1. Most recent is a Xmas giftt from my daughter: party sign. And an absolute favorite is this mug, which my daughter gifted me for Xmas 2018. What can I say, she gets me. ❣

2. I rarely listen to audiobooks -- maybe 3 or 4 a year. Most recent was Tiffany Haddish's The Last Black Unicorn. Listening to her read it 😂🤣😂🤣

1. Most recent is my Poe pillowcase with ‘The Raven‘ printed on the back. One of my faves is my black cat bookend set. I keep it on my nightstand and use it for my current TBR. @flying_monkeys

2. Only once in a while. The last one I started was Jaws on Audible. I was given Emilie Autumn‘s ‘The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls‘ audiobook on CD for Christmas. I‘ll probably listen to that soon.

PEE WEE‘s BIG ADVENTURE 🚲 I go to the library this morning to ask for assistance in finding more authors like Binchy and Pilcher. I get this big burly guy to assist me. I told him no romance ,no mystery, no inspirational , no chic lit. LARGE PRINT. He tried really hard. I came out with the stack plus a basket to haul them in. Look what‘s on top ! First Line : “Uncle Bernard was becoming bored with sitting in his drawer “.

bookandbedandtea Your big, burly librarian sounds awesome! What a lovely morning. 😊 3h
Buechersuechtling @ljuliel I second, @bookandbedandtea – can I borrow him❓ 3h
Buechersuechtling @ljuliel I‘m really impressed! Your library must be really well and brilliantly fitted. 😍 3h
ljuliel @bookandbedandtea @Buechersuechtling He was quite a handsome fellow but about half my age plus I‘ve been married longer than he‘s been alive. I believe he had a wedding ring so is most likely taken. I can keep an eye out if you‘re both looking for bookish men 😁. And yes we are very fortunate to have nice libraries with so many helpful people. 📚 2h

Reading became my passion, with a great library program that got me learning fast and early. All the Goosebumps books! 📖💚

Also -- Collecting books in general, seemed quietly easier on some topics like witchcraft (tarot cards) and drag stories (witchy high heels) as it wasn't easy to discuss or really collect these in my younger teen days.

Books helped through reading escapes, towards coming out with all diversely knowledgeable positives. 🔮👡

AlobelThee A great show to recommend (Season 1 on YouTube) 'The Boulet Brothers, Dragula' 4h
ljuliel That‘s great that books helped you to find answers to questions it might have been hard to ask others. I never thought of that angle. Thank you for bringing it up. 😊 3h
AlobelThee @ljuliel On the Part 2: Litsy sure keeps me motivated to keep reading, without too long away. 🙂 Thanks for the Q&A! 3h

I've read 139 of the 1,000 books listed on this site! (Was it truly necessary to include seemingly every Nicholas Sparks novel ever written? 🤔)

See how many you've read here: https://www.listchallenges.com/1000-books-you-may-have-actually-read

ImperfectCJ The Nicholas Sparks thing was definitely odd. 4h
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @ImperfectCJ I thought so too, even though I have read them! I was surprised that The Hearts Invisible Furies wasn‘t on there 🤔 4h
Megabooks And John Grisham and John Green and SK... 2h

Weird list. According to the list description, it's based on number of ratings on Goodreads. Still fun.

I didn't count books I DNFed (Eat, Pray, Love, I'm looking at you).

https://www.listchallenges.com/1000-books-you-may-have-actually-read/list/25

SmartSassery Nice score! This quiz made me realize I needed to start leaving Goodreads reviews. There was an abundance of Grisham. I was only at 206 with this list. 4h
ImperfectCJ @SmartSassery And Nicholas Sparks. I didn't even realize there were so many Nicholas Sparks books. I didn't mark any Grisham as read...I know I read some, but I can't remember any of them. 4h
SmartSassery The fact that you can't remember speaks volumes. 😂 There was quite a bit of clustering here. I wasn't ready. 4h
ImperfectCJ @SmartSassery Seriously! Any Grisham, Patterson, and Clancy I read was in high school, and even at the time I'd get them confused. The passage of time hasn't helped clear things up, either. 4h
SmartSassery I could see how those might all blend together. My dad use to love them. I've read one. I don't remember which either. All I know was it was on of his books. Point of something maybe. 🤔 Idk. 4h

I thought it might be interesting to post this simple question today. Can you say what reading means to you and why you enjoy reading ? Are you reading to learn ? For entertainment ? Because you were raised to read and it‘s just a daily part of life ? Because you‘re bored ? Because it‘s just your hobby ? And part 2 : How long could you go without reading ? Not due to a Slump, but another unforeseen reason. Just curious.

Heatherfeather ALL OF THE ABOVE 😁 and because I only ever wanted to be a writer. I went years without reading in my twenties, and then again when my mom got sick and when I was pregnant, but when I started back up during breast feeding, I haven't stopped since! 5h
greenreads I read books to learn, to enjoy/relax, and to challenge myself. When there are other means to fulfill those desires, I can (and have) dismiss(ed) books. But, consuming stories... is my hobby... Not exactly just "reading". 5h
MissAimz_55 Great idea!!! 💗💗 4h
See All 8 Comments
ljuliel I read once someplace that kids who read a lot like to escape to other places so maybe that‘s why I liked it. Now it‘s just become a routine part of the day. I‘d rather read than watch tv. I like to learn something each time I read a book and I usually do. Sometimes it‘s only a small tidbit, depending on the book, but I always learn something , so I am not only entertained but I‘m learning also. It‘s also fun to visit other places while at home. 4h
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I grew up reading, so it's a hobby. I prefer fiction most of the time as it lets me escape into a different time and place or even an imaginary world. It forces me to use my imagination to picture the world it is set in. 2h
ljuliel Great answer @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick It‘s interesting to see so many different answers. 2h
Zoes_Human I started reading as a child as an escape from a home that impoverished, violent, and filthy. I kept reading as a teen because it gave me a way to process the complicated emotions all of this gave me. I kept reading as a new adult because it was the only true constant thing in my life that has always been there and has never let me down. I still read for escape and solace but also for knowledge and joy. Reading saved my life. (edited) 1h
ljuliel That is a beautiful testament to reading @Zoes_Human . I‘m so glad that books saved you from so many difficulties in life. I hope your life is much better now. I understand completely about books sometimes being the one thing you can always count on to be there for you. ❤️ 45m

Happy Wednesday!

👜 a bookish tote bag from my eldest daughter-woman @SarahBradley It‘s quite colorful!

📖 I‘m sorry-not-sorry that I do not like or use audiobooks 🤪 Blasphemous, you may think, but I love reading myself and imagining or hearing the characters in my head; do not like most people‘s reading voices talking at me 🤫

4thhouseontheleft I was not an audiobook person until last year. So never say never! 🤣 And even then, I am very selective, and use it mainly for lighter fare, memoirs, or books I want to read but don‘t see myself getting to for years. 8h
Eggs Good point @4thhouseontheleft ! 7h
MissAimz_55 Great great prompts like always. Also I just became an audiobook person Bc of my commute. 2 hours in a car everyday will make you do it 😂 I found that a great narrator will hook you and make you a believer. For non fiction I always recommend ones that are read by the author Bc they give extra insight. For fiction I started with the tagged and the narrator with accents hooked me!! 4h
MissAimz_55 Also if you like Stephen king , Craig Wasson is the narrator who does so many of his and omg he is amazing 4h
MoonWitch94 @Eggs I have also heard it‘s good for books with difficult pronunciations, for example the Gaelic words in Outlander. I find it hard to get into books I have trouble figuring out the correct pronunciation for names/locations. 4h
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I started listening to audiobooks last year and usually only in the car as I started to travel a bit more for work. I snagged some CDs secondhand so if I didn't get into it, I didn't feel bad about passing them along. I am finding that some readers just aren't my cup of tea and it does hinder my enjoyment of the book. My favorites so far have been read by known actors who really act out the roles. It helps so much! 3h
