I enjoy Reichl‘s nonfiction so I thought I‘d give her fiction debut a go. Not sure what she was thinking. This book suffers from a smorgasbord of genres. Is it romance? Historical fiction? Mystery? An epistolary novel? A cookbook? A coming-of-age story? It‘s all over the place. The way one character speaks induces eyeball rolls, and several plot lines strain credibility. What a disappointment.

Started off strong, but I found myself getting bored. Low pick for my #doublespin this month. @TheAromaofBooks

Delightfully wonderful when I switched to the book! The audiobook was not a good way to go for this one for me, for sure! Loved it as soon as I started reading it!

I'm switching to the ebook because the audio is killing me!! I've not had an issue with Julia Whelan's narration before? But here her attempts to make male voices is grating on my already shredded nerves. 😬

This book jumps back and forth with timelines including some great sections on recipes during WW2. I listened on audio and loved this book.

I needed a book that was a little fluffier to read since I start work tomorrow. This should be a good prep hour/ read while kids do study guides for finals type of book. Also, I thought a glass of wine might help calm the nerves and get me to sleep so I'm not up until 4 am... bad habits die hard, especially over break. 😬

A fabulous book for foodies, fashionistas, mystery and history lovers, and romantics! A little bit of everything in this book but fair warning, the food descriptions will make you drool and nothing you can scrounge out of the cupboards will compare lol 😋😅♥️🍴📖

#blameitonbooked2019 #booked2019 my first completed read for Spring- food on the cover. I LOVED this book. It was on audible. There were snippets I did not love, but over all- a story within a story. Trigger Warning: the hard parts were food descriptions, since I‘m Vegan. Some of the descriptors hurt my heart. I kept thinking “I wish there was a vegan book like this”

First day for #bookfitnesschallenge and I‘ve already changed my activity for today. I set up my raised beds, potted plants, partial weeding of one butterfly garden, anti-mosquito garden finished, and half of my “sitting” garden set up. Needed two rests, help from two teens and two showers. It was hard and that makes me sad, but I spent time doing something physical I love. Listened to tagged book. #icandohardthings

I love the way Ruth Reichl writes. This novel has everything I love to read about - it‘s a mystery, it‘s set in New York, and there‘s food all over the place. It was such a good book.

Another read I finished in the last week. Just like Reichl's memoirs, this novel was full of delicious prose (if not sometimes an overly decadent offering... but this is Reichl's style.) A fun story that draws a smidge from some of her own life experiences. I think I'd like to add this one to my own library one day. (I borrowed from the library because I'VE REMEMBERED HOW GLORIOUS LIBRARIES ARE!!)

I lent my friend one of my favorite books several months ago. And I‘ve been telling her over and over to try it and read it. She started it two days ago and is really enjoying it. I am so happy and I can‘t wait to hear what she thinks of it when I see her at work tomorrow!

Like Fannie Flagg's The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion, I had intended to donate this book back to the Friends of the Library for their next sale. I believe it's going to stay in my personal library, at least for a bit longer.

I thoroughly enjoyed Billie and Sammy's discovery and resulting treasure hunt.

Predictable but cute, and all that talk of food! Yum!

I‘ve read all of Reichl‘s books 📚- she‘s one of my favorite authors and I always buy whatever book she writes, knowing it won‘t disappoint. This is her first fiction novel, which I found charming and enjoyable. I liked her memoir books better but I was not disappointed. I read this years ago when it was first published but today it‘s on sale - I hope others will enjoy her books as much as I do, and at a great price 😊📚📖

10 out of 5 stars 😂😍 this book was... delicious. In style, in form, and had my mouth watering many times. I LOVE all the creative and wild ideas about food. The characters jump right off the page and into your living room, they are amazing! So lively, so well written. Not simply a love story, but full of love. A beautiful self discovering story, with so many unexpected stops along the way. Seriously delicious. It‘s so aptly named! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

1. A sprained ankle, sickness, husband had to work overnight all weekend AND has to be gone two nights this week for his other job- so I‘m tired!!! And laid up. With a toddler to care for 😂 bad Monday‘s.

1. @Valink I accidentally unraveled the yarn looking for the end 🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel like such a failure for that. Being very careful not to tangle it. But
2. I‘m making progress on this little scarf! I almost made something crochet but decided I needed the challenge. It‘s fun!
3. Did this for a couple hours then continued with my book, I have not disliked a single page of this book, or had to skim a single paragraph, and that‘s saying something!

I‘m falling madly in love with this book. And my 2nd favorite reading spot was so lovely today. It would be my top favorite if there weren‘t so many bugs outside. But we sprayed it the day before so today was peace. 😂

I absolutely loved this book about Billie who moved across the country to work for a good magazine. The story is very captivating kept my interest from the beginning to the end didn‘t want to put it down. The story had some good twists and turns too. Totally captivating especially if you‘re a foodie.

Starting this tonight! Thank you @Sharpeipup for passing along your first round postal club book to me 😍 I‘m becoming very addicted to reading books with others notes in them. I‘m so excited for this one!

I don‘t remember reading a book so centred around food. Can you gain weight reading about exquisite sounding cuisine? Where can I get “an enormous bowl of pasta con le vongole” and “a plate of warm sugar-dusted sfinge”? Even if I don‘t know what those dishes are! Happy Easter!!!

Took this off of my TBR shelf because I needed a break from The Fact of a Body, and this seemed like THE MOST opposite book I own. LOVE A WOMAN FINDING HERSELF STORY.

I love food memoirs and this was a lovely little food-lovin‘ book filled with savory illustrations and references but also including fun characters, some mystery and even a bit of romance. The story of the letters and the flashbacks to the times of victory garden cooking really intrigued me. I enjoyed the insight into that world and how prejudices toward Italian Americans were so fierce during that time that eating Italian food seemed un-American!
