This rating is mostly based on the audiobook version. I‘ll have to give this a reread sometime on print. Is it bad that I felt sympathy for the monster and kind of hated Frankenstein?

The original #monster story. This is the copy I bought in college for the assigned reading for my History of Criticism class. I haven‘t read it since (it‘s been nearly 10 years 😱), but I remember this being a powerful story and enjoying it much more than I thought I would going into it. Mary Shelly deserves all the praise possible for this masterpiece.

How cool is this edition of Frankenstein? My daughter is in a STEM program that emphasizes science & technology (etc...) in all the core subjects including English—so, it makes sense they are reading what is regarded as the first science fiction story. Better yet, this edition has annotations to help direct discussions on the “social and ethical aspects of scientific creativity.” I almost want to go back to high school & sit in on their class...
Found this alternate ending to Frankenstein 📚

It took me a while to adjust to the more ornate language and even when I had there were times when I was muttering to myself, “do get on with it“ as we paused for yet another disquisition on the sublime beauties of the Alpen landscapes or the noble character of practically everybody. But having said that, the story does strike chords which have kept it alive and familiar to everyone for 200 years in all its various incarnations.
I've been listening to the Dan Stevens-narrated audiobook of Frankenstein and it is everything I could have wished! It's an amazing reading.
Picked up the last item for my #basicwitchswap today at the Oddities Bazaar in CT hosted by The Frankenstein Twins. Wish I was sending it out early so I could caption this “A”head” of the game“, but alas...
Box‘ll go out this week!
"I no longer see the world and its works as they before appeared to me. Before, I looked upon the accounts of vice and injustice that I read in books or heard from others as tales of ancient days or imaginary evils; at least they were remote and more familiar to reason than to the imagination; but now misery has come home, and men appear to me as monsters thirsting for each other's blood."

I‘ve been listening to Frankenstein on audio. I am STRUGGLING! I don‘t know if it‘s the reader or because it‘s basically extremely long dialogues or what.
Should I stop listening on audio and pick up the book? I honestly zone out every time I start listening because of his monotone voice.
Though I am 5 hrs into the audio. I think it‘s 7 or 8 hrs on audio. Should I just suck it up? Is this book worth it?
What a beautifully written book! This book took me by surprise, mainly because it's nothing like the classic movie. Rather it is a book that looks into the human experience and how the Monster is actually an allegory of humanity. I really enjoyed this book. It's atmospheric, beautiful and ugly, and just rich in writing. Well done. 4 out of 5.
Tonight I have a very rare treat indeed! Up until this evening the oldest film I had ever seen was Birth of a Nation in 1915. Now this will be the oldest film I have ever seen. The very first screen adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 1910.
I think this deserves one extra point

Between listening to this on my way to work, reading it during my breaks and discreetly listening to it while charting... this one is complete.
It was so so good! I can‘t believe this is a new book for me and not a reread :)

This one is a book and audio read (I do them when I can do that I can listen when stuck in traffic)... anyway it‘s nice out and I don‘t have to clock in till 20 more mins ... sitting in the park listening

My new found obsession is making me break out my legacy collection(s). These DVDs have the original movies plus all of their sequels!!!
First up is the original Frankenstein 1931 starring Boris Karloff and Colin Clive.
Fun fact, did you know the reason why Frankenstein's monster is green? It's because Jack Pierce had to use green face paint in order to make him look like dead flesh on the B&W film. He was never supposed to be green. 😉
Day 5- The original #horror book. Never thought I would read this, but last year, one of my favorite authors was hosting a book discussion about it for October at our Literacy & Learning center. So, I read it & liked the questions it brings up. Didn‘t love the excessive dialogue. Realized how badly Hollywood has messed up the story. #scarathlon #chillingphotochallenge
This is what anxiety feels like.
“What terrified me will terrify others and I need only describe the spectre which had haunted my midnight pillow.” - Mary Shelley
Catching up on #quotsyoct19 while fighting off the spectre which haunts my #midnight pillow (and my brain, daily, all the time, always) #lizdoesquotsy
Ah, just as I remember it... way too much detail in the surroundings and not enough detail where it counts. Still, the story is absolutely timeless and will remain one of my favorites.
Did you know that the novel does not describe how exactly the monster was actually created and that every time you see that in the films it was completely constructed just for that film? #TheMoreYouKnow 😉

Pretending it‘s fall here in FL lol!! Finally reading Frankenstein for the first time this year & I‘m just all around excited for October reads! What‘s your must read this month??
I finally have motivation to read this book, since it is the book for the Academic Decathlon this year. I could not be more happy or impressed. And I picked the perfect time to read it! I am already in the spooky/scary mood thanks to this piece of horror.
Spooky reading season is upon us!! I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to outright horror, but I'm game for thrillers, true crime, and - of course - the classics! What will YOU be reading in the run-up to Halloween this year? #Spooky #ClassicBooks #TrueCrime #Thriller #Halloween #AmReading #October
Re listening to this starting tomorrow as last year it got me in the mood for Halloween and I thought I would start a tradition to listen to this during the month of October. It also has Greg Wise narrating Dracula (as the Audible sticker is covering that bit incase anyone wants to know lol 😂) 📚📖
I enjoyed this book which feels like an odd thing to say given the subject matter. I found myself wanting to keep reading to found out what happened next even though I knew it probably wouldn‘t be pretty! It was deeper and more intellectual than I thought it would be and is well-written and a quick read so is worth checking out.
Posting covers I love for 7 days, no explanation needed. Tagging someone to play each day.
(Day 3) (also reusing photo from older post 😄)
@Sg1224 have you been tagged yet? If no, would you like to join in?
You will rejoice to hear that no disaster has accompanied the commencement of an enterprise which you have regarded with such evil forebodings.
