Deanna Raybourn is so fun! This series is breezy, fun, funny, and little sexy.

1. 😊or😂 probably.
2. Currently the tagged book as I find the wit and humor of the FMC hysterical 🤣

#Two4Tuesday (on Wednesday)
Veronica Speedwell book #2 where she and Stoker team up to solve another mystery and save a possibly innocent man from hanging. I just adore these books. The banter between Veronica and Stoker is amazing. 4 stars.
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I believe it is even better than the first.
I don‘t know how it came about, but we had the author at our (zoom) meeting a couple years ago when we discussed the tagged book. She was gracious, down to earth, and hilarious. #sundayfunday
I had almost forgotten how much I enjoyed this character and her stories. A feminist mystery set in Victorian England? Yes please! Highly recommended.
Another entry on my #bookspinbingo. One benefit to having an ear infection: I've gotten a LOT of reading finished. Only one more book for a bingo!

Still in love with the banter, still enjoying this murder-mystery-solving duo, still interested in continuing the series.
I will say: 1) Hoping next book will have animal-friendly expedition/adventure OUTSIDE London considering these are WORLD TRAVELERS. 2) This series remains the exception to my rule of avoiding most historical (and monarchical) fiction as they ALL feature irritating, antiquated social mores, that can't always be flouted.
New word alert! Or at least new to me. Context cues work, but, I like looking words up.
"Cavil" : 'to raise trivial and frivolous objection'.
Hard to tell with historical fiction set in another country, whether this is a word that was more in use at an earlier time, or is in current day use, but not where I live.
Considering book's UK setting, I now wonder if British actor Henry Cavill (two L's) got any guff as a kid, given the homonym. ?
Chapter 1, Page 1 and the snark has already started. I LOVE this series.
2nd in the series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first. This is such a fun adventure, and the Veronica/Stoker dynamic is absolutely the best kind of slow burn! I look forward to diving into a few more of these this summer! And even better, I just got my older daughter to read the first one while I was reading this. Then she impatiently had to wait for me to finish book 2 and hand it over 😁
I‘m enjoying my reread of this series. I‘m starting to like it more on audio. I had mixed feelings when listening to the first one.
I like seeing the beginning of Stoker and Veronica‘s relationship again.
I‘ll continue with my reread of these books. So relaxing to listen to.
I read the first book in this series ages ago and for some reason didn‘t pick up the second, though I meant to. Finally got back to it and it was a refreshing blend of mystery, romance, and humor! I loved it.
Thank you so much, Chelle! I can‘t wait to read this series and the chocolate looks yummy. I‘ve never heard of Gertrude Hawk chocolates but can‘t wait to try it. Also, thank you for hosting the swap! I hope you have a wonderful evening of reading and chocolate, too! Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 🤶

The most #mischievous person associated with this book is the author! She attended our book club meeting and was very down to earth and chatty. I told her that the line “while Stoker energetically buffed his crocodile” nearly made me spit out my tea, and she just smiled slyly and said he was really just buffing his crocodile.🐊

Sometimes books just come into your life at just the right time... this was one of those reading experiences. This Victorian sleuth is witty, sexually adventurous and forthright. She speaks her mind, is ambitious and has fun with people. It was a good, page turning diversion from real life!
My heads been full for the last week or so - lots going on. This is the perfect way to try to focus.
This is my second reading of this series and I love the humor in this book in particular. These books make me happy and cheerful. They are so great!

37 of 2021. Day 2 of #marvellousmarchreadathon. This is my first book I‘ve finished. Still loving Stoker and Veronica‘s banter. Fun read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This meme came up in my Facebook memories lately. Aside from the unfortunate inclusion of Kevin Spacey, I appreciate the sentiment.

Set in London, 1887. “At the Curiosity Club, a ladies-only establishment for daring and intrepid women, Speedwell meets the Lady Sundridge, who begs her to take on an impossible task—saving society art patron Miles Ramsforth from execution. Ramsforth, accused of the brutal murder of his mistress, Artemisia.”
Veronica and her “sidekick”, Stoker, are on the case! I can‘t get enough of Raybourn‘s Victorian mysteries.
Second in the series and it‘s great fun to read. Veronica Speedwell is imperturbable in the face of danger; she‘s witty, and strong-minded. Great, amusing characters and I‘ll definitely continue this historical mystery series.
7 hours down in the #24B4Monday readathon and book 2 is finished! I‘m doing...not great in terms of hours but I‘m enjoying myself! Plus, the second book in the Veronica Speedwell series is a delight! I loved getting more insight into Stoker‘s past and cannot wait to read the third!
Thanks for the tag @sprainedbrain

This series is so fun. Forward-thinking lepidopterist Veronica Speedwell doesn‘t fit in well with Victorian Society, and neither does her partner, Stoker. When a member of the royal family asks/demands Veronica‘s help to save an innocent man from the gallows, she sets out on a perilous undertaking that could be her last... But of course it won‘t be 😁.
On to book 3!
Also, Angele Masters gives a fantastic audio performance.
You're all probably tired of seeing my sewing attempts by now. 😉
Here's the second one. Shorter, no hood but a wide turtleneck.
I've listened to the rest of book 1 in the Veronica Speedwell series and have started #Audiosewing to book 2. I am fairly sure I could make another three sweaters will listening to the series. 😉
Oh god, can they get together yet?
Another pacy adventure which goes all kinds of places. Veronica still makes me think of Phryne a lot; the backcover has a blurb calling her unflappable and unrepentant, and that about sums both of them up.
I read most of this in the bath in one fell swoop, which was an excellent way to enjoy it.
This, the second of the Veronica Speedwell stories, was great fun.
Stoker and Veronica are tasked by the Princess Louise to save a man who has been convicted of murder. Secrets, as always, compound the task. In the process we spend time with the patrons and creators of the 19th C art scene, enter and investigate the Elysian Grotto (rated R+), repeatedly right an upended tortoise, and meet Lady Wellie. And their relationship grows stronger.
I liked this book even more than the first one. I guessed the killer pretty early but the relationship building between Stoker and Veronica is so lovely.
Delightful! I loved spending time with Veronica and Stoker again! Can‘t wait to tackle the third one!

I absolutely love these books! Veronica and Stoker have such an incredible chemistry that is touching in moments and laugh out loud in others! Quickly becoming one of my favorites!
As a caution, Veronica, the main character, is very in touch with her sexuality which comes up often throughout the book. There are not explicit acts described, but much of the book revolves around this topic. Just to know as you decide whether it's the book for you!
These books are just so much fun. I love Veronica and Stoker so much!
I liked this even better than the first book, so I‘m really looking forward to the rest of the series.
Next in this series!😍
There‘s a nice breeze today, so we‘re doing nap time under the maple tree. This may or may not be my excuse to avoid doing anything productive while she sleeps...
I loved Veronica & Stoker even more in the witty 2nd installment in this mystery series! The dialogue danced & the chemistry sizzled. I really enjoyed delving into the 19th century European art world too, which made for an engaging, if a teeny bit predictable, whodunnit. This seems like one of those series where each book gets better than the last — so I‘m excited to see where we go next! ★★★★☆.
#currentlyreading | only 15% in and I‘ve already laughed so hard my stomach almost cramped 😂♥️
Last day of work (aside from a meeting tomorrow) and I am just waiting out the clock until 3pm. Then I‘m celebrating with a couple friends by heading to Buffalo for a concert!
It's the kind of day that needs my last Dragon's Blood Skull Bomb.
Friday can't come fast enough!

Total comfort read. Some days are just crushing with life and although I have several reading obligations I just needed a Dr Pepper, bowl of popcorn and this book. And lots of hugs from my teens. This was a perfect read to distract and feel better. Luckily today is a new day. And why yes, I did get the next book just in case.
The second book in the series is even better than the first one with its grottoes, and glass blown toys, sheep's eyeballs, and corpses mixed with tongue-in-cheek Victorian sensibilities. Deanna Raybourn used the first Veronica Speedwell book to warm up and she's really coming into her own. These books make me happy and cheerful. Stoker and Veronica are my current favorite literary "not-couple" so far.
Gonna just attempt to cram another book in tonight...sleep is stupid and overrated anyway
