needed something short to listen to as I was cleaning, and this was something I always wanted to read. Short and atmospheric.

I just watched the Fall of the Hause of Usher on Netflix and I LOVED IT. I honestly think this was the best season in this series. I love how they processed the novels. Loved the easter eggs. Just watch it 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
Another dark and evocative tale, it‘s clear why Poe is so renowned as a master of gothic fiction. I love how he can conjure up an incredibly precise setting in so few pages although I didn‘t enjoy this plot of this one as much as the others. 6/10
This #ScarathlonSprint timing worked out perfectly, I managed to read for nearly the whole time! @catsandbooks #BatBrigade
A few point for week 3 game while I watch some scary TV

Poe meets “Succession?” Started the series tonight. Husband, who dislikes horror series, is intrigued. Poe in any form captivates. #horror #tv #Poe #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall
What a creepy & twisted piece of tv this series was. Nicely wrapping Poe with Purdue Pharma. Quoth the Raven “Nevermore”. 🐦⬛ #Scarathlon #SpookyGhostClub 81pts
Finished the series, episodes 5-8 today. A touch slow, but some solid performances and visuals.

Revisited the story as prep for the premiere of the Netflix miniseries tomorrow. It‘s weird and wordy and wonderfully atmospheric, just as I remembered. I do love me some Poe.
I am thrilled to be participating in the #Scarathlon for the first time! While the official start isn‘t until Oct. 1st, I‘m posting my spooky season watchlist to earn some #earlybird points! I‘ve got a lot of watchin‘ to do (this doesn‘t even include my yearly rewatches), but I‘m particularly looking forward to The Fall of the House of Usher series — I‘m taking off work on Friday the 13th to binge watch it!

I‘m left intrigued by what defines “gothic”. All the images in my mind about gothicism are more appreciable when I watch a Corman movie. This is only my 2nd Poe, though. Either way, it‘s beautifully evocative & a pleasure to read such assured wordsmithary rather than something more contemporary & anodyne. I thought this tale might be analogous to the aristocracy‘s fear of a dying bloodline but a Google search reveals a fascinating real-life event
Spotify now has audiobooks! It's been a long time since I read this, so I thought I'd listen to this while doing laundry.
Just read the one story from this annotated collection in my library, so forgive the slight misrepresentation of editions going on. Curious about this particular tale, and it gave good chills. I don't have a lot of experience with his writing, but I feel like around a fire at Halloween, it would be a good time. If it were me visiting the creepy house I'd be looking for different doctors, and therapists all 'round, but 'twas a different time...
The scene is set, so deliciously gothic:
"...black oaken floor...feeble gleams of encrimsoned light...dark draperies... furniture was profuse, comfortless, antique and tattered...I felt that I breathed an atmosphere of sorrow...an air of stern, deep, and irredeemable gloom hung over and pervaded all."
Not my favorite of Poe‘s stories, but since I‘m reading a retelling of it, I thought I should refresh my memory. It‘s dark and creepy, deliciously Gothic, but also…wordy. All those commas and adjectives and run-on sentences! 🤦🏻♀️
Another short story finished. I remembered more of this one, and I didn‘t enjoy it quite as much as The Pit & the Pendulum.

I was told this short story is very representative of Poe‘s works. What I can say is, it‘s pretty intense. The depiction is atmospheric, and from the very beginning there‘s an appalling sense of impending doom. No waste of words, no unnecessary descriptions, a very good #gothichorror read.
#Booked2020
Update for #teamharkness in #scarathon2020 finished watching Sleepy Hollow and watched Coraline yesterday. Plus finished the weekends #littenlisten with 10 hours listened finishing off conjuring of light, and a few Poe stories. Looking forward to digging into our #buddyread A Discovery of Witches!

“This house...it won‘t let her leave.”
Rainy day TV and knitting with my favorite Edgar Allen Poe ❤️
Wanted to read some more horror in October for Halloween. I really enjoyed this shirt story. Very creepy!
Much like the characters in this story, Poe was #haunted by his grief and personal demons

Ok, which word leapt out at me?!
English is my second language (of course my first is Gallifreyan). I thought I was great at it (I'm on C1 level after all) but then I decided to read "The Fall of the House of Usher" and I understood my mistake. I have to check every second or third word to understand the sentense. But it's a great practice. Wish me good luck!
1. Yes, this nice little house made me think of the House of Usher.
2. House Party ( I loved Kid 'n Play )
3. Our House by C.S.N.& Y.

I love the Cure so much, I have to go with something that feels like it‘s in the same gothic family. And the lyrics do say “I‘ve waited hours for this, I‘ve made myself so sick” and Robert Smith said it was about a nightmare. Definitely Edgar Allan Poe territory then!
Studied this short story back in uni and liked it (much better than some others I was reading - I‘m looking at you Fanny Burney 😂)

This came right to mind today as students are reviewing this & other Poe short stories for mid term exams.
I'm feeling rather Roderick Usher today - very sensitive to discordant noises 🙉
I‘ve been in a little slump, so I picked a shorty to help me feel accomplished. Horror always grips me like nothing else can. It‘s Poe. it‘s classic. It‘s short. You‘ve probably read it. If not, you should.
Getting through my Serial subscriptions! Well, it‘s only Day 2 so See if I can keep it up 😁 I‘m reading Little Women and The Fall of The House of Usher in tiny daily chunks. It‘s cool. (The app is called Serial Reader).
Getting my creepy reads on with some short classic horror! I liked this one 👻 #serialreader #spooktober
It's a short story, but I think it works well for #FallTitles. I really should read more Poe. #AwesomeAutumnBooks
Poe is my favorite author and i will buy every book i come across even if i already have it! This just may be my third copy of this book! #poeproblems
There was an iciness, a sinking, a sickening of the heart
This was the first story I thought of for #Brokedownpalace #JuneTunz (image by guidedbygreed on DeviantArt via Google).
This isn't a fictional character, but I've always been something of a Poe fan girl... #feistyfeb #literarycrush
Teaching #TheFalloftheHouseofUsher by #EdgarAllenPoe today, so I thought I'd wear my #Raven shirt from @outofprint. Will be discussing the macabre and phantasmagoria in #shortstory class.
I have always been fond of Poe, but it has been decades since I had read this one and decided it was time for a reread. Not my absolute favorite of his works, but good building of atmosphere in a short piece.
Another quick Poe read. This tale is almost more sad than it is creepy. However, you can imagine lying in an unfamiliar place. A drafty, dark old castle. You can hear the noises. I would've flown the coop instead of investigating, but I'm not an antagonist in a story...right? 10/1,001 #1001Books
HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone! Edgar Allan Poe has some of my favorite stories to read at this time of year (so does Hans Christian Andersen). I like to read a bunch of them from a giant book of his works while I wait to hand out candy. You can't beat Mr. Poe! 🎃
I read this spooky story today. I loved the descriptions of the dark House of Usher, and the slow build to find out what all those creepy noises Usher had been hearing. A perfect ending! 👻
