When I started putting books together for #14books14weeks I realised that between Camp Litsy and other buddy reads I already have 14 books lined up for summer. And I'll be reading those anyway, so I decided to challenge myself to also read 14 books without a group schedule. Most of these keep getting pushed back because of those scheduled reads. Well, now these are scheduled too. Not shown in reading order. Banana for size.
@Liz_M

intothehallofbooks I loved The Eyes of the Dragon! 6d
Leniverse @intothehallofbooks Nice! I don't know much about it. Just that it's fantasy and King wrote it for his children and other young readers. 6d
tpixie Great stack! I loved The Gunslinger series Is that 💚Backman‘s 6d

RaeLovesToRead BANANA FOR SIZE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 6d
Leniverse @tpixie It is, yes! I haven't read anything by him yet as I feel weird reading Scandinavian lit in English, but my brother got me that one and Beartown in Norwegian. 6d
Leniverse @RaeLovesToRead It seemed an opportunity too good to miss😂 6d
tpixie @Leniverse I would love to be able to read his books in his own language. They are beautiful in English, but the primary language would be magical. Loved Grandmother & Ove - they are my favorites. 🩵 I waited a long time to read Beartown because I‘m not interested in hockey. But it‘s so much more than hockey…. 6d
Leniverse @tpixie To be fair, they are originally written in Swedish. But that's similar enough to Norwegian it's more like they're different dialects. I have no trouble understanding it when spoken, but in writing it gives me a headache ? In Norwegian it's similar enough that I can "hear" it in Swedish internally. In English it often doesn't feel right and I keep wondering what phrase/word was this in the original? 6d
BarbaraJean Yesssss the banana 🍌😂😂 5d
tpixie @Leniverse that‘s great. The two languages have enough overlap for that. And I agree with @BarbaraJean I love your banana. 🍌🤩💛 5d
Suet624 Good luck! That‘s a lot of reading! 5d

In the US, summer is bookended by two holiday weekends: Memorial Day, the last Monday in May, and Labor Day, the first Monday in September. 14 weeks.

I challenge you to read 14 books between May 26 and Sep 1, which some of you may remember fondly as #14Books14Weeks.

Show me your stacks!

AmyG I will have to make a TBR. Love the cat illustration. 3w

janeycanuck Thank you for resurrecting this! I was so sad when I realized the original host wasn‘t hanging about on Litsy anymore. I‘ve got a good idea of what will be in my stack - will post this weekend! 2w
Leniverse Tricky, since I'll also be doing Big Book Summer, which is about reading long books 😅 But... I can try to add some short ones too to make up the numbers. 🤔 2w
Liz_M @Leniverse Yeah, I try to read big books that don't have digital versions on my summer visit to Mom's house, with lots of backyard reading time. So I'm not entirely sure my stack is doable, but that's what the challenge part is for. 😁

Also, It's your challenge and surely some of those big books were originally published in several volumes and count as multiple books.....
2w
Leniverse I'm my own worst enemy, so if it's in one volume then it counts as one book ? Exceptions made if it's "The Collected Fiction of". But that Kristin Lavransdatter, no... Counts as one ? 2w
Liz_M @Leniverse It's whatever you want - it's supposed to be a fun motivator to work through a section of your TBR 😊 2w
Leniverse If nothing else it will be fun to put together the stack of 14 books! ♥️ 2w
Liz_M @sarahbarnes Excellent! I feel like @Kitta has also posted about some lovely Brooklyn bookstores recently. 2w
Liz_M @janeycanuck My pleasure! I loved this one - it's the perfect time of year so it's manageable and also motivates me to set get to some of the books from my shelves. 2w
Liz_M @ShananigansReads Yay! Maybe half arcs and half owned-books? 2w
Kitta @sarahbarnes @Liz_M Yes! There‘s some great ones in Brooklyn. In my neighbourhood alone there‘s 3 lol. Cafe con libros, Nonbinarian bookstore and Word of mouth! There‘s also a specific ones for romance (The ripped bodice) in park slope! 2w
kelli7990 I want to join. 2w
Liz_M @kelli7990 Everyone welcome! Just create a physical stack, a virtual list, or a combination of both and post it. 2w

These are the reading challenges I‘m focusing on this summer.

The Unread Shelf Project - This one is for the entire year. I have until the end of the year to finish it.

Greek Mythology Challenge - This one doesn‘t have a start or finish date so I can take as much time as I need to.

30 Books In 3 Months - This one is only going on for 3 months. I will be reading past the deadline just so I can fill out the entire template with books.

Returned three books to the library and collected four. The problem with just reserving books online is that you don't see how big they are. 😬 😅

Bklover Lonesome Dove is one of my all time favorites! 2y
Leniverse @Bklover I have heard it's one of the greats! I'm excited for it. 2y
Tamra I hope you enjoy Lonesome Dove! The characters are so easy to love. 2y

ravenlee 😲😳 2y
rabbitprincess I do that all the time! Sometimes my holds end up on the oversize shelf and it takes me a couple of tries to find them because I never looked at the dimensions 😂 2y
Leniverse @Tamra Good to know as I will admit it's a bit daunting to look at! 2y
Leniverse @rabbitprincess I'm like, yeah let's make some space, return these books, man they're heavy. Then return from the library with x1.5 the weight and size 🤦‍♀️😆 2y
Tamra @Leniverse it really flies by! Enough action & character devo to keep the reader‘s interest. 😄 2y
Caroline2 I‘ve been meaning to read Lonesome dove for years. I‘ve got it on my kindle so I had no idea it was a big chungous!!! 2y
Leniverse @Caroline2 840 pages of dense, fairly small print! I'm both excited and scared 😅 2y
Caroline2 Yep!! Big books terrify me!! 😆 Think I just get scared of the commitment. With soooo many books piled up around me, I come out in a cold sweat at the thought of spending weeks with a big book! 🤦‍♀️ 2y
Leniverse @Caroline2 I will definitely be reading a few shorter books alongside it. 2y
Caroline2 That‘s a really good idea actually. 👍 2y

There‘s still time to submit your entry to win one of my #14booksin14weeks - just comment below with your guess of how many I‘ll actually get through, and which book you want to win!

The books are:
Middlemarch
Tell the Wolves I‘m Home
Things in Jars
The Wedding Date
Little Eyes
The Dead Fathers Club
The Man Who Wasn‘t There
The Zookeeper‘s Wife
Ether Day
Being Mortal
From Here to Eternity (Caitlyn Doughty)
The Reason for God
The Liars Club

Soubhiville I‘m guessing you‘ll get through 10 (especially if you do read Middlemarch since it‘s so long!) I‘d choose The Dead Fathers Club. Best of luck! I hope you‘ll enjoy them. (edited) 2y
CSeydel @Soubhiville that sounds like a very good guess! Middlemarch is huge. I tried to balance it out with some lighter titles, but we‘ll see! 2y
BookmarkTavern I‘m going to guess 11! Good luck! And I‘d love From Here to Eternity! That‘s been on my TBR for such a long time! 😅 2y

DebbieGrillo My guess is 12. I'd love to get a copy of Once There Were Wolves. I'm reading the ebook right now and I know it's going to be a keeper. 2y
CSeydel @DebbieGrillo Great guess! Just to clarify, it‘s Tell the Wolves I‘m Home - Once There Were Wolves is a very different book 😉 2y

It was a random draw between the pictured BOTM stack or a pile of Nicholas Sparks books for #14books14weeks2023 and BOTM won the draw. I‘ll be thrilled if I can read down 14 older and/or chunkier BOTMs by summer‘s end. If you wonder about the tabs on the bottom of the spines… I combine read/unread books on my shelves but tab my unread books.

@TheHeartlandBookFairy Thank you for this fun challenge!

LiteraryinPA There is something so satisfying about this picture! 2y

marleed @janeycanuck oh, I‘m glad you liked it. It would truly help my goal if that s turns into a single day read for me, too! 2y

Hey Littens! I decided to do a giveaway based on the #14books14weeks2023 challenge. Enter to win one of the pictured books! (US and Canada only, sorry.)

DEADLINE TO ENTER IS SATURDAY, MAY 27.

To enter, comment on this post with:
A. Your guess at how many of the 14 books I‘ll finish
B. Which book from this stack you‘d like to win

That‘s it! If there are multiple correct guesses who choose the same prize, I‘ll draw the winner at random.

Ruthiella A. Go big or go home! I say you will finish all 14! 👍 B. If I win, I‘d like the Penguin classic of Middlemarch ! (edited) 2y
TiredLibrarian A. 13. There's always that one that's too boring or irritating to finish. B. The Man Who Wasn't There looks interesting. Thanks for hosting this giveaway! 📚❤ 2y
CSeydel @Ruthiella omg, the pressure! “Do, or do not: there is no try”. But you know Middlemarch is 800 pages, right?? 😆 2y
CSeydel @TiredLibrarian There‘s always one! Maybe more than one! Hopefully they‘re all great and I just have to not get off course with library books…and CampLitsy… 😬 Fun fact, the author of The Man Who Wasn‘t There was my classmate in the UC Santa Cruz scicomm program! 2y

Omg. ❤️ The Summer Reading Program at our library starts in two days! 📖😎☀️ I'M SO EXCITED! This year we're giving tweens and teens not only a free book of their choice when they finish, but also a free book when they sign up! 😱🎉 WOW! Because I am the luckiest librarian ever, it's my job to pick out and order the prize books! I set a cart up for Saturday with some of their options! See anything you like? 😀

#librarylove #librariansoflitsy

Bigfoot Can I be in this reading program? Lol 3y
quietjenn I get to order our summer reading prize books, too. It‘s one of my favorite job duties every year. 😎 3y
vivastory I think I'd pick the Yancey! I've been curious about it since falling in love with his Monstrumologist books last year 3y

Branwen @OliviaV You absolutely can! 😂 You don't even need a library card to participate! Sadly, the adults don't get a book for signing up though! 😿 @quietjenn Isn't it so much fun?! What did you choose for this year that you're super excited about? @vivastory I've heard GREAT things about the Monstrumologist books! How many are there? 3y
vivastory There are 3 of them. I jumped immediately into book 2 after I finished the first one which I almost never do. I still need to read the final book but I don't want to end the series. 3y

It's the last day of summer! Buzzfeed posted this cute challenge a few months ago and I was able to check off all the prompts ✅
It's been a fun summer for reading, now I'm looking forward to fall 🍂😊

I‘m sharing my summer reading chart for this month. I‘m enjoying filling these reading charts out. Instead of coloring in the stars after finishing a book, I‘ve been adding the book covers.

Here‘s my progress on #30booksin3months. I might end up finishing this before the deadline or by the deadline. Last summer when I participated in this challenge, I didn‘t finish by the deadline so I read past it. I‘ve read so much this month because I‘m participating in #bookishbingo.

Need ANOTHER Summer Reading Challenge? Early Bird Books is having one where you read 6 books between 6/1-9/3 & have the potential of winning 50+ books they recommend. I signed up because I like books 📚📚📚😉 & the 6 prompts are pretty much already in my summer #TBR. Open to U.S. residents.

Link to sign up is below ⬇️

Is anyone participating in the #BuzzFeedBooks summer challenge? It looks fun but the way my slump is going idk if I‘ll make it.

Hestapleton I feel like the challenge prompts across the board are getting more and more specific, which makes it less fun for me. :/ 4y
ShananigansReads @Hestapleton yes! And I tend to read what I want then find challenge prompt it fits and thats really difficult lately. 4y
Hestapleton @Bookjunkie57 YES. Or the prompt is specific to a genre I don‘t enjoy or requires me to go far out of my way to read something I just don‘t like. I get going out of your comfort zone, but still. Not everyone likes everything lol 4y
peanutnine Looks fun! I might give it a go 4y

TODAY IS OFFICIALLY THE FIRST DAY OF SUMMER READING AT MY LIBRARY! WHOO HOOOOOO! 🎉🎉🎉

The theme is Tails and Tales, so animal books are going to be highlighted! 🐒🦊🐢

This is seriously the BEST time of year to be a librarian, especially if you work with kids or teens! It's so fun to get everyone excited about reading and about wonderful books! 💕📚💕

Can you tell how excited I am? 🤣😂

Ruthiella I don‘t know. Your usual levels of excitement are pretty high! 😆❤️ 4y
Tamra 👏🏾👏🏾 4y
GingerAntics 💙💙💙 I loved when I got to read what I wanted for the summer. 4y

peanutnine Hey that's the same theme at my library this summer! 😄 4y
kspenmoll 🎉😀 4y
dylanisreading Same theme at my library too! 4y
Branwen @Bianca @peanutnine That's so fantastic! ? @GingerAntics SAME! I have such fond memories of summer reading when I was a kid! ? @kspenmoll @Tamra ??? @Ruthiella AHAHAHAHA! THAT'S VERY ACCURATE! ????? I showed your comment to my fiance and we were both dying of laughter! He said, "Well she's not wrong!" ??? 4y
GingerAntics I loved summer reading when I was a kid. We lived a block from the library so I‘d walk up there and look at all the books, trying to find just the right ones. I was not a fan of summer reading in high school. They gave us one book, no choice, and the second week of school there was a test on it. 🙄 4y
Branwen @GingerAntics Boooooooo! Your Summer Reading in high school sounds terrible! It seems like they missed the whole point, which is TO MAKE READING A FUN ACTIVITY, NOT A CHORE! 4y
GingerAntics @Branwen exactly! Instead of offering multiple books with similar themes and making it a discussion, oh no, it was just read and test and move on to the next book. One year the book was Grapes of Wrath and I hated every second of it (though I usually did those three years). 4y

Running errands, I stopped by the doorway desk of the library to pick up my Summer Reading Challenge reward bag. This is what 1000 minutes (the limit) gets you (at least as an adult!) besides a bunch of entries into the drawing for airline tickets. There‘s a little tote bag, Hawaii Library appliqué, travel metal straw & cleaning brush, Sun Chips, Korean seaweed snack, iced tea & a McDonald‘s GC for a small treat. Wonder what was in the kids bag??

LeahBergen How fun is this? 👏🏻 5y
DebinHawaii @LeahBergen It‘s fun but I was really hoping for a bookmark! Last year I got a cute Jane Austen one. Still, you can never have enough reading snacks & metal straws! 😉🤗🤣 5y
Hestapleton That‘s awesome!! Our prize was a window decal and entries for a grocery gift card 😂 5y
DebinHawaii @Hestapleton Hah! I guess I should count my blessings! 🤗I do really love the little tote bag—perfect size for a book! 5y

How did I miss this??? I may be 6 weeks late but I‘m still going for it!!! #PopSummer2020
I saw my bestie @KarenUK using the hashtag and I thought she was trippin on the regular #Pop20 challenge
Here‘s the link: https://www.popsugar.com/entertainment/summer-reading-challenge-2020-47538152/am...

I think some of my June/July reads will work for a few prompts 🙌🏻🥳

KarenUK So excited you are joining me, my lovely! I retroactively included my June reads from before I officially started too! 😏💕 5y
Cinfhen There are a few prompts I‘m not excited about... and a few I‘m stumped on..... @KarenUK 5y
Abailliekaras This is making me dream of summer! (Winter here and i‘m unlikely to be travelling anywhere 😉). 5y

mom2bugnbee I'm going to retroactively use June & July books also! 😁 Thanks for this! 5y
aperfectmjk I don't think I would do well with this challenge... a lot of the tasks don't seem to fit my current reading plans. Big fan of challenges though, they're always a good time. Good luck to all participating. 5y
Cinfhen Good luck @mom2bugnbee 👍🏽🧡I‘m not sure how successful I‘ll be @aperfectmjk as some of the prompts are a reach for me but I‘m gonna try @Megabooks 💁🏼‍♀️ 5y

Comment 👇🏻 and thanks in advance! Going to start with “They Called Us Enemy” and go from there (because I have a copy on hand lol)

brittanyreads It's rated ages 8-12, so may be a tad young but I'm 33 and thoroughly enjoying Nightbooks! 🤣 About halfway through it now. It's about a witch that kidnaps kids and a kidnapped boy that has to read her scary stories to stay alive. It's quite good! 5y

OK, here are my stats for @Andrew65 ‘s #JoysOfJune challenge: I finished three of my four books and am 27% into the 4th one.

I actually feel pretty good about what I accomplished as our college son came home on Wednesday for a Father‘s Day visit, and we spent a lot of time with him. 💙

Thanks for the push, @Andrew65 ! 👍🙌🏼😊 Happy to have a few more off my TBR list!

Andrew65 You should feel good, that‘s brilliant. Well done and thanks for playing along. 🍾🥂👏👏👏🙌😊👍😁 5y
robinb @Andrew65 thanks! Not too shabby for a slow reader. 🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
Andrew65 @robinb It was great, I hope you join us again next month for the July Readathon, title yet to be decided. 5y

Started my library's summer reading challenge yesterday. They are using an app called Beanstack for tracking. Should be interesting. My old library only used paper.

LibrarianRyan My library changes programs every year it seems, and there never seems to be an instruction. I asked last year, and they are not reopen because of COVID this year yet, but I hope it goes live soon.

5y
TieDyeDude @LibrarianRyan Ours is basically open for returns and holds. No browsing, online programs. 5y

Are we not getting a Goodreads Summer Reading Challenge this year? Guide came a few days ago but no Challenge List.
Or am I just impatient? 🤓

Jeannineth I was wondering the same thing? 5y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Jeannineth I'm guessing not since it's the day after Memorial Day and still nothing. I wonder why? Seems like the perfect work at home thing for some Goodreads employee. 💁‍♀️ 5y

Anyone else doing a library #summerreadingchallenge with your little ones? We signed up late but have been enjoying it. They‘ve even become fans of #audiobooks and #ebooks as a result. #librarianmom #raisingreaders

AbhisekBasu Check out the scariest book you'll read this year. Link in bio! ☠️ 6y
Karkar That looks like Boo from Mario Brothers. 👻 6y
AlaMich I think audiobooks for kids are a great thing, maybe even as a steppingstone to print books for reluctant readers. 6y

Have you seen this great idea by @Librarybelle and @ferskner ???

So my question is, what's your favourite cozy crime series? 🤩 I already have some cozy crimes on my tbr, but maybe you inspire me for another series!?!? 😁

#cozyinthesun

Librarybelle Thank you for reposting! There are so many fun cozy series...an automatic read for me is Joanne Fluke‘s Hannah Swensen mystery series. Hannah is a baker in Minnesota who has a knack for finding dead bodies! There are also recipes throughout the books. The earlier books are better than the more recently published (there are a lot of books). First book is 6y
BookishBelle I really enjoy the Fixer Upper series by Kate Carlisle and the Wishcraft series by Heather Blake. 6y
melissanorr I love so many cozy series! The bibliophile mysteries by Kate Carlisle, the Auction Block series by Loretta Ross, and the book store series by Paige shelton 6y

mabell What a fun question! Because I like kooky, eclectic, and lighthearted, one of my favorite series is Donna Andrews‘ Meg and family beginning with 6y
yourfavouritemixtape I like Agatha Raisin, even though I roll my eyes a lot when reading it 😄 I recently discovered Jenn McKinlays bookish series and liked it a lot. 6y
Sarah83 @yourfavouritemixtape thank you so much. I just downloaded it. 🤩🤩🤩 6y
yourfavouritemixtape @Sarah83 yay!! I hope you like it! 6y
ferskner Thank you for reposting! Mine is probably the Goldy Bear catering series by Diane Mott Davidson. At least, I've read those the most! 6y

Finally got my May wrap-up together. A good reading month with a total of 10 books.

4 ~ Physical books
5 ~ Audio books
1~ Ebook (Netgalley)

Have not yet gotten my June TBR list together yet. I am waiting on my #BEA and #BookCon2019 books to arrive. I shipped everything FedEx. Once they arrive and I have had time to sort and catalog them I will be able to get a game plan together.

☀️📚It‘s almost time for my library‘s summer reading challenge to begin! 📚☀️

I love our libraries approach, which includes a variety of activities broken into a few categories: read, play, explore, write, create, and give. 📝 🚲 🏊🏼‍♀️ 🖼

What does your library offer during their summer reading program?

jb72 Our library seems to only be offering children‘s programs. I did speak with the library director about an adult summer program so hopefully she‘ll come up with something. 6y
alisiakae @jb72 Hopefully they‘ll add something! Our library makes it easy by having an online dashboard where we can log hours/minutes for each family member in one central place. 6y
