Magic & family secrets. But different magic, not wands & spells, but the magic of nature and the stars. This story of Orquieda is told on two timelines as her family tries to unravel her secrets.
Greta says, âMomma, that book isn‘t working for you. You aren‘t well matched like we are. Put it down and try another.â
Thank you, Greta. You are a wise dog.
I loved the magic and descriptions in this novel. The author created a unique magical world in modern day that was refreshing. I did this as an audiobook which was fine but I think I would have followed it better reading because there are lots of characters and time jumps to keep track of. ððððð
I strongly suspect I‘m heading for a bail on this one. I‘m about 1/3 in and I‘m just not invested. If I do bail, I think I‘ll likely bail on #fantasticstrangelings as well. I think Jenny‘s picks just aren‘t my taste. ð¤·ð¼ââï¸
This book was so magical!!! It gave me Practical Magic and Stardust vibes in places with a strong dose of The Book of Speculation -- but is really its own thing! Cannot recommend highly enough if you're looking for something magical with strong story and lore but don't want to start a new series. ð®ð¿

1. I don't! I used to subscribe to book of the month but I got behind on reading and so I stopped it.
2. Lately tik tok! I have to set a timer so I'm not on there dke hours.
3. Today I am grateful for litsy, my pets, my family, my health, just everything.
I enjoyed this. I love magical realism, I wish it had been a bit denser, but the weaving of the family stories was well done and it was a quick read that kept my attention. I might need to read it again, as I kept getting confused on the characters, which is my fault not the authors.
Orquídea Divina has lived a life her grandchildren and family don‘t know anything about until she invited them to her funeral and to collect their inheritance.
I loved this magical realism story. The writing and characters were amazing and I loved how intricate the author was in weaving stories inside this story. The story kind of reminded me of Stardust but completely it‘s own at the same time. Probably be rereading this book a lot.
An incredible generational magical realism novel spanning from Ecuador and the United States. The descendants of OrquÃdea Divina search for answers about the magical gifts they've inherited from their grandmother and the shadowy presence stalking them. Beautiful and enchanting.

Loved this weird, magical book! You know that feeling when you start reading a book that you just know will become part of your literary landscape? That it's a book that will linger with you, that you'll want to reread over and over? This book gave me all of that.
I loved this book! If I have one bad thing to say, it‘s that the ending felt a little rushed, but otherwise it was so good! I loved the way the Montoyas just accepted magic, and the voice of the narrator was very amusing. The ending was a little predictable, and I wish we‘d spent more time at the circus, but I really enjoyed this book.
Time for a quick book recapâ¦
Tagged: slow and rich, with a worthy payoff.
Wine & Punishment: a cozy mystery set in a literary pub built into an old stone mill building ⦠what‘s not to enjoy?
Westaway: not shocking, not groundbreaking, but a great, chilly, atmospheric fall read that still had a little surprise or two in store for me.
Brutal: it was brutal. And a bit heartbreaking. ð¥²

This is a beautiful book full of magic & family in the vein of Alice Hoffman. It would be a perfect book to read on a cloudy, windy autumn day, curled up under a blanket, drinking a hot beverage of your choice. To see my full review, please visit my blog:
A magically-tinged, creepy story that includes family secrets, a curse, a circus, & some portal magic. The dual narrative came together really well & slowly but mysteriously unraveled the story. The magical realism is fun & intriguing with beautiful atmosphere. Fun & unique characters with some great character arcs. There is a LOT going on & it can sometimes get a little confusing, but just enjoy the ride. I enjoyed this from start to finish.
Thanks to #partner @netgalley and @atriabooks for the digital ARC of Zoraida Córdova's The Inheritance of OrquÃdea Divina in exchange for an honest review. The book is now available for purchase!â
This beautiful novel begins with a letter. OrquÃdea Montoya is dying, so she calls her relatives to her home in Four Rivers to claim their inheritance. She‘s lost touch with most of them, driven them away with her secret keeping and stubbornness. â¬
Got my first apple cider slushie at the farmer's market today! ð It's officially Fall! ðððð
Starting this one today! ð Already getting major Practical Magic vibes and I'm loving it!
I have so many people ask me (not you littens, because I KNOW you understand) why I read so much. And there are many many answers to that, but one of them is that you just absolutely cannot beat that special and wholly unique feeling when starting a new book! It's just...pure bliss! It fills my heart with joy every time and never gets old! ðð
My July and August bookspins haven't gone so well, so for September I've made a list of books I'm super excited to read, regardless of where they are on my priority list.
The last three are the books I'm currently reading, so I might have to swap at least one of those out.

I loved it! A little bit Gods of Jade and Shadow, a little bit Night Circus, a little bit Alice Hoffman⦠but still ultimately a story with characters and magic completely it‘s own. #BotM
I‘m squeezing in some reading time before getting my day started. I picked this from #BOTM this month mainly because I needed a different genre to complete the BOTM challenge, but I‘m a few pages in & I think I‘m really going to enjoy spending time with this family.
4 stard. The writing style is gorgeously stunning, and the story is so original, fresh and magical that it will whisk you away to a unique world. It's rare to find a book that you can just keep reading, not worried about the time. The only quality that bugged me was my biggest pet peeve- too much description. Overall, I'm very impressed with this author and excited to read her other work. Thank you to #NetGalley for offering this book.
âIt‘s in our bones, our blood. More than that, it‘s in the questions we need answered. The secrets, traumas, and legacies that we don‘t know we‘ve inherited, even if we don‘t want them.â
Family, finding your place in the world - and a LOT of magic. #ARC
