Finally read Frankenstein last year and loved it!

(informal review because this was for ib and it was painful): dude, please stop fainting and control your superiority complex
#ReadAway2024 This is the book I chose for April‘s #TBRTarot prompt, “Choose a book which has become a TV show or movie.” My favorite adaptation of Frankenstein is a miniseries from the 1970s called “Frankenstein: The True Story.” Frankenstein is widely acknowledged as the first science fiction book. I‘m not sure what I expected but this was a pleasant surprise. Mary Shelley‘s writing is lovely. Victor, the so-called hero, wanted to (cont)⬇️

#NewYearNewBooks #ScienceGoneWrong I discovered that the New York Public Library has a rare copy of the 1818 first edition of Frankenstein published in 3 volumes!

The famous book with the famous cover of a famous painting: THE WANDERER ABOVE THE SEA OF FOG by Casper David Friedrich (1818).
Highly recommend the audio narrated by Dan Stevens. So glad I finally read this classic.

My favorite part of conventions is finding cosplayers and have them pose with the book they match. 🥰
#MC3 #Studio42Books
Re-read this for my Frankenstein and Climate Change class. I HATE the class but love this book. Definitely my favorite classic, i would recommend it to everyone it‘s so easy to fly through and enjoy
Tagged was my favorite October read. I cannot pick a favorite between In Memoriam and The View on the Way Down. Needs to percolate a little longer.
#2023ReadingBracket
I love this reminder of the fantastic books I‘ve read through the year.
Now I want noodles shaped like Frankenstein.

Frankenstein tells the story of gifted scientist Victor Frankenstein who succeeds in giving life to a being of his own creation. However, this is not the perfect specimen he imagines that it will be, but rather a hideous creature who is rejected by Victor and mankind in general.

1) Tagged. Audio book read by Dan Stevens was fantastic.
2) Packing for vacation. We don‘t get trick or treaters 😞
Tagging everyone! Happy Halloween!
@TheSpineView
Was Frankenstein the first Emo? Or Walton? The monster? Sappy and melodramatic, Shelley‘s story may have been unsettling and a one-of-kind 200 years ago. But for readers today, I found it to be a depressing bore. Leave this one off your Spooky Season reading lists.
It‘s no secret that Frankenstein is more of a study on the horrors of humanity than anything else, but I still wish it had focused more on the creation of the monster. The tension just wasn‘t there. Essentially, he said I built a monster. Then the next sentence was I lost the monster. I just didn‘t feel connected to the plot. It did like the monsters monologue but at that point I had already checked out and lost interest.
Starting off today‘s #scarathlonsprint by letting Phoebe Reads a Mystery read me Frankenstein! I‘m working from home while not feeling too well so a slow reread of a text I know really well is great to have in the background.

First, I cannot believe I waited this long to read this book. Second, although I own this edition, I decided to listen to Dan Stevens read it to me instead thanks to Litsy reviews. Such a nuanced performance! 5 🌟

One of my #bucketlist items this #scarathlon was seeing an old scary movie at the prince Charles cinema (my fave independent cinema in London) and today I went to a double bill of Frankenstein and bride of Frankenstein with a friend which was a fantastic way to tick off the list item!

This was my second year in a row to listen to this book. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ again.

My little listening buddy.
Currently, Frankenstein‘s monster is watching the cottagers, the best part of the book.
#scarathlon #batbrigade @Catsandbooks
I spent the morning working in the yard, watching the eclipse, and listening to the tagged book. Photo by one of my son‘s friends. Try as I might I couldn‘t get a good photo. I loved getting to spend the beautiful morning watching it!!
Who else got to watch the eclipse? what did you think of it?
And I got a LOT of yard work done and more than half the book finished. I‘m now in the monster‘s woeful tale. 😢

Frankenstein is my choice for today‘s #monster prompt! I listened to the audiobook about a week ago, so bonus points. And for funsies, I found this cute recipe for Frankenstein cupcakes…so cute!

It‘s time to listen to Frankenstein again this year! #scarathlon #batbrigade @Catsandbooks
The consequences that arise when an undergrad science student decides to experiment with resurrection, & flees from the creation of a strange new being.
One of my favorite Halloween reads, the birth of sci fi, & a fantastic dramatic performance of Dan Stevens all wrapped in one. Slow paced, very descriptive, & of it‘s time. But also an examination of humanity & monstrousness, & the responsibility of experimentation. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
I read the tagged book every year at Halloween. It‘s one of my favorites.
#SundayFunday Have a great day and don‘t forget to tag me!
Listened to the Audible edition of this favorite read. Dan Stevens did a great job with the narration!

I am posing, but this is an accurate representation of what I look like in the morning while I listen to audiobooks and enjoy my coffee and the sun coming up. This has been a year of reading books on audio that I have read many times in print. Audio has consistently made the reading experience better.
Rereading this for spooky season. My first time reading on audio and it‘s incredible.
I love taking part in #bookspinbingo for #scarathlon and winter games every year 🎃🎃🎃 I always stack up as many readathons and challenges as I possibly can! Here‘s my list for October

#bookspinbingo ?
A lot of these books I chose as books that I'm "most annoyed not to have read yet" ?
Idalia has been here and is still holding out for a bit longer, but I think we‘ve seen the worst of her. Unlike the majority of our town, we have been very fortunate to keep power the entire time. Reading and napping till she‘s gone. love this wonderfully illustrated copy of Frankenstein. #idalia #florida

I know Tartt usually gets credit for “inventing“ dark academia, but what about FRANKENSTEIN? Wasn't the monster created at Victor's college: the University of Ingolstadt in Germany? Creating a monster at college seems pretty dark to me. #justathought 😃
Someone shared this with me on the Facebook today, and all I can think is…if we‘re posting Frankenstein memes, then…then…that must mean it‘s 🥁 🥁 🥁 HALLOWEEN!!!! 👻 🎃 🧟♀️
?????
I mean, you can't make this stuff up.
"Snowflake students" actually reading the book ?
There was a Frankenstein themed bar in Edinburgh and it was cool!
I had a Corpsey Colada and my husband had the Monster (left drink).
You think I'd be relatively safe from book-buying frenzy at a garden centre, right?
WRONG!
These are Chiltern editions. And I will now be starting a collection 💕
