Said at a meeting of “The Cover Girls,” the book club in this book. Isn‘t that a cute name for a book club?
At the last meeting of my book club, my friend said to me, “you always have a quote from the book to share” so I laughed out loud at this during yesterday‘s #morningcommute.

Book two down for #24in48. This was a great little cozy mystery that I would recommend for others.

And just like that I‘ve finished the reading challenge! Needless to say, I increased it 😂. The tagged book was the last one and it was fabulous! A cozy set in a book themed resort? With a secret society tasked to guard literature secrets and rarities? Sign me UP! I got a very Librarian-esque feeling from it, minus the magic.

This was an excellent start to a new cozy mystery series! Jane is manager of Storyton Hall, a grand resort catering to bibliophiles. Hosting a week of Murder and Mayhem turns into more than she bargains for with the untimely demise of a guest! I wish Storyton Hall was a real resort because I would totally go there!

JoScho Might need to read this one in July for the cozy reads thing. 5mo
KathyWheeler I did not care for the audiobooks — the narrator is awful — so I quit the series. I think I need to read them instead. 5mo

“Don‘t be silly,” Jane said, giving the butler an affectionate pat on the arm. “These people are mystery fans. Readers. Bibliophiles. They‘re far too refined to resort to violence.” 🔍

This was exactly what I needed. A cozy mystery set in gorgeous Virginia (which I can attest to), with a great protagonist, a strong family, good friends, a good mystery, a mild sort of background romance, and a little (big) something extra. I will definitely be continuing.

On a completely unrelated note, @MommyOfTwo your next #coffeebeanbookclub #cbbc package is in the mail! (I forgot to take a pic)

I adored this book!! I loved that it was set at a resort where the theme was books... I mean come on, who wouldn‘t want to go there??? The mystery was very well written too, I thought I knew who had done it and then it took a left turn I didn‘t see coming!! I will for sure spend more time at Storyton!!

This book was so much fun! Not only did this book take place in my home state, but... A luxury retreat at a hotel where the theme is books??? Yes, please. Sign me up ASAP. Just when I thought I had solved the mystery, Adams took it in a totally different direction. She also gave the tag line "Virginia Is For Book Lovers." I knew I HAD to turn it into a bag line for my shop. I'll be able to customize for each state. 4? #MysteryMonday #CozyMystery

If you like cozy mysteries with a bookish theme, this is a decent read. Storyton is a retreat for book lovers, but their Murder and Mayhem themed weekend for mystery lovers goes horribly wrong. The dead bodies are real and they have to hurry and find out who‘s to blame....

In an effort to read more mysteries, I listened to Murder in the Mystery Suite. I enjoyed it! It's a cute story except for all the murders. I love stories about secret libraries, and I might have to continue on with the story.

A fun premise for a cozy mystery that falls flat in some places. As the first in a series, it often felt like it was doing too much to set up characters and future plot lines. I‘ll probably give the next book in the series a try, but I‘m not totally sold on it just yet.

KathyWheeler I love the premise of this series — it‘s the execution that I‘m not thrilled with. 2y
megt @KathyWheeler it‘s such a great premise! I‘m going to try the next book on audio (if I can get it through my library) and see if that makes any difference in my overall impression. 2y
KathyWheeler @megt The audio is weird to me. The narrator does fine with the main character but I think the others — men and women — just sound like prudish old ladies. I‘d be interested in what you think about the audio. 2y
megt @KathyWheeler a narrator‘s performance can definitely pull me out of an audiobook, especially if the tone doesn‘t feel like it fits a certain character. But I‘ve found that some stories are better for me on audio, so I‘m curious to see if this might be one of them. 2y
KathyWheeler @megt I also tend to like this genre in particular on audio, so I always give the audios of cozy mystery series a try. 2y

A fun, enjoyable little cosy mystery with an extra element thrown in that I wasn't expecting. This book won't change your life but it will distract you from it for a few hours. The characters were likeable and the descriptions of the setting makes me wish that Storyton was a real place I could visit!

Bailedbailed

This cozy mystery is set at a resort that caters to readers, which sounds delightful, but it wasn't really doing anything for me after a few chapters so I was thinking about bailing. Then it got snobbish about ereaders & that convinced me to quit the book. I love my Kindle & you will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands. I appreciate the aesthetics of physical books & I love them, but my Kindle is much more convenient & much easier on my eyes.

WarpedSweetness I feel the same way about my tablet. Plus it is so convenient to carry hundreds and hundreds of books everywhere. 2y

This is the first book in Adam's The Book Retreat series. It has an interesting premise, a Virginia resort that's geared specifically toward readers, with a secret hidden in the resort. The story was fine. I just didn't like the narrator. She's fine with young women and kids, but everyone else sounds like they're speaking with an upper crust British accent and their noses are stuffed up.

queerbookreader YOOO I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN!! Not with this cozy but with the Tea Shop series by Laura Childs?? The characters sound so rude and stuck up and shitty! The MC is always like. Looking down upon her student baker and like "silly child who is uncouth and does not know as well as I the almighty" and that is what totally turned me off to the series. I couldn't stand the character dialogue or internal narrative of the MC 2y
queerbookreader (Also I made the tag #ilovecozies so Littens could check out what cozy mysteries we're all reading!) 2y
KathyWheeler @thequeerspiderwoman Oh! Thanks. I will definitely check that out. I especially like cozies for audio. 2y

This is my second Ellery Adams mystery series and both are centered around books! This series takes place at Storyton Hall, an old Mansion turned Resort for Book Lovers. Filled with libraries, murder, and mayhem, this is a charming town and resort with lovely characters ? A very"cozy" mystery.
