1) Finished out the read-aloud year and brought home the book bin.
2) Bought a wagon so I'm less likely to injure myself taking the book bin to the main office next week.
3) Orchidelirium! Orchids have so much character!
4) Played my first piano recital.
5) Silo, our resident Distinguished Fellow.
Not pictured: I had a great informational interview exploring a new-ish field for me.

1. IRL Bookclub was on Sunday. What a joy this group is! Bummed we‘re taking June off and won‘t meet until July 🫤
2. Plants were purchased AND PLANTED!
3. Silent Bookclub meeting with my BFF, such a fun way to spend a few hours 🥰
4. The rest of the ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl‘ books I ordered were delivered. I‘ll have to pace myself reading them 😂
5. Just have to power through today and then it‘s Memorial Day weekend 😎
This week has been terrible between world/country news and personal news; hooray for joys:
1. My boys, pictured together in a much needed family cuddle
2. Betty Crocker‘s Reese‘s Peanut Butter Coffee Cake mix—so good in cupcake form!
3. IRL book club. Most of us didn‘t like the book and talked about cats instead
4. I made it to the next round for a potential WFH library-related full time job. 🤞
5. Rainbow outside my front door

A hilarious and entertaining new cozy mystery series. The Dog Ladies started off with a murder mystery party that turned into a real murder, and I thought, "Oh great, another one," but I was wrong. I feel in love with Gloria, Pryia, and Ryan. Gloria and Pryia are lonely women in their eighties, and Ryan is a lonely IT young guy. They all have dogs and a cat. When murder happens at the party, they decide to solve it.

Tumblr being salty about shitty book reviews.
Honestly why I prefer litsy's rating system, and why I refuse to rate books on goodreads. Some people sprinkle 5 stars like they're sand, meanwhile I have read maybe a handful of 5 star books my whole life.
Bookends post for March and April 2025 is finally up: https://imperfecthappiness.org/2025/05/22/bookends-march-april-2025/
I list what I read in those months and ponder an unsettling temporal development.

The Frozen River - is published, and everyone knows this wonderful book
Hazel Says No is publishing on June 17 - I read it and enjoyed it.
I am still alive & not MIA! I need help! I have been in what seems to be the longest book slump imaginable. I have actually started some many moons ago. For some strange reason I don‘t finish them. I am hoping with some direction for one of these books will do the trick-but if you have another suggestion don‘t hesitate to clue a girl in!!! Thanks from a soon to be 40 year old. #firstworldproblems #readingslump #moodreader #bookworm #fantasyromance

TODAY‘S PROMPT: AUTHOR WITH A PSEUDONYM
We just received word that Zeke does have small cell lymphoma. It‘s not a surprise, but sad all the same. Thankfully, it is treatable, with the possibility of remission with chemo and a good 2-3 years, as long as we can keep him in a good place.
You can tell he‘s in a happy place from the photo, and that‘s all I can ask for. It‘s hard to see him go through this, but now we have a diagnosis and can properly treat it. ⬇️⬇️⬇️
1) working with teens, family, friends, community, being in nature.
2) Too many!!! Poets Maya Angelou,Joy Harjo, Naomi Shibab Nye, Jane Kenyon, Walt Whitman, George Eliot (Middlemarch),Owen Meany, Night, Witness, Memorial Days.
Not publishing until February 3, 2026, BUT…you need to add this to your TBR!!
Wow!! Just Wow!!
Ms. Kubica‘s newest has non-stop tension in this terror-filled, twisty read that has mostly unlikeable characters with secrets of their own, characters who lie, and a small town that also keeps secrets.
And what about the title? What does it mean?
Prepare to stay up late and have your jaw dropping!! 5/5

Lia Wälti is the captain of Switzerland's National Women's Football team and this is the story of her early years. It only tells about her childhood, while I was hoping to also see her later years. But since it's a children's book and made for informing young players about the world of women's soccer, it's perfect the way it is.
“Curran‘s enemies thought he was dead.
They were wrong.
He thought his past was left on the Voula Beach Road.
He was wrong.
Now, that nightmare is drawing his enemies out.
The halls of power are being targeted—but by who?
Is the secret of the Voula Beach Road behind the chaos?
Curran knows the answer.
It‘s all in The Whisper Legacy . . .”

🌼 I would love to learn ancient Egyptian or Akkadian. I am obsessed with the Club of Great Powers that existed between 1500 and 1200 BC and would love to read artifacts. I also love Hatshepsut. I could gush for hours about the women from that time period!
🌼 I really want to learn more about the ancient Chinese warrior and queen, Fu Hao. I haven‘t been able to find any solid books on her, but I guarantee there are some written in Chinese.
Y'all, I have to teach a 2 hour class this upcoming Friday on basic med support knowledge for supervisors at my agency. I have been feeling slightly discombobulated ALREADY, I need to be combobulated ASAP.

In addition to #14in14 this summer (well, it's 15 books to read, but work with me!), I have decided to read 7 short stories.
I've never read Faulkner, never read Plath beyond “The Bell Jar“, and haven't read Hemingway since high school and “The Old Man and the Sea.“
The rest are Kindle books languishing on my device for who knows how long.
Thanks @Liz_M for the idea of #14in14!
Hey all, I'm back and ready to talk books and enjoy the Litsy community once again. I've missed you all!
I have 15 books for #14in14. Because, what is summer with Stephen King?
Also, I want to finish Kalayna Price's Alex Croft series so those last 3 are listed.
I just got in the KC Davis book and will read that on/after Memorial Day (it has holds at the library!)
Most of these have been checked out too long and I need to clear the reading cart!
Thanks @Liz_M for the encouragement to list our summer reads!
Happy Pub Day!!

#SundayFunday well , I have read Gone With the Wind , Anna Karenina, War & Peace .With the Tolstoys it depends on what edition you read what the page counts are (a lot) . I was amazed when I saw Littens reading the giant Clarissa, I do have it here somewhere but I haven‘t attempted it .😄

Here is the bingo board for #QueerBC Pride month
You can use it for your #PrideRec2025 or use it for books you read in June
It is June soon and that means Pride! To celebrate #QueerBC is encouraging people to recommend LGBTQIA+ books and authors themed around the 8 colour Pride flag. It‘s interpretive so don‘t worry too much!
For example you could interpret Yellow - Sunlight as a book set in summer, with a yellow cover, grumpy/sunshine romance
You can post however you want, one rec per post, mega rec per post, comment below
Use tag #PrideRec2025

Whataweek! Lots of great kid things! Daughter was inducted into the honor society Phi Beta Kappa yesterday, and graduated summa cum laude today. Daughter and I cooked dinner together this week, and then the kids and I built our respective Lego kits. Son‘s high school senior rocket launch was finally recognized with the Goddard Award. And it‘s Norway‘s Independence Day today so Happy 17th of May!! @DebinHawaii
I fell a little behind on my #bookblanket with getting ready for vacation and then actually being on vacation. But here it is after completing the stripes to the end of April.
I am also now caught up to today right now, so at least that's one thing checked off of my to-do list
Just sharing my mom‘s/daughter‘s kitty 🐱 His name is RaRa or just Ra. I can‘t have cats because my husband is severely allergic (cannot breathe around them 🥺) so I live my cat life with my daughter‘s cats 🐈🐈⬛🐕 (and dogs) 😂
Hope everyone is having a good #saturday . #chatterday - Sitting here with our power off. 🤨 Yesterday it was out during the day, came back on in evening. 😃 Then bad storm hitinthenight, powerwentoutagain&itsstillout🫤
