September means time for spooky reading!!! These are on my list for this month…so far, I‘ve read 2 and enjoyed both😱
•PenPal~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
•Sleeptight~⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
An indie horror that has developed a cult following on social media! Author Dathan Auerbach creates an atmospheric, eerie thriller concerning an unnamed narrator who is trying to fill the gaps of childhood memories as an adult. This includes a school penpal project that leads to the disappearance of his best friend, a supernatural element, a weird stalker, and childhood traumas. Auerbach really knows how to write to our deepest fears.
This book is just pure dread and plays on childhood fear and the fear of parents. Not very gory but genuinely scary. 4⭐️

Perfect mood for this stormy, dreary day here in Florida ⛈️
I bought the hype, but the hype let me down. This is a slow moving, repetitive and relatively tame story about a man trying to remember a very specific time in his life that traumatized him. Except that nothing much happens and the novel‘s early promise is never really realized. It started its life as individual stories on creepypasta and was self published…an editor might have helped with some of the disjointedness and pacing.

I don‘t know which one of you lovely people sent me this in one of the previous swaps I did, but THANK YOU! I don‘t think I would have ever found it on my own. It‘s an interesting take on horror. Anytime an author can bring back the childhood feelings of irrational fear and naïve innocence, it really gets me. Definitely a creepy read that I just couldn‘t put down.
If not for some plot holes and unanswered questions, this would be a masterpiece.
This book was amazingly told and written. It is in our top 5 books of 2022. And the ending is devastating and made me cry. 20/10 would recommend. A quick read and a page turner, twists in every chapter.
#horror #bestof2022
I read this 2012 novel in one captivated sitting, and spent much of that time shivering from the profound creepiness of the experience. The adult narrator reflects on disparate childhood events, weaving together their horrifying significance strand by strand. The plot builds a believable world with efficiency, clarity and subtlety - Auerbach leans heavily on the frightening power of implication. What you don‘t see or understand is always scarier.
So I definitely got spooked a bit with this book, but the way things pieces out and kind of jumped around was a little confusing at times. It was an interesting premise and like I said, did give me chills at time but I think ultimately it was the structure of the story that just made this a so-so for me
It was my #bookspin for September though so that‘s another off the list

My TBR for the month of October and #scarathlon

Thank you so much for your lovely letter @Cupcake12 I love your homemade cards - your so creative. And the dogs… what can I say ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The only upshot of storm Eunice - time inside trying to blot out the noise of the wind and stop worrying about my greenhouse whilst spending time on the page with friends ❤️
Look what was waiting for me when I got home, @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego . I am still waiting on something for yours, but I think these boxes ship really quickly. 😁

This is a difficult book to categorize. It‘s definitely unsettling, creepy and sad. I found myself confused by portions due to the non-linear timeline.
What unfolds is an unnaturally way of storytelling, so it leaves you with a feeling of discomfort. The thing is, i read this book in like 2 days because i needed to keep going back to unravel this mystery. I felt so compelled.
It‘s an interesting way of telling a mystery.
This one is hard to review. The story itself is chilling. A terrifying account of a young boy's gradual recollection of the darker parts of his past. It's really something to read. The author originally created this story thread on reddit and it blew up. I like the original threads better than the novel. I don't think it needed to be fluffed up. I highly recommend reading these but maybe save a few bucks and check the Reddit post or 👇👇👇
This book is creepy AF. At work I am constantly surrounded by some pretty terrible humans (the inmates, not the officers... Most of the time). I read this in just under 6 hours on the midnight shift. When I say my heart was pounding from one chapter to the next I am not exaggerating. There are few books that truly give me a scary vibe but this one did! The author created so much suspense. The human behavior is what makes this one so unsettling.
So this was one of those … not the right fit (probably more like not the right time to read it). I just couldn‘t really get into it.
This was my #BookSpin book. Had to DNF it :(

@TheAromaofBooks
I‘m really tempted to DNF this book. I went back and read people‘s reviews and people just loved joy. I am a hard time “getting into” it and I‘m really about half way …. (Pic of my baby just because)
This is my #BookSpin (@TheAromaOfBooks) book :) So I have decided to work start this one today. Thank you @SleepsWithBooks for this one! Its been a while since you gifted it to me but... Better late than never!
Just got the keys to my inner city pad. It‘s just down the road from my beach house. I feel like I am 10 years younger again as I am downsizing massively. Making use of my house warming chocolates, champagne and candle and reading my Litsy Love mail and Readings paper on my yoga mat to relax and give the place some good vibes. This is my first time living in a brand new place. I have a grocery store, bottle shop and restaurants downstairs. Yay!
Love receiving #Litsylove in the mail. Thanks peeps. Kids are enjoying the ocean this beautiful, sunny morning and I am enjoying reading my letters in ✌️. I love school holidays. Especially these ones as Easter, my birthday and our neighbour‘s wedding falls during the two blissful weeks. I‘ve also been getting lots of time to book shop and relax. How was everyone‘s Easter? I got an Old Gold egg from Stew because I am old and cost a lot of gold. Ha
Popping this #Litsylove in the post when I get off the tram this arvo @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TheBookHippie
Sending out my first ever batch of #LitsyLove tommorow. So excited.
For anyone who might be concerned I used a damp paper towel a tape to seal the envelopes.
This is one of the few books that creeped me out at times, and I loved that. Definitely one of my favorite books this year.
^ Me after a coworker texts asking if I want to come in and work for a few hours.

1. I haven't read any books that scared me but this one creeped me out a lot!
2. The thought of someone stalking you and living under your house is horrifying!
3. I don't like nightmare on elm street and I think found footage is the best horror sub-genre
4. Mummies and Cthulhu
5. Figurines, pins, stickers, and journals
@teebe #creepychristmas
1. Penpal
2. Kids in danger, being stalked. I remember reading some of it at work and having the hair on my arms stand up.
3. I loved The Village by M. Night Shymalan. All my friends hate that movie. Lol
4. Zombies, they‘re so versatile.
5. Journals that I never write in. It‘s disgusting.
6. My vision board is all the delicious food. Fruit salad, tamales, carne adovada, biscochitos, Mexican wedding cookies, stuffing, missing are empanadas.😋
🎅🏼 The tagged book was creepy AF. Probably scared me because it was more about human nature type stuff, more realistic.
💀I don't love campy slashers. But it's been years since I watched one, so I should probably try again.
🎅🏼 Pennywise, Jigsaw, Beetlejuice, Pinhead
💀 Anything bookish, stationary, Xmas ornaments
#CreepyChristmas @teebe
Thanks to @Ash.on.the.line @BookNAround @AmyG @Stacypatrice @catiewithac and @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for my first batch of #LitsyLove mail. You‘ve made me smile and I appreciate it. Will write back soon!

Received the Jane Austen notecard today from @JenlovesJT47 as #PemberLitten #PenPal mail!
I‘ve already written a reply and it will go out soon!
Mail from my pen pal is always a ray of sunshine. Thank you @Mitch 😘
I had hoped to get a little something out to you yesterday, but according to tracking, it appears to be lost somewhere between Nevada and North Carolina (tracking hasn‘t updated since the 19th). Hopefully, it will arrive this week and I can send it on it‘s way next Saturday.
I tried a little wall decoration today. These beautiful cards were given to me by my #JB group penpals when I was in the group last year. They were just collecting dust in my shelf so I thought I'll give them a new life. They were too pretty to be just kept in a shelf.
I'm ever grateful for the friendships I made across the world and I hope all of you are safe and comfortable.❤
