My 17th store on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was to The Houston Book Warehouse. I had heard of this store but had never visited before. I brought in some books to sell and walked out with just as many. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but this place is huge.

My 16th stop on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was to The Book Attic. This is a used bookstore and was a chaotic maze of books on shelves, on the floor, and in paper bags. I think this bookstore must have just moved, because it was in desperate need of organization.

Ruthiella Wow! I would love to sort all those books. 8mo

My 14th stop on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was to Copperfield Books, which actually ended up being one of my favorite stops. It not only housed new and used books but also had a room specifically devoted to bookish novelty gifts.

My 13th stop of the #HTXBookCrawl24 was to The Book Readers Venue. It was a very small establishment, but the owner was so knowledgeable and friendly. Plus, I got to chat with a local author whose romance novella I purchased.

My 11th stop on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was a bookstore in Richmond that just opened a couple of months ago called LIT Bookbar. Nothing like an adult beverage surrounded by books. This will definitely be going up there as one of my favorites.

The 6th independent bookstore I visited on the #HTXBookCrawl24 was Gulf Coast Cosmos Comics. It is the only comic store participating in the bookstore crawl and is literally just next door to Kindred Stories. The owner was so friendly. Plus, the store has different rooms to explore that includes the featured entertainment room.

Took some time during the readathon (continued to audiobook even while out and about) to visit more independent bookstores in the Houston Bookstore crawl. LIT Java was my 4th stop on the crawl this month and isn't officially opening until the end of the month but wanted to open the doors for the crawl.

OK, my Litten friends…

Anyone want to share their Top 5 (in order)?

📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

Cupcake12 MG Leonard, Holly Bourne, Robin Stevens, Taylor Jenkins Reid and Colleen Hoover ✍️ What about you? @robinb (edited) 2y
mabell Always Georgette Heyer and Terry Pratchett! And the ones I need to complete my series - Catherine Aird, Aaron Elkins, Heron Carvic (and lots more) 2y
robinb @Cupcake12 I was afraid you‘d ask that! 🤣🤣 So hard because I like so many different genres. For fantasy, it‘s a tie between Patricia Briggs and Ilona Andrews (see what I did there? 😊); historical romance Julie Anne Long; Mysteries Anna Lee Huber, C.S. Harris, Charles Todd, etc., etc. I ran out of space for YA and Contemporary Fiction…🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for sharing yours. I‘m going to check those out. 👍 2y
See All 7 Comments
robinb @mabell I love Heyer too, Elizabeth! I‘ve been meaning to try Elkins. I‘ll check out your others as well. Thanks! 2y
CoverToCoverGirl J R Ward, Lisa Kleypas, Karin Slaughter, Jane Austen and Anna Lee Huber. 2y
robinb @CoverToCoverGirl Ohhhh, Lisa Kleypas…YES!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ 2y

#bookmoods

Although this was partly #setinaplaceyoulove , the bookstore, this read like pretentious chick lit. I struggled to finish and disliked nearly every character. The only part I did enjoy were the descriptions of NYC, another type of setting I love to read. Thanks to June #bookspin I finally got this off my tbr

Eggs Great and inviting cover tho…🤗 2y

6-9-22: My 56th finished book of 2022! Esme Garland is from England and living in NYC. She is getting her PhD in art history at Columbia University. In her spare time she works at a secondhand bookstore called The Owl. She befriends the kooky owner and staff and makes lasting friendships. Her life takes some turns but in the end she alway has The Owl. I love stories about bookstores. That would be the perfect job for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣5️⃣6️⃣

1. Two local bookstores have opened near me recently and I'm really excited to visit both bit haven't had a chance yet!

2. I'll go in with maybe one or two titles in mind and then usually go a bit wild. Other times I'll just browse and see what book strikes me.

Balthazar said I should read my #doublespin book next. It was one of those light, predictable, books that I won‘t read again, but was a nice palate cleanser. I was predictably annoyed with the MC and her bad decisions, but the quirky bookstore characters were fun. @TheAromaofBooks

My #doublespin book couldn‘t be more different from my #bookspin! Five chapters in, and while it‘s predictable fluff, it makes me miss browsing in secondhand book stores. I‘ve ordered books online since COVID, but nothing beats the serendipities and pleasures of browsing physically. @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks I miss that, too!! When we took a little weekend trip to do some hiking recently, we usually stop at antique stores & flea markets along the way, and it was so weird not to! 4y
Cuilin I miss bookstores too!! 4y
Hooked_on_books I couldn‘t agree more. Even at my library I find myself craning my neck to look inside (they have “take out” available from a table outside, but you can‘t go in). I miss browsing! 😫 4y

My husband and I are taking a quick trip to Nashville this weekend, and I‘ve already requested a stop at McKay‘s, a wonderful used bookstore there. Since I‘ll probably have limited time there, I need to have a plan of attack. 🤣 Where do YOU head first in your favorite used bookstore? 📚📚📚

#bookloverproblems 😊

TEArificbooks To my favorite genre sections 5y
robinb @mdm139 true, but I have multiples so guess I‘ll have to divide up my time. I also always debate whether to search out physical copies of my favorite digital reads, look for cool classics covers, pick a favorite author and binge there...I could go on and on. Bookstores tend to bring out an indecisiveness in me. 😩🤷🏻‍♀️😳 5y
Soubhiville I always start in recent releases, then fantasy and general fiction. 5y
See All 10 Comments
LeahBergen I head for vintage fiction. 😄 5y
robinb @LeahBergen Leah, I could have guessed that one! 😄👍 5y
robinb @Soubhiville Soubhi, I was just thinking I might start in the most recent stuff too. Then maybe on to romance and/or mystery. I think I‘ll make a list of authors that I‘ve been wanting to try, see how they rate on Litsy and pick up a few of them as well. 5y
ravenlee I love McKays! I‘ve only been to the Knoxville one, as my husband‘s family live in Oak Ridge. My favorites are mythology/folk tales, cookbooks, and kids‘ books. 5y
SamAnne I‘m headed there in November and am looking forward to visiting Ann Patchett‘s bookstore. 5y
robinb @ravenlee Aren‘t they wonderful?! I would love to visit the other locations in TN too (Knoxville and Chattanooga). Sounds like you definitely have a plan when you shop! 😊👍 5y

The B&N in Wilmington DE moved one mile south (why? The former location was right by a mall). This is what the new one looks like. Son and I think it looks too much like a warehouse. But maybe they‘re not finished with the final look? It‘s definitely much smaller too. It‘s too bad to see it like this, even though we prefer indies. Any of you seeing changes with your local B&N? (bookstore tag wasn‘t in @Litsy database)

Leftcoastzen I read somewhere that they are testing a smaller footprint in some locations, this may be one. 5y
Susanita The new one closest to me looks like this too. Very open spaces and enough lighting to land airplanes. 5y
LibrarianRyan interesting. The sale of the company just went through either last week or the beginning of this week. 5y

amywithbooks Oh hey, I'm in Wilmington too! Haven't been into the new store yet, it looks....interesting. 5y
Susannah Nice floors. 🤷‍♀️ Open spaces in bookstores make no sense to me, though. MORE BOOKS! 5y
cathysaid https://www.wsj.com/articles/british-bookseller-plots-turnaround-at-barnes-noble... Huh. Doesn‘t look “indie” like this article claims.... “Barnes & Noble Inc. ‘s new chief executive wants to run America‘s largest bookstore chain more like a collection of 627 independent stores.” 5y
Bklover Is there a cafe? MUST have a cafe! 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Leftcoastzen it does seem that way but I thought the original location was a better one — why didn‘t they lease out half instead?! 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Susanita lol at your lighting comment. Doesn‘t feel as cozy right?! 5y
ValerieAndBooks @LibrarianRyan it‘ll be interesting to see what happens with that🤔 5y
ValerieAndBooks @avgeyer it only moved a month ago. I didn‘t even know until we went over there. I‘m actually just over the border in PA — West Chester, by Chadds Ford😊 (edited) 5y
ValerieAndBooks @cathysaid interesting article; thanks for sharing. Seems like they‘ll be “independent “ in that they‘ll each have more say on what titles to emphasize. We ‘ll see!! 5y
ValerieAndBooks @Bklover there is 👍; still pretty much the same menu. But it was weird seeing white tables and blank walls without the iconic authors from one end to the other. 5y
