Help! I'm stuck in the #BookChain with apparently the least popular font color ever. Any suggestions?

TheAromaofBooks Oh no!! I will check the shelves 😂 And if it feels like you are very stuck, you can go back a step and try to fill the link with a book besides this one and go from there!! 3mo
willaful If that's not cheating, I would love to do that! I've read 7 books since this one! 3mo

#TeamHarkness #Scarathlon #Scarathlon2020 Guys we‘re almost to October!! Here are some helpful hints to clear a few things up. Let me or @Clwojick know if you have any other questions!

Butterfinger My number one question is about "related to Halloween". I know it isn't the paranormal beings because that is our theme. So I'm looking for books set on Halloween or the name is in the title. Am I correct? 4y
See All 15 Comments
StayCurious @Butterfinger absolutely right. Halloween in title, as main theme, mentioned largely in book 4y
CaffeineAndCandy Pls tag me if there are any other announcements 4y
LibrarianRyan 😁👍🏻❤️🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️ 4y
Sresendez12 O good! My daughter is already addicted to some Halloween books! If we read them more than once, do we get points for each time we read them? 4y
dylanisreading Thank you! 4y
StayCurious @Sresendez12 reading is reading! I don‘t have a problem with that 🎃 4y
xxjenadanxx Awesome thank you! 4y
JoeMo Thanks for sharing...I‘m now happily adding some novellas and story collections to my tentative TBR list and glad that a childhood classic like Bunnicula will count if I revisit it! 🐰🧛‍♀️ 4y

shanebeth I‘m pretty sure they‘ve talked about Whoever Fights Monsters on the show...but I don‘t know if it was K or G, or both? I figure I‘ll just catch a rec in a new podcast episode at some point, probably. 6y

Fellow audiobook addicts, I need your help! Give me your best recommendations for LONG audiobooks available on Audible. (I‘ve already listened to The Stand, It, Outlander and The Mists of Avalon.)

Peterfox123 The Crow Girl by Erik Axl Sund. 30 hours +. Amazingly performed. Very dark and grim tale but one of the best audiobooks I‘ve had. 6y
Cathythoughts The Luminaries is on audible, I havnt heard it though. Sleeping Beauties is on Audible, I bailed though 😬, it was toooo long 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf The Goldfinch was good. 6y

Godmotherx5 Middlesex; Anna Karenina; 2666; A Brief History of Seven Killings; Needful Things; Middlemarch; Don Quixote I love my Audible account. I can say the performances were good. A Brief History of Seven Killings is the only one I haven‘t read yet. Stephen King narrates Needful Things & does a great job. 6y
awishman The Count of Monte Cristo. 6y
BookHermit The Secret History, N0S4A2 6y
tricours @Peterfox123 ah, good one! It‘s already on my TBR. 6y
tricours @Cathythoughts was it any good before you bailed? 6y
tricours @JenP @irre @BookHermit I‘ve read all of those already! 6y
Cathythoughts @Tricours it was actually very good. But I think I can only do short Audibles. I prefer to read the bigger books for now. I would say , give it a go 👍🏻❤️ 6y
tricours @Godmotherx5 2666 is a good idea! Thanks! 6y
Larkken Incarceron was great in audiobook. 6y
tricours @Larkken the cover makes me believe it‘s YA 🧐 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Or lots of others by this author. 6y
tricours @ForeverNerdy I actually DNFed his Elantris 😕 6y
Larkken @tricours hm. I don't know if it was. Is it the characters or the characterizations that make a book YA? How about the night circus? 6y

I'm looking for fun sci-fi that is less about crazy science stuff and more character based.

Looking for things in the vein of Oryx and Crake, The Wool Omnibus and The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet.

Any ideas would be much appreciated, friends!!

Yournewfriendsams Thanks @emilychristine !!! I've actually read book one of that series and never moved-on. Haha it felt a little like the TV show, Lost. Does it eventually all make sense? 7y
EmilyChristine I have book two and three to read. My friend read them and said I HAVE to read the rest. Plus book 1 is being made into a movie. 7y
See All 46 Comments
EmilyChristine Have you read this trilogy? 7y
Yournewfriendsams @EmilyChristine Oooo I haven't! That sounds interesting and I love a good series! Thanks for both the reco's 🙌🏽 7y
keithmalek I'm not big on Sci-fi (in fact, I'm not familiar with any of the titles you just mentioned) but I recently read New York 2140 and found it pretty enjoyable. And it's very character based. 7y
Yournewfriendsams Thanks @keithmalek !! I keep seeing that one in the store but have never picked it up! I hear KSR is one of the best in the genre! 7y
EmilyChristine Welcome! 7y
JessReads Maybe give Version Control a try? 7y
Wbabdullah I haven't read any of the titles you mentioned but thoroughly enjoyed The Forgetting! You could also try An Ember in the Ashes... 7y
becausetrains @EmilyChristine @Yournewfriendsams how have you not read the Southern Reach Trilogy yet!? Run don't walk to your nearest fine bookseller (or at least library!) I also recommend Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey and 7y
Wbabdullah I've heard 1Q84 is good too, and a homage to 1984...in Japan! 7y
Yournewfriendsams Thanks @Owlizabeth ❤️ Invisible Planets sounds great! I read LW just a few weeks ago and loved it- then I got to Caliban's War and it just felt total different...like a political strategy book? Have you read the third? 7y
Yournewfriendsams @becausetrains Oooo I love HH def will pick those up! Re: Southern Reach, it felt so...randomly pieced together? IDK. #ftg 7y
becausetrains @Yournewfriendsams it is kind of pieced together, yeah, but I personally like the style. Humans don't have control of the narrative in Area X, so their stories are more jagged, don't fit together well, and don't match into a fully-flowing narrative. (Helps that I saw Jeff VanderMeer speak on Annihilation in person & heard his reasoning.) Redshirts is by John Scalzi, whoops. And yup, 🏆 (edited) 7y
CrowCAH @TobeyTheScavengerMonk this seems right up your genre! Suggestions? 7y
Cupofjo Dean Koontz! 7y
EmilyChristine @becausetrains I know! Books 2 and 3 are sitting next to me. I plan to read them soon. I've had other books to get done. And I'll definitely check out Redshirts and Beacon 23. Thanks! 7y
Owlizabeth I've read through the sixth book. I like the series a lot! 7y
AceOnRoam Someone already mentioned it but yes have a look at 7y
AceOnRoam How good was Wool !!!! 7y
moranadatter Anything by Anne McCaffrey 7y
rachelm Have you read 7y
Bookbeez A Close and Common Orbit, the sequel to a long way was fantastic. 7y
Yournewfriendsams @Bookbeez I am not-so-patiently awaiting book number three!! 7y
Yournewfriendsams Wow thank you so much for all the recos @ApoptyGina69 @kimm @sprainedbrain @moranadatter @rachelm @AceOnRoam @NerdyRev I am going to look into all of these! Litsy peoples have helped me find so many gems ✨✨✨ 7y
KimM Since you mentioned Oryx and Crake, did you finish the Madd Addam trilogy? 7y
Yournewfriendsams @kimm I did and they really have stuck with me! What a great series. MaddAddam and The Wool Omnibus may be my fave series (besides HP, of course) ever. Did you love MaddAddam too? 7y
KimM I did! And Wool. 7y
BooksForEmpathy I second this recommendation. Like A LOT. 7y

My 19 yr old daughter is home on a college break & wants something epic to read! Any suggestions? She's a romantic at heart, but also likes paranormal & dystopian.

Bookzombie For paranormal, this is middle grade/ya but fun and sometimes really spooky. I'm 38 and love them. 🙂 7y
Bookzombie For dystopian, I just reread The Hunger Games. Battle Royale is one I'm going to get to soon. Again, YA but the Rot & Ruins series is great if she like dystopian with zombies. I don't know if any of these are helpful or not. 7y

Lots of people have been posting about tidying up their TBR lists and so on to help their secret santa. Whatever poor soul got me this time is getting no such advantage. My Goodreads TBR is over 500 books big and contains both books I own and don't own. My Litsy TBR is smaller but works the same way. I'd only go for books NOT featured on either. Sorry 🤓

CocoReads There's a challenge there! 7y
Moray_Reads Mine is similar and I just don't have the strength to do anything about it 😂 7y
SheReadsAndWrites 😂 I love him 7y
Cinfhen I'm with you @tricours 🙌🏻send me whatever you like dear Litten, I'll be thrilled! It's a gift you choose for me and that's really all that matters! If I own it or read it, c'est la vie 💗although my Litsy TBR is in pretty good shape... 7y

The next thing to get squared away after my dental work tomorrow is my glasses, so I can get back to hardcore Litsying.

In the meantime, I need help! What is your favorite new release of 2017? I'm looking for recs esp in
1. Awesome audiobooks
2. General fiction
3. Nonfiction
4. Short stories
5. General (not too romantic) YA
6. Graphic novels

I generally don't like romance, fantasy & anything involving WW II, but there are always exceptions! Go!

Megabooks And thank you in advance!! 7y
mom2bugnbee For your #5: The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon lived up to the hype, IMO. 7y

mauveandrosysky for short stories 7y
britt_brooke I still have about 50 pages to go .... but the writing in Idaho is so good. 7y
merelybookish Ditto @britt_brooke. Idaho is good! 7y
Jayhawk_In_Texas I haven't read any 2017 books yet (I feel so behind!), but I just got Lincoln In the Bardo over the weekend. I'm looking forward to reading it soon. I heard the audiobook for it is great and has over 100 narrators! (edited) 7y
tracyrowanreads I second the recc for Lincoln in the Bardo audiobook. So wonderful. 7y
awishman Only 2017 release I've read is and it's excellent! 7y
ohyeahthatgirl If you like weird short stories, I loved Things We Lost in the Fire. If you're doing the Read Harder challenge it ticks a few boxes, it's a collection of stories by a woman set in Argentina and it was 5k miles from me. 7y
NovelGirl82 I second Things We Lost in the Fire for a short story collection! It was wonderful! 7y
Megabooks @irre Considering using my audible credit for this! @awishman (edited) 7y
Megabooks @mom2bugnbee I've read it and loved it!! 7y
Megabooks @britt_brooke I'm a little freaked out about what it alludes to in the beginning. @merelybookish (edited) 7y
Megabooks @angrylilasian Good one! Adding! 7y
Megabooks @Jayhawk_In_Texas I have the audiobook from the library now! 😃👍🏻 @tracyrowanreads (edited) 7y
britt_brooke @Ebooksandcooks @merelybookish So, I finished Idaho yesterday and I didn't love it. The writing is very good, but I wasn't keen on the story itself. 7y
Megabooks @ohyeahthatgirl @NovelGirl82 How much horror is in this because I don't always do well with that? 7y
Megabooks @MyNamesParadise in my TBR! I need to see if the library has it! 7y
awishman @Ebooksandcooks I didn't do the audio, but I've heard very good things about it. 7y
Megabooks @britt_brooke Good to know. I'm on the fence! 7y
Megabooks @awishman I tend to like a lot of books more on audio. We shall see. 7y
MyNamesParadise @Ebooksandcooks my library system didn't have it so I drove to the next county over to get it ☺️ 7y
merelybookish @britt_brooke I'm about mid way. Writing is gorgeous. And I'm still fascinated by story and how it's unfolding. Does this mean the ending sucks? 7y
britt_brooke @merelybookish Nope, it doesn't mean that. I'll be watching for your review to see what you think. 7y
ohyeahthatgirl @Ebooksandcooks I didn't think it was very scary, but maybe opt for something by Kelly Link instead to be safe. 7y
