Perfect Storm: A Mystery | Paige Shelton

I almost forgot to post my #OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #20in4 #readathon results. I‘m too lazy to add up my reading time tonight & my goals were more about what I could finish. I completed 6 books & made progress in 2 others. I also kept up with readalongs of A Tree A Day & Sense and Sensibility, so all-in-all, I‘ll call it a success. Thanks @Andrew65 for hosting! 🤗

Andrew65 That‘s a great success, well done and thanks for playing along. 🥳🥳🥳🙌📚📚📚🍾🥂😊 9h

#OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #YearEnd #20in4
Well I accidentally deleted my lap counter but I had just glanced at it before.😄 I basically got about 10 hours in over this #Readathon . Finished a book before years end , made progress on others , so it‘s all good 👍 thanks for hosting @Andrew65

This was a fun tongue-in-cheek Christmas caper romance. Adam is under witness protection after leaving the mob. He's trying to lay low when he suddenly needs to dispose of a body & borrows a boat, accidentally kidnapping the captain in the process. A storm hits & the two men have to work together to get through the danger. This was silly and you can't help but feel for Adam as everything goes wrong when he's finally just trying to do right.

This was a reread for me, this time on audio. It was great to listen to a story in between other listens over the month. Still love these stories better than the original film Love Actually 😅

I won this short story anthology in a storygraph giveaway a while back & I'm glad I finally read it for my #doublespin pick of December. These were all queer retellings or stories inspired by Much Ado About Nothing, which was already my favorite Shakespeare play. Some were better than others of course but a few really stood out as unique and memorable. There are some art pieces scattered throughout as well. Definitely a worthwhile collection

#OutWithTheOldInWithTheNew #20in4 #JumpStart2025 #Read2025

My first finished book of 2025, I‘ve not read any Haig before but it was the book pick for the #OnceUponABookClub “Up All Night” box & came with a champagne glass, the #OUABC 2025 40 Book Challenge poster & 3 gifts that correspond to the story. I have some mixed thoughts about the book—I liked it but it took a while to get into & the magical realism was too heavy-handed for my taste. ⬇️

DebinHawaii … Still, it was an interesting story & I liked Grace, the MC, the Ibiza setting & much of the messaging on humanity, grief & living life, so in the end it gets a pick. I also really liked the playlist included: https://open.spotify.com/track/2A6yzRGMgSQCUapR2ptm6A?si=PvbQFNIhRHu91lqYLnQ2Jw more so than the gifts which were a bit meh. (Although the wrap & presentation was lovely). (edited) 2d
Lizpixie Matt Haig is always a bit navel-gazing about the meaning of life I think. The setting sounds amazing though. Well done on your first book of 2025!🎉 2d
Andrew65 I wouldn‘t definitely recommend The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. Well done 🥳🥳🥳 1d

For Christmas, Tolkien would write letters to his kids as Father Christmas & other characters. It is really cute, & you can even see early LOTR influences.
For this year's reread, I tried the audiobook, & it was incredible ❤️

Daisey I thought the audio was available from one of my libraries and planned to listen this time as well, but when I went to look it wasn‘t there. At some point, I do plan to try it out. 1d
JazzFeathers It is indeed so interesting to see Tolkien's major work filter into this story. A bit like it happened with The Hobbit. It's so sweet that he shared his creations with his children, in a way that they could receive. 17h
