This period may not have been the best for me to return to Emma. I've got too much going on in my life and was impatient with the book. But I still appreciated the brilliant character studies.

My 4th reading of this novel.
And I think what really struck me this time is how much Emma cares for her father and takes care of him. She‘s 21 yrs and almost everything does is to make his life better, that‘s quite remarkable.
I also enjoyed reading about Mrs Weston and Mr. Knightley.
And also Frank Churchill isn‘t the nice guy he pretends to be and I can‘t believe his fiancé forgives him.

Tweets About Emma, Part 2: I love Brandon Taylor. ? I'm so here for the distinction between "favorite" and "best", because YES. And the follow-up tweet is petty snark at its finest. Where is Emma on your Austen favorites list, #PemberLittens? #JaneAustenThenAndNow
I've been speeding through this one and was coming to the close when a chance day hike came my way. What a pleasure to end as I started, surrounded by the gorgeous outdoors! I've read Emma many times and in many humors, and this time I really tried to notice the character's finer qualities. Obviously her change of heart is deeply felt and her care for her father drives nearly everything she does- but I will still never truly love this book. 👇👇👇
Emma being asked to comment on Mrs. E and only responding that she is "very elegantly dressed" is the original Shady Aretha moment and it absolutely sent me. ? Anyway, we're starting to see Emma's growth now. Mrs. W and Knightley hint that she hasn't been behaving well toward Jane and Emma internally agrees. She also recognizes that though she dislikes the Eltons, its her role as a leader in society to throw them a dinner- and she does! Progress!
I'm reading ahead, but I can't stop! Mrs. E brings a new energy to the book when she appears and I love how much Emma detests her. And even though I know she's set up to be vulgar and unlikeable, I always feel a strange empathy for her at first in being transplanted to a new place. And is her condescending "adoption" of Jane Fairfax in the coming chapters so different from Emma's relationship with Harriet? Where are you on Augusta, #PemberLittens?
Trying to relax after an awful week. So much so, this is the first book I've picked up in 4 days! Unheard of.

Repost for @Crinoline_Laphroaig
September means it's time for Emma. My print collection is up to 8. It's a busy month for me. Rather than committing to 2 chapters a day, I'm going to read as I can and listen some.
None of my editions are in the Litsy database so I'll need to add. What edition will you be reading?

Series 2 of the mini brands! I can‘t wait to collect them all!
I thoroughly enjoyed Emma much more after reading Rebecca romneys Jane Austen‘s bookshelf‘s , previously I started it a few times and put it to one side finding Emma annoying , a meangirl match making busy body - Austen herself said she‘d created aheroine “whom no one but myself will much like “ oh but this book is packed with sharp observations of human nature and character, I have aneighbouris Miss bates not financially butwith verbal diarrhoea
10-22 May 25 (audiobook)
We bailed! We watched the tv series (I think Johnny Lee Miller is my favourite Mr Knightley), the movies and Clueless, but then bailed about a third of a way through the audiobook. Emma just does not have the humour or the appealing characters of Pride and Prejudice and could not catch Trix‘s attention so decided not to persist through to the end.
I finally read this! Alright, it took me the better part of the month because I opted to read it in bits. The cadence in communication between characters (also the paragraphing) exhausted me just a bit, and I really wanted to appreciate the writing so I was best served by picking this up from my nightstand for limited amounts reading.

Emma Woodhouse‘s favorite pastime is to arrange the love lives of the people around her. What could possibly go wrong?
I wanted to enjoy this as P&P was foundational in my decision to pursue an English degree, but god I did not like Emma or Knightley. 😅 There‘s also not a lot that happens, plot wise. And, more importantly for me, I did not feel invested in literally any of these romances. On to Persuasion! 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

I‘m currently listening to an abridged Jane Austen collection (bookcover right) after listening to an audio drama of JA‘s Emma (bookcover left). The production of this audio drama was a touch dated but I like how the script uses narration to bridge scenes of dialogues, and after an hour I warmed to it. I have more JA books for 2025.
I really enjoyed doing Dracula Daily this year! So I decided to download #SerialReader and make my way through some more classics!

2. EMMA is quite the fashionista. 😍

1 Iris Murdoch, I honestly don‘t know where to start with her novels. I also have some Dickens I still need to get to.
2. The twilight series.
3. Emma by Jane Austen started a love affair with all things Jane. I have reread her books many times.
@Itchyfeetreader @Lizpixie @Karisimo @IndoorDame @julieclair care to play?
Whenever I hear the word #Picnic I always think about this scene from Emma

Choices were slim pickings this month, but Emma was easily the best book I read for March.
A fun read, but I was hoping to like it more than I did. I can't say I'm entirely disappointed but I was hoping for more substance out of it and more fun matchmaking shenanigans instead of the gossip which took the majority of the book.

I loved the movie Clueless when I was a teen. So this book was pretty fun because in my head it was those characters with the fun outfits. But honestly there's like way too much dialogue in this. Or something. Whatever.

#AuthorAMonth I enjoyed Emma even more the 2nd time. When I first read it I appreciated the dialogue (some of Austen‘s best) & found the writing relaxing and the ending heartwarming. But I approached it more seriously since I didn‘t read as many classics then, & found myself cringing at some of the characters vapidity & naivety. This time I was able to appreciate the humor more & see the caricature of village life in all its ridiculous glory.
1. I have always wanted to read Emma because Clueless is a favorite movie.
2. I have always wanted a Penguin clothbound because they are gorgeous.
3. I have NEVER EVER struggled with a book more since A Tale of Two Cities in 11th grade.
4. I really don‘t think Austen or Dickens are for me.
5. You don‘t have to love classics to love reading.
6. First #AuthorAMonth of ‘24 in the bag!
#midwintersolace
Settling in for my #hyggehourreadathon with my #authoramonth book and some cocoa to ward off the snowstorm and sneak in some extra #hyggehugs. Hope everyone is safe and warm tonight. 🤍❄️
Reading this as I‘m staring out the window at the snow that‘s been falling since I woke up and is supposed to continue through tomorrow. I find myself in complete agreement with Jane‘s view on winter storms!!! #AAM #pemberlittens
#HashtagBrigade I seem to be raising little literary critics! I can‘t get even one of these furballs to sit with me while I read The Bros K. I even tried reading to Cass aloud yesterday, she ran away so fast! Clearly not a Dostoevsky fan 😂 Then today I started re-reading Emma for #authoramonth & they both cuddle up sweet as can be. They practically never both sit in my lap at the same time. I think they‘re Austen fans! #pemberlittens #catsoflitsy
Oh Emma!
I find her so relatable, yet maddening. 😆 Well meaning, but not as shrewd and sensible as she thinks she is. Believing in her own superior judgment, yet continually putting her foot in it.
I didn‘t have quite the patience and understanding for Emma as I did on previous readings. Mr. Wodehouse wore me to a frazzle this time, also. 🤣 It was enjoyable to compare the story again to Clueless and match similarities/differences.
First of all, make sure not to get the “Signet Classic” edition because Margaret Drabble discloses the entire plot in the Introduction. (Sigh)
Jane Austen worked the magic of engaging me in the story to the extent that I felt I was visiting real people and the characters and relationships are intriguing. But she overdid it with unnecessary, irrelevant stuff, trying to tie up all loose ends. Ultimately, it was disappointing to me.
