I loved Me and Earl and The Dying Girl. Hoping this one lives up to expectations 🤞🏽

I have so many good books on my TBR, but have been in a reading funk (for what seems like 6 months.) Would you recommend anything from this shelf as a fast/fun read to break the spell?

I love Julie Murphy. That's all.

Judging Artemis on its own merit and without comparison to The Martian, I feel it's a good sci-fi adventure.

For this one, Weir adopts a different protagonist point-of-view while keeping his trademark wit/sass and detailed scientific explanations. Generally, it worked and was fun. For sci-fi lovers, this was a solid moonscapade!

This felt like the most juvenile John Green yet. Maybe, as a middle schooler, I would have enjoyed this story but at 30-years-old it just couldn't keep my attention.

Turtles All The Way Down was more an attempt to capture the OCD experience than a forward-moving narrative. Disappointing because his other works are much more developed and enjoyable.

Exit West isn't quite a short story or a poem or a novel. It lives somewhere in-between much like it's protagonists, Nadia and Saeed. Their story drifts through time, space and the cycle of a relationship.

Hamid's writing style can take you through a breadth of emotions in just one sentence and that's how this beautiful love story delivered beyond my expectations.

One of my 2017 favorites. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a slow burn and VERY dark collection! Every story packs a unique punch; so much so, I would put Fresh Complaint down after each story and read entire books in-between.

This collection was mostly good but I'm more excited for another novel from Eugenides- that's where he really shines.

After all the excitement over reentering the world of Lyra, Lord Asriel & Dust, the newest installment of this journey fell flat for me.

While reading, I kept wondering, how many times will the same escape scene happen? Will our little protagonist talk about how tired and hungry he is AGAIN? Where is this plot actually going?

Hopefully, volume one was simply setting the stage for a more exciting and thoughtful series.

Basically, I couldn't be any more excited for this.

The new Calvin and Hobbs, Phoebe and Princess Marigold Heavenly Nostrils are deeper and sweeter than they know. What funny and lovely stories to revisit when you need a smile.

Also, I like to imagine me and my Newfie, Cruise, as Phoebe and her unicorn 😊

So far, this book just isn't living up to what I'd hoped. But the reviews are amazing so I'm hoping the second half picks-up.

Was anyone else obsessed with Practical Magic when they were younger? I could probably still recite the entire movie ❤️

This book is nothing that we haven't seen many, many times before. When I realized I was hate-reading, simply to prove that this book was as predictable as I thought, it was time to put down.

Ernest Cline is such a nerd and it's awesome! This book is an ode to all of sci-fi's best dorky shit and it makes for a very fun throwback. You know...alien invaders, the world isn't ready!, unsuspecting teen must save us all, etc, etc.

My outlier opinion is that this is better than Ready Player One. But whether that's true or not, if you're a geek too, I think you'll enjoy Armada!

As someone who lives in the city next to Beaverton, I can confirm this statement as 💯 correct.

This true story is SO, SO good; and, in my opinion, far surpasses recent WWII novels. The hero, Pino Lella, is an incredible human and one of the bravest individuals I've had the privilege of learning about.

Beneath a Scarlett Sky really showcases the courageous and genuinely good people that were willing to die for freedom and justice. We can all learn a thing or two from this book.

I was worn out on WWII stories after The Nightingale and All The Light We Cannot See but this book is renewing my interest in the devastating era.

Margaret Atwood, you bad-ass betch, you! This book can only be summed up in solitary words- no complete thoughts.

Dystopia. Sex. Deception. Sex. Prison. Sex. Elvis. Sex. Sexbots. Sex.

I'm not even sure what I just read but it was a wild ride and if you roll with weird, I would definitely recommend.

Oh, I love a good apocalypse book and this one lived-up to expectations.

The great cast of characters were well-developed and flawed in such humanizing ways. TEOTWRC is as much about finding ones-self as asteroids hitting the Earth and I think that will help this sorry transcend it's genre and appeal to a wide range of readers.

The first chapter has my heart racing 😯 It's either that or all the coffee.

Lots of campy God Bless America vibes in this story of one towns struggle to survive after an EMP attack on America, but don't let that deter you! If you enjoy the apocalyptic/dystopian genre you'll enjoy this.

Forstchen is methodical in descriptions of the break-down of our small towns. It made me think about what would happen to my quaint little neighborhood in such an event...

Jeffrey Eugenides AND Tom Perrotta will be at Portland's Wordstock this year. And my little fan-girl heart just skipped two beats 💗

We lost our dog this morning. Around 8pm a man drove by our neighbors house, they were sitting outside in-case she returned. He had our pup after picking her up on a main road a mile away. He gave her a bath, took her to the store for treats & a leash and had been driving around looking for us all day.

When it feels like all is lost, people surprise you with extraordinary kindness and I am eternally grateful for it❤️

The perfect background noise for reading? Video games I don't give one toot about!

A tale about the power of words, family and history; Ozeki packs a powerful punch. The characters are so complex and developed; the book will truly break your heart and then slowly piece it back together.

For me, the quantum physics element of the story detracted from the poignancy of the character's lives. That deviation felt out-of-place given the rest of the book. (Very, 1Q84 vibes.)

Nevertheless, would still recommend this lovely story!

This was fun! Space opera-y and light. For some reason, I was distracted throughout the book by whether this was YA or not. I suppose that speaks to the inconsistent tone?

Not sure I'll be picking-up the next book despite enjoying the ride.

Perrotta does a great job of dissecting suburban life with all of the complexities that life in 2017 has added to it. Such great characters and such messy, honest story-telling. This book hits all the buzz-topics of today in a fun/funny and surprisingly non-controversial way.

I'm looking for fun sci-fi that is less about crazy science stuff and more character based.

Looking for things in the vein of Oryx and Crake, The Wool Omnibus and The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet.

Spent the morning finishing this dreamy book. You really do feel as if your floating while reading; Fuller did a wonderful job with imagery and setting. I want to live where this family lives.

The story itself? It didn't really pop for me; so much sadness with no real climax.

Wasn't my favorite, but I really enjoyed the characters. The book surprised me with it's depth of emotion, something I've found lacking in other YA fantasy. Stiefvater is clearly a master of the trade. I will definitely be giving book two a try. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Into the Wild has always meant a lot to me (as displayed by my teenage wall doodlings in my childhood bedroom) and that's why I picked it as my book to share in #Litsygoespostalog.

Today, it means a lot because of McCandless' revelations during his sad end- life with others is more meaningful than life alone.

Appreciating that I had the opportunity to visit and have fun with my amazing family this week ❤️

Spending the week at my parents house and hoping to catch up on my reading. I haven't finished a book in...longer than I'd like to admit. Their house (which we call the rehabilitation center) is the perfect place to regain some clarity.

I. Loved. This. Book.

The fireman has characters easy to fall in-love with, a sensational, but somehow believable, epidemic and lots of edge-of-your-seat scenes. The abundance of pop culture references and digs at celebrities made the story so relevant and funny- a unique method of writing that really worked.

I want more of this world and these people. Fingers crossed Hill changes his mind about a sequel 🤞🏽

Think, This Is Where I Leave You with a little less humor plus a female voice and you have Reunion.

Pittard's writing is wonderfully emotional and truly takes the reader through the rollercoaster of emotions facing the narrator as she deals with death, divorce and debt.

This book made me anxious while reading...but in a good way, if that's possible. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
