Surprised by how good this book starts off! Never read it. Sorta saw some of the movies but wasn‘t really into it. I‘m totally intrigued!
"look I didn't want to be a halfblood"
Actually finished this one awhile back, but never posted. This was my second time reading this book, and I enjoyed it more this time. I find Riordan‘s writing somewhat juvenile - works great in this series, not so well in his adult mystery series. I always loved mythology as a kid, so the premise hooked me. Looking forward to completing the whole series with my son.
The Lightning Thief is a fun read! What a ride!
Percy Jackson‘s life is about to turn upside down when he learns he is not just a kid, but the son of the god, Poseidon! And his best friend is no regular kid either - he is Percy‘s keeper, and oh! half goat!
Adventurous and entertaining. I think this would make for a fantastic read aloud for upper elementary school students. Definitely appreciated how so many gods‘ stories were included.
I'm so glad I finally read this. Yes, there is some less mature writing since the intended age is younger, but it was still incredibly entertaining. I love the detail of the Greek mythology & the somewhat flippant attitude of the writing made things both interesting & fun. The overall mystery wasn't obvious, but clues allowed the reader to discern the ending if they paid close enough attention. I will definitely be continuing on with the series.
Another book I missed out on as a child. Just starting The Lightning Thief. I am really enjoying the mythology behind it so far.
I‘m so unaware of this series, I honestly don‘t even know what is going to happen!
“it's funny how humans can wrap their mind around things and fit them into their version of reality.“
My 9yo has decided to read the book! Yay! She‘s one chapter in and loving it!
However, it was not my reading it that convinced her to read it. It was my idea to draw pictures for books that had none that convinced her (she prefers comic type chapter books and she LOVES to draw and has been running out of ideas). She was immediately excited about it!
Stay tuned for some bookish fan art! 😁
I read the book to try to encourage my 9yo to read it too (it‘s her book). I ended up really liking it! I‘m a huge fan of Greek myth and fictional retellings so this was right up my alley. The characters were fun and sarcastic for 12yos which I really appreciate (pretty sure my 9yo and Annabeth have much in common lol). Now I‘m tempted to read more of the series. It‘s was an easy read for me and probably for middle graders as well.
I really enjoyed this! It was a fun and entertaining read, I can see why kids love this series. I‘ll definitely be reading the others soon.
And this fulfills my last prompt for the #MGME portion of #BBRC (cover change mid-series). I‘ll be updating my google form tomorrow, on to #teenangst!

Sleepy kitty stole my blanket when I got up to make lunch. #HelloKitty #catsofLitsy 🙀
I‘m only a few chapters in, but I can already see why this is an enduring, hugely popular series! I feel like I‘m the only person who hasn‘t read it. 😂 I may just lay around and read it the rest of the afternoon!
I read this before and was so-so on it. The writing is not sophisticated, and Percy‘s ADHD behavior bugged the hell out of me. But now I have a first-grader who‘s diagnosed ADHD...lots more sympathy for Percy. I am reading this aloud with my kid at bedtime, and he‘s loving it. The writing is actually perfect for a kids‘ book. (It‘s not for every first-grader, more of a middle-grade book, but my kid is pretty advanced.)
My daughter got this for Easter, tried to read it then got bored maybe? Idk. She loves Greek myths, so I‘m hoping if I read it first and talk it up a bit she might give it an honest shot. We shall see!
My reluctant model is my daughter‘s cat, Flower. 🌸
Finally read this and I found it to be entertaining. I watched the movie so I kept going back to that. I thought the changes made in the movie made sense for that medium, but I did enjoy seeing more characters in the book.
#MiddleGrade: Cover Change MID Series
This was such a fun adventure book. I highly enjoyed the action and characters. I loved the modern take of the Greek mythology as well. Can't wait to read more of Percy Jackson in the future. 4 out of 5.
My son read this series when he was much younger. He recommended I read it. I really enjoyed book #1!!
Finished this book with my boys tonight. Tomorrow night we will start on book 2!
See Goodreads for my full review.
I've been reading this book to my boys for the past few weeks. We read a chapter (two if they're short) a night, before bed. I've never read this series before, but my husband bought me them all, knowing I've wanted to read them for YEARS.
So this will be for the "On your TBR the longest" slot on my 2019 #ReadingChallenge.
My boys are really enjoying it too. They look forward to listening to it every night. Which brings me SO much joy.
[#BookReview] Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. It‘s been so long since I read this series that I remember almost nothing! So re-reading it seemed like a fun idea and so far it has been! I really enjoyed this re-read and it makes me excited to continue the series and finally branch out to the spin offs. 📖🌊🧜🏼♂️
Sorry if this has popped up numerous times before, but it gave me a good chuckle on this mundane Monday morning.
This was the first time I had read this and I loved it! Percy learns so many things about himself and his friends during this book. It is very fast pace and sucks you in from the beginning! Definitely will be checking out this series!
Snagged from Prime Day 😍They also gave me a one time book coupon for $5 (wink wink hint hint) so it was only $13 at checkout! 🙌🏻
I liked reading it! I loved the adventurous tone in the book and all the myths in the story. I will read the next Percy Jackson book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if you enjoy middle grade that is made to entertain all ages and you‘ve been putting off the Percy Jackson books, you must put whatever you are reading aside and start them! They are really fun and entertaining. I love the mix of Greek mythology mixed with the modern world. Quick read! #percyjackson
Alright so I got smart and decided to jump into Percy Jackson and oh I loved this way more than the Apollo Trials. The writing tone is completely different from this series to the latest series. This has a much more mature feel to it with no cringy jokes which I appreciate so much. The monsters were great, the story pacing perfect. I can‘t wait to read the rest of it. I did cry at one point and I appreciate a book that can make me cry.
I‘ve been flying through this series, and I‘m excited to start The Last Olympian! I‘ve been extremely impressed with this series, and I can‘t wait to see how the story unfolds from here!
If anyone was still wondering about getting the Percy Jackson tumbler from the Bookish Box, they have them in stock in their shop and have a sale this weekend for 20%!

I‘ve seen the movie before, but never read the book, so I thought I‘d give the audiobook a shot. It was a fun quick read, and a cool way to spin Greek mythology into a new story. While I enjoyed it, I‘m not sure I‘ll continue with the rest of the series. It was fun, but I‘m definitely much older than its intended audience, lol.
Wow, I haven't put my drawings on here in awhile.
This was a drawing I got the idea for while reading The Dark Prophecy. The lyrics are from Living Louder by The Cab.
