Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Movie Tie-In Edition)
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (Movie Tie-In Edition) | Ransom Riggs
The #1 New York Times Best Seller is soon to be a major motion picture from visionary director Tim Burton, starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Samuel L. Jackson, and Judi Dench. Since its publication in June 2011, this offbeat blend of supernatural fantasy and vintage photography has dominated the YA best-seller lists. And with a Tim Burton adaptation arriving in 2016, "Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children "is poised to reach a whole new audience. When a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, he discovers the crumbling Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned mansion, he wonders if the children who once lived here including his own grandfather were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow impossible though it seems they may still be alive."

3/5⭐ I lost interest about halfway through. The mystery of Abe's history and Jacob's exploration were more engaging than the typical bad-guy-does-bad-things of the second half. The age discrepancy in the romance put me off. #roll100 #52BookClub24 apostrophe in title

Surprisingly, I didn‘t love this book. It was very peculiar, but I felt the peculiarity was at time forced. I read it to preview it for my 10 year old but decided it wasn‘t appropriate for her. It‘s just ok to me.

I enjoyed reading this with my daughter very much. There are some great coming of age lessons and discussions to be had as well. We had trouble setting it down.

I enjoyed how different abilities characters had and how well they worked as a team.

I loved how mysterious the beginning was and it was really intriguing to read and get to know more about the past. I thought this would have been a bit scarier so that was slightly disappointing.

This was really fun & captivating book to read, some sentences made me smile.

The last part felt a bit rushed but the ending was intriguing.

This is an enjoyably dark and strange YA novel. Riggs combines elements of fantasy, action, and suspense to create an original supernatural world and a strong, adventurous plot. A bit slow to start for me, but the creepy photographs central to the storytelling are a fresh way to bring the reader into the narrative. It didn‘t blow my socks off, but I‘m invested enough to want to continue the series. 3.5⭐️

I love this book for its random photos that the author crafted the story around. This is one of the rare times where not only was it a cool idea, but it was actually executed really well and didn't feel gimmicky. #scarathlondailyprompt for Missing #teammonstermash @staycurious

I liked the premise and the characters but felt that it was lacking depth. 3.7 out of 5 stars for the adventure that it conjured up in my imagination.

It bothers me that my set doesn't match but now I can finally finish this series. I stopped after A Map of Days because I knew book 5 ended on a cliffhanger and I didn't have the last book.

3.5⭐️ I thought it was ok. It‘s a book that is out of my usual read and thought it was convoluted and lacked cohesion; felt it was all over the the place and most times while I was reading it, I didn‘t understand what was going on. It definitely is well done and the plot kept moving forward; will need a reread at some point in time. #2021 #fiction #bookreview #bookstagram #magicrealism #supernatural #fantasy

When Jacob Portman's grandfather dies under strange circumstances, Jacob then follows his grandfather's last words and goes to a mysterious island with his father, and finds an old house that was bombed in World War Two. After falling into a cairn tunnel, Jacob finds himself on the day the house was bombed, finding the children still alive and well. But there's something sinister that may have followed Jacob to the island, and it's out to get him

dawson.cossette If you like books that have mystery and supernatural powers, then this book is for you. A theme I found in the book is that sometimes the truth is sometimes stranger than fiction because in the book, Jacob thought his grandfather made up the children with powers and the monsters that hunted them, but the kids do exist and have powers. 3y

A teenage boy trying to reconcile the wild stories his grandfather told him w/reality after his loss. A strange island where he meets odd children that give him a glimpse into his grandfather's past. And . . . Nazis? Yeah, Nazis. The author does an excellent job of weaving it all together, making the outlandish & impossible seem sane & able. I found myself accepting even the paranormal-ish aspects of the book w/o question. An enjoyable adventure!

I read this book when it first came out in my high school book club and absolutely loved it. It‘s mysterious and “peculiar” plot line, plus the added pictures in the book just gave it an extra element I liked. Recently found out there‘s a movie and a whole series!! Agh I gotta get on it. How‘s the rest of the series for those that have read it? Should I dive back in to the world of Miss Peregrine?!

Fiction: Yes, Jacob's relationship with his grandfather reminds me of the bond I have with my grandma. Jacob grew up being close with his grandfather, he admired his grandfather and the stories he told. He finds a letter addressed to someone who could help Jacob learn more about his grandfather's past. This helps me understand that like me, Jacob also wants to learn about what was life back then for our grandparents.

Finally have the boys reading everyday. It‘s been so hard to get on any kind of schedule. But they have taken over the folding and putting away of the laundry and started reading at least 1/2 hr a day. I call that a win. Oldest is reading the tagged book, brother is catching up on Wimpy Kid.

Overall, I would say I enjoyed this book. It was “peculiar” which actually made it great. It was fairly easy to follow and the storyline was well worked out. There was an element of mystery, but you get walked through when the time seems logical.
