I enjoyed this one too. Finishing it wraps up my reading of the Sherlock Holmes canon. The #NoPlaceLikeHolmes group started in December 2023 and it has been a blast. Some stories were rereads for me and some were the first time. The community @dabbe and @Cuilin brought together and faithfully led has been a delight. Many, many thanks ladies. I look forward to what you‘ve got planned next!

With today‘s last story in the #NoPlaceLikeHolmes discussion group, I read the entire Holmes canon. Thanks to @dabbe and @Cuilin for leading the group.

This final collection of Holmes stories hints at Conan Doyle‘s almost reluctance to write more. Some are good, and some are not up to the caliber of prior stories. Yet, I liked the collection overall. A good way to spend a half hour reading one story at a time. #CatsOfLitsy #Xander #SebastianKitty

This is the final collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories, marking the end of Conan Doyle‘s iconic detective series. Comprising 12 tales, the anthology reflects Doyle‘s experimentation with narrative styles and themes but is the weakest volume in the canon. DONE! The final book in the collection. I particularly enjoyed Fry‘s introduction to this book, which acknowledges that some of these stories are repetitive of earlier tales but notes the audience seeks the comfort of the familiar. Sherlock and Watson behave just as we have come to expect and Conan Doyle continues to be a fabulous storyteller. There is some novelty in having Holmes tell a couple of the tales.

With the demise of my favourite bookshop in Southport, I've taken advantage of giving my wife a lift into Preston to visit my next favourite: Halewood & Sons (there's two shops, same name, same street, NOT associated with each other - don't ask!). They specialise in Holmesiana: photos of display window above. Inside, it's one of those shops in which you take your life in your hands, what with the tottering book piles and what must surely be a ⬇️

First published as a collection in 1927 these 12 stories are short and to the point. While some are recognisable from the TV series, there were some that I had not come across before. Provided the reader can grasp that when the actual stories were written they were quite unique, the people of the day would have been mesmerized as they turned each page. With this in mind it's a “Pick' rating from me

Hard to believe, but this book came out in 12 short stories in the Strand Magazine between 1921-1927; it's the final 12 cases of the SH's canon. The book form came out in 1927. Not as good as the earlier stories (IMHO), but more than ample for SH fanatics who craved more ACD SH stories. 😊

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would which is always a good thing.
First sherlock holmes book that isn't half in italian and half English

Went to London yesterday to the Hallyu exhibition at the V&A museum and also took a detour to the Sherlock Holmes museum.

A fine close to the Watson and Holmes mysteries. Well written, but not as original as many of the earlier cases: there was a number of repeated themes and clues and cases. Nonetheless, easy and enjoyable reading.

I was also quite fond of the two cases told from Sherlock Holmes' perspective, as his dry style was a fine diversion.

Just finished the series finale of elementary today. I liked it quite a bit. Especially how they left it open for more someday down the line. May have to start watching the BBC Sherlock again too.

Not my favourite of ACD‘s books, but still an entertaining read. And thus endeth the series! I really enjoyed the Audible version of the Sherlock Holmes series and highly recommend it. Stephen Fry breathes life into each individual character. He‘s amazing! 3/5⭐️

And another #24in48 #readathon is in the books! It was a great ‘thon for me with 4 books read and a dent made in the tagged audiobook. And, as always, it was so much fun reading with fellow Littens. Many thanks to the organizers for doing such a great job! And congrats to all participants! I‘m already looking forward to January. 😉

Planning on finishing the LAST stories in this beast today. It's my Game of Thrones. Its been like a year and a half. I👏WILL👏FINISH👏IT👏

I must agree with the reviewers that this last Sherlock collection is the weakest. Many of the stories lack the investigative genius and rely on gimmicks, or re-hashing older mysteries. Doyle was clearly tired of Holmes by this time. Nevertheless it was well listenable and I am glad I have finished the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most exciting part of my job this week was working with the original manuscript of The Case of the Illustrious Client (its alternative title was apparently The Case of the Blue Saucer) handwritten by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1924. No flash allowed so they're not amazing pictures but I promised @saresmoore a peek 😊 #sherlocked #sherlockholmes
