Really liked this book thought it was different from the fantasy I usually read, I thought ending was okay, don‘t know if I will continue the series. But overall recommend it for someone who wants some spicy fantasy with interesting characters and culture.
1. There is an infamous story of me crying at my desk in middle school (full-on sobbing) over the impact of a book. I cannot remember the name for the life of me, but I recall it was a classic π€·π»ββοΈπ₯Ή
2. Sci-fi, fantasy and mystery - suspense & imagination
3. Tagged is a fine example

This is a great series that I‘m sorry is over. It uses France and England in a fantasy middle age period. It involves a very loose interpretation of various cultural things about the world and is really great adult fantasy. I don‘t know of anything that is quite comparable to it. All of the books in the series are good. Some people may be put off by the sexual liberalism but it‘s one of the reasons it‘s unique in my opinion.
It's been ages since I've read this series so I don't remember details, but I think Melisande and Phèdre's dynamic is roughly comparable to Frank and Carl's.

It feels like it‘s taken me forever to read this hefty fantasy but it was so worth it! I loved the political intrigue, the clever, complicated characters, and the effortless world building. Love as thou wilt. #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
1. Ack. How do you answer that? Probably Sherlock Holmes (A Study in Scarlet, especially), and Kushiel‘s Dart, for βΊοΈ reasons
2. The two books by Mr. Crouch I read more recently. Like π€― and π€ at the same time

"But Pierre Cantrel had a weak head and strong passions, so when coin swelled the purse at his belt and seed filled to bursting the purse between his legs, it was to Jasmine House, indolent and sensual, that he hied himself."
I do believe that is the most exquisite passage of a man's raging libido I've yet encountered!!

This has been on my βto readβ list for years based on its glowing reviews and maybe I hyped it up too much but I nearly bailed on this book. I appreciated the action and the fact that this book was almost broken into three very different installments but I was almost painfully bored by all the politics and many many many names of various courts.

Well, Littens, it's been a while... and I'm not sure if I'm back, but I wanted to pop in and say hi. I HAVE been reading... just also pretty unwell, anxiety-wise.
Right now, I'm rereading Kushiel's Dart for a readalong. I am wincing away from what I knooow is coming, while things seem so easy here at the start...
And here we go. After eight chapters of cultural context and suggestive eyebrow waggling, a hint of a plot!
...Iβm enjoying revisiting this book enormously and really curious to see what my buddy readers make of it #ReadAsThouWilt

An interesting world but the book is over written and repetitive, and I also didn't like some elements of the story. I bailed at 97 pages.
This may possibly be my very favorite series. There are actually 3 trilogies, and I love them all. Kushiel‘s Dart/ Chosen/ Avatar I‘ve reread many times. Political intrigue, a wonderful fantasy religion, kinky sex, and my favorite female main character anywhere. So good.

Rich in characters and world building. I read these in grad school and I remember standing in a bar and trying to explain to a friend these books. "So, uh, there's this woman who loves pain and she grew up trained as a courtesan and a spy..."
Recently learned that Tor is reprinting the Kushiel trilogy this summer! Shout out to Giselle at Tor for sending along a copy. I reread it a few years ago, but looking forward to revisiting Terre DβAnge again. https://shayshortt.com/2017/01/17/kushiels-dart/
#WyrdAndWonder day 18: celebrate an author
I had several in mind today, but a few conversations changed my course to an old favourite: Jacqueline Carey. Her sagas of Terre d‘Ange are gorgeously imagined, lusciously executed conflicts of love and treachery, purpose and personality. She‘s got a lot of mentions this year as an author folk would like to read or reread, so: who is up for a Wyrd & Wonder summer read-along of Kushiel‘s Dart?
An intricate and complex high fantasy filled with politics and desire. I was hesitant to read this. I hate sex in books. But the story does not focus on the physical actions when Phedre is with a client, instead, it focuses on the espionage. Sure, you know what is happening, but itβs in the background to everything else going on. A surprising find!

I don't know how long this will last, but the paperback of Kushiel's Dart is only $1.99 on Amazon. π
Just in case you haven‘t read this- you can get the first in MY FAVORITE SERIES for just $1.99 today- Ms Carey says it‘s available across all ebook platforms, not just Kindle.
The first in this amazing fantasy series is just $1.99 in ebook form.

This book has been taunting me on the booksale shelf at the library I work at for weeks and today I was like, fine, I'm taking you home! It's a queer kinky poly epic fantasy classic that I can't believe I haven't read yet. #QueerBooks #LGBTQBooks #Fantasy
Just wondering how many others do this? For both I have a fancy copy, one to match the rest of my series set, and a paperback to loan-only to very most trusted friends.
Thank you @Soubhiville I‘ve managed to make 45 sausage rolls whilst Bunk has happily been distracted by his new play mat! ππΌ

I was looking for a new fantasy series and this was recommended by Bookriot. Really glad I read it as it is very different than my normal style. Set in an alternative historical time perios reminiscent of Rome, it follows Phedre, a courtesan who is trained as a spy and also marked by two gods. Politics, murder, religion and history but mingled with intrigue, mystery and sex.
Can't wait to read the next ones
Read them all, and absolutely love them for a miriad of complicated reasons. Trying it this way, now. #audible #booksandcoloring #somanytinytriangles π€ππ§
βIn the general course of things, when beauty passes, the flower bows its head upon the stem and fails. Sometimes, though, when the petals droop, a framework of tempered steel is revealed within.β

β’ Have you read this trilogy? Thoughts? β’
How to describe? Political machinations abound - a complex world where sex is not shameful, nor are prostitutes... while the main character is marked by Kushiel and enjoys pain, the sex isn‘t the focus- it IS however important to the story and treated respectfully and more-or-less tastefully
My favorite under-the-radar book (and series and author) for #24in48‘s hour 30 challenge.
I know there is a cult following, but still I‘m surprised at some fantasy lovers not knowing about these books.
I consider them under the radar because of the S&M aspect; there are some people I definitely don‘t want to discuss them with! But if you like incredibly sexy books AND epic fantasy, you need to read these now!

πΉπΉπΉπΉπΉ This. Was. Epic. I've been meaning to read this book for such a long time and now that I've read it I can't believe it took me so long to get to it! I don't really even know what to say about it except that it is a work of art. I will be adding the next one to my tbr stack immediately.
#kindledeal $2.99 until the end of May. Sounds like the start to a good fantasy series.
New stained glass piece completed this weekend. It‘s meant to be House Shahrizai‘s symbol, three crossed keys on a field of midnight blue. Made for my best friend, who is also a huge fan of the books.
On page 112 now and really enjoying myself. Though, someone needs to make me a new cup of tea. I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!
I decided to bail. I was dragging my feet through this book and could not get into it. Just not for me. At least I paid only $.99 for it π. #bailed @Vinjii hopefully you‘ll enjoy it!
I‘ve finally reached page 100 and I‘m dragging my feet through this book. I‘ve been debating on bailing. π#currentlyreading#canteven#readingtime
