Multiple perspectives: Frank, suffering from PTSD retuning from Korea, his beloved little sister, Cee, who needs rescuing, Lenore, their bitter step grandmother, and Lily, a good woman Frank leaves behind. All against the backdrop of a racist America that impedes and imperils the characters‘ lives.

It is Toni Morrison, so it‘s good, but compared to other of her books, I found it slight. I‘d have liked more.

I listened to this book on Libby. Toni Morrison‘s voice is so smooth and really soothing. The story is about Frank, a veteran who fought in Korea who suffers from PTSD. He heads to GA to help his sister. This story is short but important for people to understand how difficult life was for so many.

You can‘t really go wrong with Toni.

Another masterpiece by Morrison. As always, the writing here is superb. The way she describes people, places, and items is unusual but also just right. In this one there is a twist but it is so masterfully done that you don‘t even know to anticipate it.

Soft pick. This is not my favorite Morrison, but I do like how she focused on a returning vet from the Korean war, we do not have enough books on this demographic. Her delivery was effective, and the story is short I just didn't feel the emotional pull and connection I normally do with her characters.

Not the most famous of her works, but important nonetheless.

Frank is a vet who is struggling after the Korean War. That won‘t stop him from heading back to the hometown he despises to help the sister he loves. Not my favorite book by Morrison but everything she wrote was well worth reading.

This book was a short but very deep read. It was many stories within one l. I read it as part of a 2021 book challenge where I had to read a book written by an author who was deceased. I wasn‘t sure what I thought about it until the very end. This was quite a story. It dealt with the injustices that the Korean War vets faced when they returned home. It also dealt with racism. I am glad that I stumbled upon this book.

Before I even opened the cover tonight I thought, welp, time to hand my heart to Toni Morrison so she can merrily kick it all over the place for a few hours. She wastes no time, nor any words.

It seems most of us are really enjoying Toni Morrison this month. I have to admit I didn‘t realize just how many books she had written! And based on all of your reviews, I‘ve added many more titles to my TBR 😁. I‘m really interested in checking out some of her kids titles, I need to see if my library has them.

If you want to plan ahead, September‘s author is Ray Bradbury.

I think I loved listening to Toni Morrison reading this story more than the story itself. The story is ok, just didn‘t move me like some of her others. In this redemption story, Frank is a Vet dealing with undiagnosed PTSD and being back in racist America and all that entails. He heads back to GA to help his sister, and comes to terms with his childhood memories and his war nightmares. #authoramonth2020 #bookspinbingo #readmyowndamnbooks

Heavy, but a great story. I liked that it switched between 1st person and 3rd person. Characters were well developed. I loved the story, it was just something about how the brother hot his self together so that he could go and help his sister.

Frank Money is an angry and emotionally scarred Korean War veteran, adrift in his post war pain. But he‘s on a journey to find and help his troubled sister...can he save himself as well?

Hoping to try to catch this movie somewhere this week. Sadly very limited distribution. Best try to see it quick!

Feels less radical, less raw, but still Toni. Frank Money returns from Korean War grieving, heaving, raging. Sister Cee never found self-worth, taken in too many times, broken. They finally find sibling strength again. Sometimes reads like a list of injustices, but that‘s a path. Frank breaks in between chapters to show up the narrator, tell what‘s what. Short, novellaish. Still Morrison magic. 2012

First book finished in my new flat!

This was so touching. It felt slightly smaller scale than Morrison‘s other novels I‘ve read but that might have been my mindset as I read it. The sibling relationship at the centre was so incredible, so warm at the same time as so many other things were so harrowing. No one writes like Toni Morrison just no one - heartbreaking but never saccharine, and hopeful through all that pain.

2. Bunny by Mona Awad somehow beat The Testaments my other fave. Bunny will be one of my top novels of all time I think!

3. East of Eden. Some backstory - it was the first book my bf got me as a gift 5 years ago, then I lost it for years and didn‘t read it, finally found it while sorting through books to take when I move in with him this week. Felt like time 💖

Beautiful story. Another one in a theme I‘ve been unknowingly finding of siblings‘ love, and of lost and found.

⭐️5/5 Really enjoyed this pick for Women‘s History Month. This is the second book of Morrison‘s I read (the first being The Bluest Eye) and she doesn‘t disappoint. With a strange style that always takes a couple chapters to get used to, characters that aren‘t always easy to like, and twisted elements that are horrifying and interest grabbing, I devoured the whole thing in one day.

Starting Home today. This is the fourth book of Morrison's I've read and they always leave me in a book hangover.

I've read a few of Toni Morrison's books and liked each one. I came across this and bought it a while ago. I'm finally diving in and shaking things up with a shorter book than I'm used to reading. 🐱💙

I haven't read Toni Morrison yet, but l have a couple of her books. I really need to find time for her.
I'm particularly intrigued by this one and l'm not even sure why.

#HistoricalFiction is one of my favourite genres to read (my other favourites are fantasy and mystery... and if a can have a mix of them... Heaven!). I have a particularly soft spot for stories set in the 1920s. I've already read so many, and l want to read more!

I've read the top three. The lower three are still on my #TBR

The We Are Booked Photo Challenge made me think of this book since the theme was Home. Excellent and poignant! It also has a gorgeous cover. Must read! #readsoullit

Not quite as compelling as some of Morrisons's work, but it still showcases her ability to paint a picture with words that is so evocative and so precise. She moves back and forth through time in Home, mostly following Frank who has returned home suffering from his time in the army in Korea.

This succinct novella packs a lot of punch in 145 pages. The story of a Korean war veteran who returns to the home he despised all his life, Home portrays the idea of "home" as more than a physical place, but a sense of belonging. Of being wanted, of being able to fulfill a purpose. Definitely want to read more of Toni Morrison's meatier works after this #toughguybookclub #tonimorrison #koreanwar #blackamerica

A man comes home after a long time and many things have changed. From my #TBR

A few years ago l went to a book fair where Toni Morrison took part. Absolutely outstanding woman. I'd have listened to her stories and insights into writing all day long. I was particularly impressed by her ability to turn everything into stories, be it memories, musings, ideas.

Simply fantastic

My Friday night book and a drink for #readsoullit - I finished up Home with my water bottle and some chocolates while having a long, relaxing bath 🛀 📚❤️ my kind of Friday night party! Really, really enjoyed this story. I've read an embarrassingly small amount by Morrison and I am working to fix that this year.

First finish for #diversathon2.0 it wasn't my favorite Toni Morrison but it was still good enough to say it's worth reading. It took place during the Korean "war" and tells the story of a fractured soldier and his homecoming to the south.

Happy Monday!! For me, Monday means cleaning and organizing. So far, I wish Toni Morrison could read me everything. I should be able to take in the whole book today while I work. Hope everyone has a great day!

Maybe it's just me, but I like Morrison's older novels better. This one was just okay.
