👎🏼 Nicholas Sparks needs to stop...now.
🥨 +🍫 = Yes, please! Why choose?!
👵🏼👴🏼 x 2 Helen & Anthony; Eleanor & Francis
🎥 I loved Dirty Dancing. I was 5 and had NO idea what it was actually about. (Spoiler Alert: it‘s not just about a 🍉.)

Unpopular opinion coming right up!

I just don't get audio books. The whole point of a book for me is that you're actually reading them and getting lost in the words.
I understand if you can't read or are blind they are amazing but for me I just much prefer actually reading a book.

Don't hate me! 😔

Aims42 I totally prefer reading books over listening to audiobooks too, but I do understand people‘s appreciation for them. I listened to my current read while driving to/from my parents house last weekend. That was a total of 8 hours that I enjoyed listening to my book that I would‘ve otherwise missed out on ☺️ 6y
readingjedi I've actually never listened to an audio book so my opinion is pretty much invalid but I don't think they're for me. 6y
JaneyWaneyB I tend to leave the audio books too, much prefer reading the book myself as well. I did listen to a comedian read his own book recently and it was brilliant. Maybe try a humorous book by your favourite comedian 6y
See All 31 Comments
suzie.reads @Aims42 I just don't think I have the concentration to listen to someone else for that long 😂 6y
suzie.reads @readingjedi I'm glad it's not just me 6y
Ashley85 I‘m with ya! I‘ve never liked people to even read to me. I‘ve always tried to snatch the book and say, “Hey, let me read it myself!” 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 6y
suzie.reads @JaneyWaneyB I totally get the comedians books think it would be actually better to hear them say it. I just couldn't listen to one of my novels on an audio book. 6y
suzie.reads @Ashley85 haha totally get you. I actually love reading out loud to the kids in work but don't like listening to others. 6y
TrishMcCallister I as well don‘t like audiobooks. For the few I have listened to I categorize them more into a podcast style listening experience. I‘ve only ever gone to them when 1) I have to get through a book for work that I despise 2) I was too ill to hold a book. I‘m glad audiobooks are bringing folks back to the world of books, but it will never be able to replace reading for me. 6y
suzie.reads @TrishMcCallister I agree you can't beat a proper book. I don't get this whole I've read so many audio books... you listened to them lol 6y
Elma My mind wanders too much to listen to audio books. I have to have the words in front of me so I can focus. 6y
MicheleinPhilly I‘m not an audiobook person either. I‘ve listened to snippets of memoirs read by the author but I just can‘t do it. 6y
suzie.reads @Elma I'm the same my hubby just said I struggle to listen to him for 10 seconds let alone hours 😂😂 6y
suzie.reads @MicheleinPhilly I just don't think I could take it in as well as when I'm actually reading 6y
TrishMcCallister @suzie.reads haha amen! 6y
Kaye Audiobooks aren‘t for everyone ,and yes,it does take awhile to get used to them, but I find them great to be able to continue a book while I‘m taking my daily walk, doing boring chores, etc. There are many audiobooks that are actually enhanced and better in audio than in print. It takes the right combination of book + narrator. Everyone enjoys books in different form. I remember the big debate when ereaders first came out.Reading in ANY form is good 6y
suzie.reads @Kaye yeah reading in any form is good but I don't class listening to audio books reading as you aren't actually reading. That's just my personal opinion. I just think technology is deskilling people in regards to spelling etc. Children struggle to read and write because they don't have to think about it as much, like when I was a child. 6y
CouronneDhiver I‘m less into audiobooks now than I was before. It‘s slower and more relaxing to read in print... and it means I don‘t get through as much volume, but that‘s ok 6y
suzie.reads @CouronneDhiver I just prefer a physical book. I can't believe people have unfollowed me because I don't like audio books 😂😂 6y
CouronneDhiver Actually?! 🤣 Silly 6y
Elma @suzie.reads 😂😂😂 6y
Rissreads I love both! They are both important parts of my day. Physically reading and holding a book in my hands makes me feel happy and warm but I spend a lot of my time driving in cars being a taxi for my kids, housework, walking my dog. These are all great opportunities to listen to stories. I am still imagining the characters and settings exactly the same way as I do when reading. 💙 6y
sprainedbrain Everyone is entitled to their opinion and should experience books however they like. I read paper books, ebooks, and audio, and sometimes I do book/audio combo for the same book. In every format, I‘m getting the same content and the same words, and I can get lost in both. I certainly hope no one unfollowed you because you don‘t like audiobooks... I wonder if they didn‘t like your comment that listening to audio is not reading, though? 6y
sprainedbrain I really like this article from Book Riot on this subject, also. 😃 https://bookriot.com/2018/07/10/audiobooks-vs-reading/ To each their own! 6y
suzie.reads No, they went before that comment. It's sad that people can't handle differences of opinions. Personally I don't see listening to audiobooks as reading as you aren't actually reading. Yes, they're both cognitive skills (reading and listening) but you aren't decoding words so you aren't reading, although you will still get the comprehension side of it. 6y
booklover984 I'm with you, I can't do them either. I did give it a try because, why not? But it's not my thing. 6y
CSeydel Well, now I get why people get so defensive about audiobooks. I didn‘t realize there were people who look down on them. Yes of course audiobooks “count” as reading - not that it‘s a competition. Is there a prize? Why does it bother you that some people prefer audiobooks? I frankly don‘t know why some people have to put others down to make themselves feel superior. 6y
suzie.reads @CSeydel So having a different opinion to yourself means other people are putting you down? Get over yourself love if you can't handle people not agreeing with you stay off the internet. We're all entitled to opinions not just you 😊 6y
CSeydel Interesting that you interpreted my comment that way. In fact, like you, I prefer print to audio. But unlike you, my preference for print doesn‘t mean I can‘t abide others listening to audiobooks. I don‘t take issue with your opinion, just your rudeness. 6y
suzie.reads @CSeydel When did I say I can't abide people listening to audiobooks? I said I don't like them haha. For someone who likes to read you sure do struggle with interpretating it. Please refrain from commenting on my post again I have no time for petty little people, out for an argument. 6y
suzie.reads I can't believe some people can't handle a different opinion to themselves. Yes, I said I don't like audiobooks, which I don't. Not once did I say I can't stand people who do, it's just a personal preference. Do I think listening to audiobooks is reading? No, I don't because you aren't physically reading. We can't read the test paper to the children during their reading test in school because it isn't a listening test. Some people are snowflakes 6y

Harry Potter. All things Harry Potter. 👎👎👎👎

#UnpopularOpinion @Libby1

Libby1 Ooh. You‘re very brave. Well done! 👏 7y
knittedgnome I read it as an adult and wasn't obsessed but definitely could see the appeal if I grew up with it! 7y

TiredLibrarian Was just having a conversation with coworkers about whether or not HP is still a Big Thing for kids and teens. 🤔🤨😕 7y
TiredLibrarian @Trashcanman HAHA! How do you really feel? 😎 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @TiredLibrarian I'm 43 & it's still a big thing for me. 🤣🤩🤣 7y
blondie You're definitely not alone. I can't get into it, dont really wanna try anymore. 7y
Texreader I loved it but I can understand your opinion. Especially book one as it is so juvenile. The books were clearly written for kids, but I did feel the books “grew up” with the kids as well. I think reading the very adult Casual Vacancy was the proof I needed that Rowling is a brilliant writer. It made me look at HP in a new light. 7y
Chelleo @Trashcanman Hobbits and Gandalf 😂🤣🤪 7y
night_shift I can understand this. I'm afraid to reread it as an adult and hate it lol 7y
cathysaid @Texreader I do like her adult crime series quite a lot. Just can't do HP! 7y

Today's #readingresolutions prompt is #unpopularopinion. Here is mine..I did not like either of these books.
I was extremely annoyed with The Nightingale because the characters talked so modern for the time. I would read passages to my husband and say "I don't think they would have said that!" It took me out of the story every time! I thought Beartown took forever to get to the crux of the story, and then kept dragging once it got there.
@Jess7

CouronneDhiver I‘m with you... agreed! 7y
TheLudicReader I am with you 100% about Bear Town. Didn‘t like it one bit. 7y

Zelma Good call on Bridget Jones. Love that movie. Book was ok. 7y
ScientistSam @Zelma that's what I felt about the book. Interestingly I feel the opposite about Edge of Reason - book was better (more my normal opinion anyway!) 7y
moranadatter I'm glad it wasn't just me. The thing that I can never quite articulate about STTC is Zacharias starts the book as the adopted child of a man who purchased him as a slave and ends the book by being bullied into proposing to a woman who took his position from him and it's written as though I am supposed to be happy about his fall from power because he's obviously happy playing in his garden and marrying a woman who clearly doesn't respect him. (edited) 7y
ScientistSam Yeah, Prunella just isn't a character I can like it respect. She's really just out for herself. You can be a kick-ass heroine and still treat others with dignity. 7y

Gezemice Great answers. I don't hate anything. Except for The Alchemist. Full blown hate there. Possibly because I finished it, trying to figure why on earth people love it. Otherwise, if I don't like something I just stop reading it so no hate develops. 7y
EchoLogical @Gezemice I actually liked The Alchemist. It was kind of syrupy sweet, in a really simple way. 7y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I hated Madame Bovary more than Anna Karenina. ☺️ (edited) 7y
EchoLogical @Joyfulmimi I haven't read it yet but she sounds awful in the blurb. 7y

When you come late to the party, it's hard to think of answers that haven't been said...with that, here's my #UnpopularOpinionsBookTag:
1. All the Light We Cannot See
2. The Circle
3. Katniss and Peeta--I'm sure there are others, but this one bugged me
4. Romance
5. 🤷🏼‍♀️
6. Fredrick Backman
7. Love side stories--why does the girl always have to get the guy?
8. Outlander
9. The Firm--the movie ending was so much better!

saresmoore Yes! I agree with all of these, except I haven't read The Circle. I'm thinking maybe I should now! 7y
AndreaReads @saresmoore 😂 After seeing everyone's responses to that book, I'm hesitant to recommend it. I hated the main character, and I wouldn't say I loved the book, but I really liked it. Plus I enjoy the satire genre. 7y
TrishB Backman - me too! 7y
See All 6 Comments
AndreaReads @TrishB I really want to like his stuff...but every time someone describes any of his books as "it made me cry" I take it right off my list. 7y
TrishB It's not the crying so much - I love a good cry! Think just a bit too sugary ( I read one to check!) 7y
AndreaReads @TrishB Ugh, yeah, that's worse. 7y

EchoLogical Number 3, yesssssss! Who do you think Katniss should've been with? 7y
EchoLogical @Debiw781 Me too! I've heard some people say Finnick but I think that's because of Sam Caflin and the films. Lol 7y
See All 6 Comments
Debiw781 @EchoLogical Finnick had his own love already 🤔 7y
EchoLogical @Debiw781 True but Sam Caflin is hot and their on-screen chemistry was pretty good. 7y
Debiw781 @EchoLogical Somehow I just never saw that although it makes sense in that respect 7y

JuliaTheBookNerd Harry totally should have ended up with Luna! 😬💙 7y
Yournewfriendsams @thegirlwiththelibrarybag @juliathebooknerd I don't like Ginny at all she's just not that developed of a character- I can't understand why people like the match. I also feel the same way about Gale, we barely even know him! Why people so upset!?! (edited) 7y
Yournewfriendsams @cariashley Haha too funny! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Yournewfriendsams, it's been so long since I read the later HP books... maybe the marriage itself is more symbolic - he marries into a family which is everything he didn't have growing up? 7y

sprainedbrain @AlaMich it sure seems to pop up a lot for me... comments about how the love interest smells. Makes me roll my eyes every time. 😂 7y

Izai.Amorim Didn't like the Alchemist either. Paulo Coelho was a hippie in the 60s and early 70s and part of a band. He wrote the lyrics for really great songs. His magic realism imagery works best in the condensed form, I think. 7y
heikemarie Seriously and they smell like the most inane things that don't have a smell. It's infuriating. 7y
Bookworm54 Totally agree with vampire diaries. I haven't read the newer ones, but the original 4 were so bad in comparison to the tv show! 7y
sprainedbrain @Bookworm54 I didn't even know there were newer ones, but those original ones. Ugh!! 7y
sprainedbrain @Izai.Amorim I normally like magical realism, but the Alchemist was just too preachy for me, and I don't do well with preachy books. I do love music from that era, so maybe I would have likes his songs a lot better! 7y
Izai.Amorim @sprainedbrain Worth learning Portuguese! 7y
sprainedbrain @Izai.Amorim my grandpa spoke Portuguese, so I know some swear words. That probably won't help me though. 😂 7y
batsy I like the side-eye for Emma 😁 7y
Izai.Amorim @sprainedbrain Smart move! Swear words are the first thing I try to learn in any foreign language. It empowers you, right? I also try to learn the gestures, so many ways to say the same thing! You know, English 👌 is a very bad thing in Portuguese if shown upside down. 7y
jmtrivera Hahaha, my YA book club has a running joke about YA boy smells and the way they're described! We group text whenever we find a particularly good one (and let's face it; they're all pretty hilarious). 😂🤣😂🤣😂 7y
