Two more titles done in my current reading series.
pickOnly a little behind on my #NancyDrewBR book! Finally picked this one up to see Nancy‘s next adventure. This one has her traveling to Maryland to help out some random person. Also, I‘m going to have to go read @Librarybelle posts because I think this is the first time I‘ve noticed they describe Bess as a bigger girl and really enjoying foo and then continued to point out every time she wanted to eat..

Another good installment in the Nancy Drew series. This one had a lot of excitement and danger, with kidnappings and near drownings, but also some unpleasant abusive behaviour from the villains. Fortunately, Nancy brings them to justice in the end.

Lots of noggin knock outs, a rock star, some kidnapping and acrobatic record pirating crooks make up the plot for this Nancy Drew mystery. I always enjoy our discussions makes reading these all the more entertaining.

Another thrilling romp with Nancy, George, Bess, and even the boys this time! Lots of noggin-knocking and kidnapping in this one--plus some cruelty to children--a surprise for these usually benign books. Many mysteries are woven throughout the story, and they all mesh beautifully together in the end--thanks to our super-sleuth and her friends! Note: the boys need to learn how to cook!
pickI'm in New York City for a few days for work, and finished this tonight in my hotel room. I felt like the writing was choppy starting out. Carson Drew basically says, "Go to this cabin and solve the mystery. Take Bess and George." And then we're off to the races with just about everybody but Bess getting a concussion at some point! It was a fun read, once they left River Heights.

I enjoyed this one too. Fun adventure with the brave, clever sleuth and her loyal, capable friends.
pickIn this Nancy Drew story even more things happen alongside each other. It seems like we are going to head towards an overkill in the next stories. 😜 But this time the plot lines were somehow far better connected than in the last stories. Some parts are still pretty unlikely though.

Later Nancy Drew novels allude to River Heights being located near Chicago, and older novels suggest a Midwest location (according to a source I read). It seems a pretty far drive for Carson to send Nancy to ready a cabin in 1965!

5. Of course, in the 1965 edition, Nancy has her friends Bess and George, along with an appearance from Ned and his gang. We also meet Cecily, Niko of The Flying Dutchmen, and the bad Driscolls. The Driscolls are modeled from the 1934 Blairs.
Both editions feature violence towards small children, which I honestly was surprised to see!

4. Let's talk about the book's adventures. Think about the moments of peril for Nancy and her friends in the edition you read. Does one particular moment of peril stand out for you?
For instance, in the 1965 edition, there seems to be a lot of noggin knockouts! It seemed harsh for the Driscolls to roll a log and throw rocks at Nancy and her friends. These poor characters must have some seriously hard heads (and a lot of migraines)! #NancyDrewBR
3. The 1965 edition includes a family treasure hidden away in the American Civil War era. Yes, Maryland was a northern state, but barely...during the war, it was considered a “border“ state that still allowed enslavement, despite the northern stance of no slavery.
Nancy not only has to help Cecily with this mystery, but she discovers record piracy taking place.

2. The 1934 edition is written by Mildred Benson, who wrote the first several ND books we read. I did not read this one, but the plot line involves a very controversial topic: child snatching and later adopting out those children. This is written during the Depression, and from what I know, this happened. I immediately thought of Lisa Wingate's book “Before We Were Yours“!

1. This month's discussion is slightly different, as the plot lines for the original and the revised editions are extremely different. Questions 2 and 3 will look at the 1934 and 1965 editions respectively.
Which edition did you read? The 1934 plot line features twins adopted from a foundling home, and Nancy wants to reunite the twins with their real mother.
The 1965 edition has The Flying Dutchmen, an iron bird, and record piracy. #NancyDrewBR

pickI almost forgot about reading Nancy Drew this month! Lots of danger in this one, with several Noggin Knockouts, although this time it‘s not Nancy‘s noggin that takes a beating. 😂 The mysteries here were clever and I liked how they came together. This may be my favorite to date. Random thought: I don‘t remember the plots or titles of the ones I read as a kid, I remember this cover! #nancydrewbr

pick4✨ I was on the last chapter when the bell rang for lunch to be over. Ugh! Luckily, after school I made the time to finish. Nancy was in more danger in this one. Two halves of a necklace, pirated records, and a mysterious look alike to a new friend cause a lot of questions for this young sleuth. This was a lot of fun to read. #NancyDrewBR @Librarybelle

pickI enjoyed this one better than #10. There was a amount of action. The ending was a little farfetched, but it's a kids' book. I liked how the guys were involved in this one, too. 4 stars.

I did wonder how much they pack to go on these little excursions. I counted 4 times Nancy's outfit was dirtied/ ruined, twice for George, once for Cecily, and once for Ned/Burt/Dave. No mention of them doing laundry, of course! 😉

Read for #NancyDrewBR I read an extra 15 minutes & finished this during #HyggeHour last night. Book 11 in the series, I read the 1965 version which apparently differs completely from the 1934 addition. This one has Nancy, Bess & George traveling to Maryland asked by her father (who gets around with the cases) to drop off a key for a young woman renting the cottage. There‘s sightings of a ghostly⬇️
I love the confidence and trust Mr Drew always shows in Nancy (especially as these books were written so long ago) but I do think I'd have tried to get more information before sending my 18 year old to another state to investigate *something*! #NancyDrewBR

I‘m so excited! Apparently the version I ordered from Thrift Books is a 1934 copy, and someone wrote in it! (Then someone‘s grandma crossed it out and gave it to Katie but whatever.) Looking forward to next month‘s #NancyDrewBuddyRead
As I don't already have the 1930s version of our next #NancyDrewBR and it sounds pretty different from the 60s version I decided to try to find one. Googling led me to this listing on Amazon marketplace so I went for it. What arrived yesterday was the book on the far left which is the same version as the one I've had since childhood. Except it's a newer release with a slick cover I don't like the feel of. I'm pretty annoyed. 😠

Whenever I do a collage puzzle, I get a kick out of seeing which book cover or poster or whatever comes together first. THE CLUE OF THE BROKEN LOCKET won!
pickMy first Nancy Drew! This was fun. Not a sophisticated mystery, it was full of unlikely coincidences, but I enjoyed it anyway. I can see why Nancy Drew is an engaging heroine, with her cheerful independence, her spiffy roadster, and her indulgent father. This was a fun escape, and I‘ll probably pick up more of these as fun comfort reads!
A confession and a question: I‘ve never read any Nancy Drew books. I have these two lovely old editions and was thinking about picking them up this month, but I‘m not sure where to start. Does it matter what order you read them in? Are they episodic enough that you can jump in and out anywhere, or should I start at the beginning? (Because if I need to start at the beginning, I need to source several others before starting these!)
