My 12yo loves this series so I thought I‘d try it. I didn‘t really love it, but I found myself looking forward to putting the audiobook on and listening.

This book has been on my TBR for a couple years and I final read it! It was wonderful!
Percy Jackson is a 12 year old boy who has been kicked out of every school he has attended. He has ADHD and is dyslexic, plus weird things keep happening around him. Turns out he is a half-blood; part mortal, part God. This leads him to Half-Blood camp and eventually on a quest to keep the Gods from starting a huge fight!

I just started this series with my kids and it was a huge hit with the 10 and 12 year old crowd! I enjoyed it too - it‘s always fun to see a reimagining of the classic myths. We had studied mythology before reading this so they got excited when they recognized the gods and monsters as they showed up in the story. It‘s a fun read and my kids can‘t wait to start the next one.

mabell I loved this! I haven‘t read any further yet on the series, but I intend to! 3w

Actually finished this one awhile back, but never posted. This was my second time reading this book, and I enjoyed it more this time. I find Riordan‘s writing somewhat juvenile - works great in this series, not so well in his adult mystery series. I always loved mythology as a kid, so the premise hooked me. Looking forward to completing the whole series with my son.

The Lightning Thief is a fun read! What a ride!

Percy Jackson‘s life is about to turn upside down when he learns he is not just a kid, but the son of the god, Poseidon! And his best friend is no regular kid either - he is Percy‘s keeper, and oh! half goat!

Adventurous and entertaining. I think this would make for a fantastic read aloud for upper elementary school students. Definitely appreciated how so many gods‘ stories were included.

NovelGirl82 This and the follow-up (HOO) are some of my fave series & re-reads! 3mo
Lucy_Anywhere This series is always my recommendation for reluctant middle school readers! 3mo

I'm so glad I finally read this. Yes, there is some less mature writing since the intended age is younger, but it was still incredibly entertaining. I love the detail of the Greek mythology & the somewhat flippant attitude of the writing made things both interesting & fun. The overall mystery wasn't obvious, but clues allowed the reader to discern the ending if they paid close enough attention. I will definitely be continuing on with the series.

Happy Saturday!

Another book I missed out on as a child. Just starting The Lightning Thief. I am really enjoying the mythology behind it so far.

I‘m so unaware of this series, I honestly don‘t even know what is going to happen!

Christine I‘m reading this for the first time, too (aloud, with one of my kids at his bedtime) and really enjoying it! 3mo
CafeMom I did not read these as a kid either. I read this book with my book club. I enjoyed it. 3mo

My 9yo has decided to read the book! Yay! She‘s one chapter in and loving it!

However, it was not my reading it that convinced her to read it. It was my idea to draw pictures for books that had none that convinced her (she prefers comic type chapter books and she LOVES to draw and has been running out of ideas). She was immediately excited about it!

Stay tuned for some bookish fan art! 😁

LibrarianRyan Cool idea! Just FYI in case you didn't know, there is an illustrated edition of this book and I think they just completed the graphic novel series to match. 3mo
QuoteQueen @LibrarianRyan I knew there was an illustrated version, but had no idea there was a graphic novel series. I‘ll have to look into that! Thanks! 3mo
LibrarianRyan @QuoteQueen yeah. They took a few years off between the last book or two, but I think they finally finished the series. 3mo

I read the book to try to encourage my 9yo to read it too (it‘s her book). I ended up really liking it! I‘m a huge fan of Greek myth and fictional retellings so this was right up my alley. The characters were fun and sarcastic for 12yos which I really appreciate (pretty sure my 9yo and Annabeth have much in common lol). Now I‘m tempted to read more of the series. It‘s was an easy read for me and probably for middle graders as well.

I read this before and was so-so on it. The writing is not sophisticated, and Percy‘s ADHD behavior bugged the hell out of me. But now I have a first-grader who‘s diagnosed ADHD...lots more sympathy for Percy. I am reading this aloud with my kid at bedtime, and he‘s loving it. The writing is actually perfect for a kids‘ book. (It‘s not for every first-grader, more of a middle-grade book, but my kid is pretty advanced.)

I've been reading this book to my boys for the past few weeks. We read a chapter (two if they're short) a night, before bed. I've never read this series before, but my husband bought me them all, knowing I've wanted to read them for YEARS.

So this will be for the "On your TBR the longest" slot on my 2019 #ReadingChallenge.

My boys are really enjoying it too. They look forward to listening to it every night. Which brings me SO much joy.

Alright so I got smart and decided to jump into Percy Jackson and oh I loved this way more than the Apollo Trials. The writing tone is completely different from this series to the latest series. This has a much more mature feel to it with no cringy jokes which I appreciate so much. The monsters were great, the story pacing perfect. I can‘t wait to read the rest of it. I did cry at one point and I appreciate a book that can make me cry.

ReaperOfTerrasen Rick Riordan is my first read. I only got hooked on books October 2015, randomly came across Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard. Was intrigued so I randomly bought it. Loved it so I bought more of his stuff, starting with Percy Jackson. Expanded from there, Sarah J Maas was my intro to YA Fantasy. Those two authors are my origin story. 3d
