We don‘t have a Great War in our generation, or a Great Depression, but we do, have a Great War of the spirit. We have a great revolution against the culture. The Great Depression is our lives. We have a spiritual depression.
What a great effing book!!! And similar to my feelings after reading The Bell Jar for the first time earlier this year, I have a hard time putting into words what makes it so great. Yet here I still sit in the afterglow with a book hangover. 5⭐️
The #audiobook is excellent btw! Definitely going to watch the movie tonight.
#jamminjune @Eggs #surpriseending here for sure, but I won‘t spoil it. Besides, you‘re not supposed to talk about Fight Club.
My first Palahniuk! Found this about a year ago at a Goodwill for a quarter - it has definitely seen better days. Personally there‘s nothing I hate more (besides dog earing pages) than movie book covers but I couldn‘t pass it up for that price. And before anyone asks, no I haven‘t seen the movie (GASP!) and yes I am reading the book first (DOUBLE GASP!) and yes I will watch the movie (SIGH...)
Any Palahniuk fans out there?
Could be confusing. But is brilliant. Glad I saw the movie first, as it helped to understand what was panning out. Looking forward to the graphic novel Fight Club 2.
So I broke my own rule and watched the movie before reading the book... I was surprised by all the similarities, but more shocked by the ending. Both are visceral and unsettling to the very end.

Repost for @BarbaraBB :
Thank you all for participating in #90sSpringFling. It was so much fun to see how we all over the world lived our lives through the 90s, listened to the same music and dressed the same way.
The Fight Club buddy read has really taken the book to new level. @Cinfhen thank you for organizing. I hope you had a great wedding party. 💕
Next will be a #BelowZer00s buddy read (& party 🎉🎈), Jan 10-12. Details will follow! 😘❤️
I saw the movie ages ago so I don‘t remember the details. Definitely going to rewatch now. Because this book was totally crazy. I‘m not sure I really liked it but I did keep reading to the end. I‘ve read some weird stuff but this might be the weirdest...
This, to me, is a crucial takeaway. Today, in real life, there's no Project Mayhem as such, but the angry people referred to here exist. They vote for Trump and Brexit, they become school shooters or stab people in the street, or they run off to join Daesh. The discontent of the disenfranchised and disillusioned is real and destructive.

#90sspringfling Just did a simple workout and realized Alanis Morissette is definitely Fight Club sound track material. She so 😡! 😂
It makes me sad to say, but I bailed. I got to page 50 and just didn‘t care. Which is crazy to me because his holy trinity for me is Choke, Haunted, and Invisible Monsters. I loved those books. And even liked his books Snuff, Runt, and Beautiful You. Maybe it was wrong time, wrong book.
Fight Club is raw and grotesque and scattered and haunting. Is it wrong to say I liked it? I‘ve seen parts of the movie over the years, so had an idea what to expect. At its core, this book spoke of damaged and troubled people, whether through illness or through society. If you get really deep, it could be a look at society as a whole.
Thanks for getting me to read this, @Cinfhen ! Looking forward to the discussion, @BarbaraBB ! #90sSpringFling
The movie was better than the book for me! Either Palahniuk's writting style is 1 that translates best to me visually on screen rather than the page. Or perhaps I've seen the movie so many times I was bored & easily distracted while reading it but that could have been cause I knew what was coming next. #90sSpringFling w/90's 🎶 theme Billy Idol had to be in📸

As ridiculous as I find the idea of people wanting to knock the crap out of each other for fun 🤦🏼♀️ I did enjoy this book. Palahnjuk's writing is very action packed with I really enjoyed. There was a major spoiler which even if I hadn't seen the movie first, I think I would have still figured out. I'm looking forward to our discussion. #90sSpringFling
@Cinfhen @BarbaraBB
I waited until the last minute to start this one. Luckily there is the #24b4monday going on and I plan on finishing this for #90sSpringFling discussion tomorrow. 😅
#90sspringfling @Cinfhen I‘m on the left- it was the only 90s pic I could easily locate. My mom put us through a significant time period of matching sweat suits and bowl cuts. This is probably circa 95-97.
I really tried to read this book but I couldn‘t get into it. 😟 I think I‘m too old? And since I was always the one with the camera
(Pre selfie days) this is the only 90‘s photo I could find of me. The nice thing is - you can see the heinous way I dressed my daughters! 🤦🏼♀️ and some of my relatives really rocked the 90‘s look! 🤩

Talk about walking through the mind of a messed up individual. I have to say I loved every bit of this insane ride
Yeah, no, not for me 🙅♀️ I‘m not that squeamish but this was too much, too violent, too graphic, trying too hard. The writing style annoyed me and kept me from immersing myself in the story. The story itself is interesting, but not enough to really make me care.
I‘m excited for the discussion and the #90sSpringFling party, though! 🙌
Also, definitely work for take a #WalkontheWildSide #MarchIntothe70s
Looking at individual pages, most of the time I was like wtf am I reading? But, after finishing the whole thing, I think I liked it! Excited to discuss! #90sSpringFling
Such a change of pace from Milkman, I flew through this one. It's strange and disturbing and I can't decide how literally I should take it. How much was real and how much hallucination? I can't say I liked it, but it was a bit like people say about a car crash - hard to look away from. Looking forward to the party @Cinfhen 😘 #90sSpringFling
So it begins...👊🏻 #90sSpringFling
Getting ready for #90sSpringFling
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I found this book strangely brilliant and disturbing - thought provoking “ We are the middle earth of history taught by Television “ we live in a time of “ spiritual depression “
“ You were fighting everything you hated in your life “ ... and you just had
“A near life experience “
I don‘t know if I can even process this for awhile ... but I know it was a memorable experience 👍🏻

I liked the lyrical prose of this book, but I didn‘t much care for the plot or characters. The #audiobook is well narrated. I‘m looking forward to the discussion! #90sspringfling #buddyread
Special thanks to Hal Sparks for ruining the twist on I 💜 the 90s!
What am I even reading???? @Cinfhen are you sure you know what you have gotten us into??? #90sSpringFling #buddyread

Just picked it up from the library! What is our hashtag again? I know it has something to do with the 90s. We‘re discussing at the end of the month right?
Happy Sunday, y‘all 🥰 After spending last night at Supercross Atlanta, I am ready for some peace and quiet!
