha Christie disappearance of the 1920s. My heart ached for the pain endured by our fictional A.C., but I was down for the unfolding of her self-spun mystery.

I finally finished this book last night. I did enjoy Marie Benedict's interpretation of what happened during Agatha Christie's disappearance. Not sure how much of this was fact and what was speculation, but to me it made sense. It inspired me to pick up more of Agatha Christie's books.

Great read! A nugget of a whodunit spun around the maven of mystery herself, Agatha Christie, and eleven days she was missing. Christie always refused to speak about those days, but Marie Benedict manages a very authentic voice, and spins a very engaging tale about love, loss, and self-discovery. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I was disappointed in this one even though I‘m interested in the mysterious and unresolved 11 day disappearance of Agatha Christie. I spent most the book bored and disliking the characters. Still, I‘m glad I read it as it gave me a glimpse of what could have possibly happened.

Interesting turn of events at the end to explain her disappearance, but the journey to it was quite boring and repetitive.

This took a good 50-60 pages before the story really got moving. I would‘ve dropped it but it‘s for a work book club…. I think they‘ll really like it. The mystery is interesting, she paints the husband in a terrible light (which seems fitting) and she makes sure you see that she did her research. What really happened? Don‘t know, but this is a creative idea for sure. #bookspinbingo #bookspin

I enjoyed this more than I expected! Interesting imagining on Agatha Christie‘s 11-day disappearance in 1926. You can tell the author did a lot of research on the topic, but there were still a lot of twists and turns to keep the story entertaining

Agatha Christie disappeared for 11 days in 1926. This story imagines what happened. A well researched book, though at times the author is out to prove it is well researched versus following the best narrative path. But still a fun & interesting read.

A fictional imagining of the real life disappearance of Agatha Christie in the mid 1920s. It's a fun page turner with a few jarring niggles (Benedict hasn't quite got the voices right for the English describing the weather and i'm not 100% convinced Mrs Christie would have used the term "unreliable narrator" as often as she does in this book!). But the period detail was great and Benedict creates a very plausible explanation for the mystery!

I was excited to read this fictionalized-version of what may have happened to Agatha Christie when she went missing for 11 days. It ended up being disappointing. Too contrived. ⭐⭐⭐

This novel was beautifully written! Benedict had me believing I was reading a biographical account of Agatha Christie's life and tragic downfall of her marriage. The pages left me wanting to research intricacies of her life even further and inspired me to pick up my own pen and begin writing!

This was really only a so-so for about 95% of the book to me. The days after Christie‘s disappearance focused on her jerk of a husband and were just annoying while I found the flashbacks rather dull. And then the end hit and that made everything worth it.

This historical fiction explores the eleven days in 1926 when Agatha Christie went missing. Even to this day no one knows what happened nor why. Agatha and Archie‘s relationship takes center stage in this narrative. The pieces begin to fall into place presenting an intriguing story that kept me turning the pages and marveling at the end.

I never knew about the real life disappearance of Agatha Christie, and this novel did a great job of weaving in the fictional reason why she disappeared. A novel about a woman finding her way through betrayal on the strength of her own intelligence and resolve.

I have shockingly never read an Agatha Christie book. After reading this book though I definitely want to read some. Christie disappeared for 11 days in 1926 & this story was a fictional account of why she disappeared. It portrays Christie as a woman who was scorned by her husband but came out as a stronger person. Which Christie seemed to be an extremely smart & resilient woman. #bookspin

5-19-21: My 51st finished book of 2021! In December of 1926, Agatha Christie went missing. She was gone for 11 days. Throughout her life she never spoke of it. In this fictional account, Marie Benedict created a timeline of possibilities of what may have happened leading up to her disappearance and what happened when she was found. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📖#️⃣5️⃣1️⃣ #themysteryofmrschristie #mariebenedict #agathachristie

Marie Benedict is one of my top fave authors who created this very likely possibility of the unsolved disappearance of Agatha Christie in December of 1926. Many speculations... Agatha went to the grave never speaking about those 11 haunting days. I could have finished this book sooner, but I kept googling news clippings and watching YouTubes of her. My"To Be Read" stack just got taller now that I'm adding some of her mystery novels to it?
