“It is a lot easier to be brave when you know you have no alternative.“
I can use this book in my classroom to teach children about viking culture, friendship, courage and growth. There are a lot of important themes presented in this story that can teach children a bunch of timeless messages.
This book allowed authors to explore “what if“ questions about society because it creates a world where dragons are a normal animal living in people's towns. People ride and train dragons in this world, where in our reality this is not the norm. The book challenges the idea of what if dragons lived in your city and people rode them around.
I liked this book WAY better on my second read of it and I already have the second book checked out and ready to be read! It's a humorous adventure and has a lot of charm. It isn't exactly like the movie which makes it fun to experience as an essentially new story by comparison.
I haven't read this book/series since 2014, but I just saw the new live action movie...
My dragon-loving self wants to jump back in and finish the book series completely now 😅 Its been a decade since I read the first two books, but you can never have enough dragons in your life! Time for a reread & restart #HTTYD #CressidaCowell #ChildrensFantasy #FantasyBooks #Dragons

Dragons are not my fictional being of choice (mermaids are), but the more I read them the less originality I find in their stories. Simply seems like they are all facing similar themes, speak similar languages, etc etc. But my kiddo was actively invested so I'll count it as a win and pray he dreams of Green Bay football and not fire holes inside dragon throats and mean boys jealous of their future leader.

Dragons are so not my thing, so if I have to read a book about them, it‘s either gonna be really cute or really sexy. I went with cute! This was such a good little story (which I didn‘t know anything about because I‘ve never seen the movie) and David Tennant did a fabulous job on the narration!

I bought a paper copy of this for the nephew and then decided to listen to the audiobook. David Tennant did a fabulous job narrating. However, I was not expecting this to be so different from the movie and maybe that impacted how much I liked it. Anyway, I‘m going to give this one to him for his birthday next year. In the meantime, I might have to revisit the movie.

My sons birthday was How to Train Your Dragon themed. He loves the movie and show. So I figured let‘s get the books for him. Looking forward to reading them together.

Watched the holiday special of How to Train Your Dragon: Gift of the Night Fury. Also my next episode of ER happened to be a Christmas one.

Listened to this audiobook yesterday - it‘s only 4 hours - and it was so funny! I mean with a hero by the name of Hiccup, how could it not be. As part of his initiation to his Viking tribe, he has to capture and train a dragon. Loved his method. I laughed out loud at the antics of the Vikings and dragons. Scottish narrator was great! #101 #BookSpinBingo #21 #BFC21 #3 #TAILSandTALESforADULTS #28 #AwesomeAugust #ROYALREADATHON Mushu #HSREADATHON

The movie is one of my favorites for the sole reason that Toothless, at different times, reminds me of all my pets. I adore Toothless so I was excited for the original.
The movie is loosely, loosely based on the book. At first, I was disappointed. That isn't my Toothless, but Hiccup is the same boy who loves to study dragons. And if it wasn't for this book, I wouldn't have my Toothless.

Loved this book. David Tennant‘s narration is perfect. Looking forward to reading book 2 .

I am thoroughly enjoying book 1. 🐉. Currently, Audible has book 2 and 3 on sale. Perfect timing 👍🏻👏🏻🐉

I am really enjoying the Audible version of How to Train Your Dragon. David Tennant‘s narration is wonderful

I read this one back in November (and then proceeded to devour the whole series), and I absolutely loved it. I think this one, and all the other books, have so much heart amidst all the silly jokes and characters 💚 🐉
@TheAromaofBooks This was my November #doublespin for #bookspin 😊

Watched The Gift of the Night Fury - combines a couple of my favorite things: Christmas and How to Train Your Dragon. Love Hiccup and Toothless 💕

I wanted something with silly fun to listen to while tidying today & I landed on this. And omg y‘all, it‘s narrated by DAVID TENNANT and it‘s a brilliant, hilarious, and silly fun performance.

The lightfury is finally finished! I crocheted the last pieces yesterday and then sewed it all together, which is not my favourite part. But I think it turned out well!

Plus: quick read, marginally entertaining.
Minus: I don‘t get why “boy books” have to be gross. I think it‘s insulting.
So, overall not a fan, but I was told by the young man who lent us these books that the first is something to get through so you can enjoy the rest of the series. I will try the second book on that recommendation. I doubt the kiddo will enjoy them but I‘ll let her have a go.

#mellifluous - pleasingly smooth and musical to hear. David Tennant reading this audiobook ticks that box for me! 🥰 looking forward to when I‘m out driving again to start this one! #beautifulwords

1) one of my favourite dragons is Toothless. (The top pic is the scary realistic version of Toothless from a dreamworld exhibit I went to in Melbourne).
2) Since Toothless is my favourite I love the How to Train your Dragon movies 🥰 and I also like Game of Thrones, and Shrek. These are the only things I can think of dragons in right now!

Listened to this one again, this time with my daughter. David Tennent is such a fun narrator. I‘ve never watched the movie, but I‘m 100% sure the book is better.

So the How To Train Your Dragon Christmas special the other night got me in the mood to watch the first special they did. Are these two cute or what? ❤️

Yes I am once again pimping How To Train Your Dragon. I took a break from decorating to enjoy this Christmas special ❤️

3.5⭐️
In a time when dragons are disappearing, Hiccup recounts his earlier years when he had to capture his dragon and learn how to train in. I listened to this on audiobook and had an absolute blast with it. The best part for me though was the level of sass that Toothless possessed throughout the entire book. Very entertaining, comical and good natured.

Listened to the audiobook because the sixth-graders are reading it in ELA. It was a lot of fun—though nothing like the movie. David Tennant‘s narration was completely delightful (though I could have done without Toothless‘ stammer, which was unfortunate). Overall, it was a great production and story. #LibrariansofLitsy

Normally I listen to audiobooks on double time but this is David Tennant we are talking about here.

Read by David Tennant, which was a freaking treat, but if you go into this with the movie in mind you'll be pretty surprised. Characters and places have the same names, but that's about it. (6pts. 5 for book, 1 for post)

I‘ve seen – and loved – all the movies and heard only good things about the audio books. And I was not disappointed. Even though it is very different from the movies, I had an insta love.
I adore Hiccup and Toothless‘s relationship, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that Toothless has his own voice.
The narration of this audio is excellent.

This was a cute story. I‘ll be honest, I would never have read or listened to it if it hadn‘t been read by David Tennant.
My one complaint is the audiobook had music in it and it was SO MUCH LOUDER than the actual story. When I had my headphones in, it hurt my ears.
Glad to have finished 1 Audiobook already! #bookfitnesschallenge Round 2 #SmallSteppers
I did forget to stretch before my walk this morning, but I remembered cool down stretch!

I need some Audiobook recommendations!
I‘ve been struggling to find an audiobook that I can get into from my TBR. I don‘t like long, slow audiobooks because they can‘t keep my attention.
I‘ve decided to try to break my slump by listening to children‘s books read by great narrators (David Tennant & Jim Dale)!
Let me know if you have any recommendations! I need to listen to at least 5 audiobooks for the next 6 weeks! 😂

#readathon wrap up: finished four books and a Comic - not too bad for a first readathon😊 I‘ve enjoyed it a lot and am looking foward to the next😍

Finished part one of the series for #dewesreadathon
It was a very quick and cute read, I‘ve enjoyed it even though I was surprises that it had about nothing in common with the film. 4/5⭐️
I did sleep quite a long time and now I have plans (which is why I had to sleep) so I guess I will try to read 12 hours for the #readathon which is a good time for a first readathon I guess😊 I just finished my 10th hour, 2 more to go💪🏼 but first:sports.

Something light before going to bed. I‘ve just passed my 9th hour of reading. It is almost 2am and as I have plans for tomorrow I‘m afraid I should go to sleep soon... #readathon

Ok, this is totally adorable!

Since how to train your Dragon-the hidden world is coming out soon I thought I would read at least the first book. It's very different from the movie (more than I usually find) but still very entertaining and funny. The illustrations are quite goofy which makes the book even better. Its light and easy which is just what I was looking for after reading The Book Theif.

My daughter is completely obsessed with this book series, and I can‘t blame her. We read aloud every night and my Viking accent is getting better.
Very different to the movie adaptation but equally wonderful and fun
