so-soWanted to read this because I learned about it while reading Julie Andrews‘ autobiography. It has Roald Dahl/BFG and Alice in Wonderland vibes with the fantastical creatures in a land accessible only by imagination. Three children siblings and a professor are the protagonists. I‘m not sure if I would have liked it more as a kid for the first time.

Reminded me of Narnia and Oz, with the mystery and imagination needed. The professor gave me stranger danger at first, but grew on me. I love the many examples of how you can use your imagination to get through anything. I.e. bullies, hard times. The writing style is not a favorite, but it works well and simple for children. Challenge them to look up more, observe more.
In this sweet story, Ben, Tom, and Lindy Potter learn all about Whangdoodleland, a place that can only be reached through the #imagination. #SeptemberSenses

I was looking through my childhood bookshelf recently, and this one of many #badcovers stood out to me for #riotgrams day 21. This is such a great book, and it's written by Julie Andrews. But. That cover. I just can't.
pickHow can anyone resist reading a book written by Julie Andrews? And about Whangdoodles no less! It's a sweet reminder to cherish the power of our imagination and steer clear of anyone who tries to squelch it. Hurray for Andrews who also proudly supports libraries, books and reading. "Words, wisdom, wonder. There is no greater gift we can give children." I'd much rather see a movie about these fanciful creatures than a remake of Mary Poppins. ?
How cool to find a stockpile of books at the local farmer's market. Rock on, Vista Book Exchange! I brought these 2 gems home along with my spinach, feta & artichoke hummus. 😁

When my boys where little my son checked this out of his school library and had me read it to him. He loved it so much he talked about it all the time. BONUS, Julie Andrews of Marry Poppins fame wrote it. My rating? I like it so much I bought it.
Inspired by Julie Andrews being on tv tonight (Mary Poppins, which is my favorite movie), I remembered this lovely book. It's my vote for #shouldbeamovie. Can you imagine the animation and special effects that could be done when creating this world? This also just moved up my reread list. #seasonsreadings2016
