Can confidently say this was the weirdest book I've ever read. And I've read a lot of Tom Robbins so that's saying something.
This was really weird. Fun, but so weird. A man goes on a hike and falls into an adventure reminiscent of a video game. Funny and horrific, a very unique read. 4⭐️

YALLLLLL, what the heck did I just read????? I loved it!! I‘ll never see a crab again without thinking about this book.
Weird? Yes, please. I‘m totally in the mood
What a fantastic #speculativespringswap #sss haul!
Thank you @Mynameisacolour for the three very good looking books and all the swag/treats!
Thank you for organizing @Avanders
If Dorothy was a middle aged man, this would be her Oz. I wasn‘t sure about this one since I don‘t typically like fantasy, but it pulled me in. Good characters, good villains, good plot, good moral, wrapped up with a perfect single moment at the end. Highly recommended.
Day 5 of #litsysummercamp One of my favorite books involving hiking is the tagged book. So crazy but awesome! I really enjoy a good hike, the pic is my tot and I taking a stroll through the woods. 🌲🌲🌲
@ImperfectCJ
I‘m posting one book per day from my ever-increasing TBR. No description. No explanation. Just books to read. Join the fun if you want.
Day 38.

Happy litsyversary @shadowspeak17 !!🥳 One of the weirdest books I have read in awhile is The Hike by Drew Magary (tagged) Two books I'd like to win are They can't kill us until they kill us or Dracul. Here are my little weirdos being weird😹 #embracetheweirdgiveaway
Noticed I forgot to record this in #SummerFun in my review post!
@4thhouseontheleft @StayCurious
#ReadingNow: Nothing like reading a surreal adventure involving a character who is a giant crab at the beach. Fantastic ending!
#SummerFun @StayCurious
In the vein of the greatest stumble-into-adventure stories like Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz but for adults, The Hike is full of fantastic imagery, humor, and heart from the very first step, never taking itself too seriously or demystifying its treacherous wonder.
Technically I have about 70 pages to go--but since it's the end of June, wanted to post my last #readyoursign challege book ♋ Who knew I would just happen to have something involving a crab (of all things) sitting on my shelf!!
I honestly assumed I would hate this--holy crap, what a hoot! This is one of those "WTH" and "of course..." stories that just gets more and more ridiculous. And I'm loving every second of it!

#readyoursign #cancer Crab on cover/in book
What an odd little book🤔 ~ the oddest I‘ve read in a while. I got it as an Audible Daily Deal. And I listened to it now because I saw the crab on the cover. I‘m doing #readyoursign so why not use it?
I don‘t know what I thought I was getting, but I had no idea I was getting this ☝🏻. But I definitely liked it. It ran a little long - there‘s a whole chapter or two I would have cut. Still, a pick.
October wrap up, just a couple of days late 🤫😉. The tagged book and Heart: A History were my favorites for this month.

Finished this book while getting an oil change. What an awesomely weird little book. I can see how it might not be everyone‘s cup of tea but I enjoyed it. It‘s the story of Ben who gets placed on the Path where some traumatic things happen and he has to struggle to get back to his family. Once Ben decided to take control instead of letting things happen he was able to make sense of what was happening to him. A lesson to be learned if you ask me.

These two books came to mind for #camping. A totally trippy hike in the woods and a nonfic about a man who went off and lived in the Olympic forest by himself.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ for this one. It's kind of an allegory/Alice in Wonderland/Kafkaesque fantasy about a man who goes for a much longer hike than he intended. Compelling writing style. A couple of great sidekicks.
Tore through this bizarre dream quest of a book! Ben is on a business trip and decides to take a short hike before dinner but ends up trapped on a mysterious path. The path brings many challenges, but if he steps off, he'll die. Amidst giant crickets, undead demons, and talking crabs, Ben must keep following the path by day and dreaming revisionist dreams of his life by night. Can he make it to the end of the journey and return home?
This was a strange and trippy journey! I‘m not sure I understood all of it, but I enjoyed the ride!
What a wild & crazy ride! But I enjoyed it immensely! This is definitely one of my top reads so far! BUT, I must say, it might not be for everyone; you either hate or love it. Try a sample maybe? Then decide for yourself. As for me, I'm glad I took the risk :)
Thank you @TheLibrarian & @Mynameisacolour for highly recommending it! 😊 ❤️

“The Hike” is like “The Truman Show” but with NEW Jim Carey playing all of the roles: darker Jim Carey; questing for enlightenment Jim Carey; seems like he might be kind-of an asshole Jim Carey. The best part is explaining the extreme weirdness of what you‘re reading to others. The worst part is some of the language (e.g. “Don‘t be a puss(y)”). It often feels like a book written by a “dude” for other “dudes.” But the imagined world is rich. 👇🏻
Wow. Two things. First, The Hike is high as all hell on something. Second, its absolutely bloody brilliant: http://bit.ly/2Ij283i
Look at all the #LitsyLove packed into one card. I had worked 3rd shift when it arrived & didn't notice until this morning that MY name was on the front of the card. How cool! Tagged book is Jee's current read.
“And then he came to the half-mile marker & found a circle of benches built from tree trunks...There was a stone pit in the center & a pile of ashes. From any seat, you had a nice vantage point of the surrounding Poconos. You could smoke pot here. You could play guitar here. You could split a flask of whiskey here & then go have sex behind a tree. It was that kind of spot. A good spot.”
I think that if Chuck Palahniuk's Damned met up with One of Stephen King's Dark Tower books and they had a baby this would be it. A bizarre, compelling and hilarious little tot. My favorite book of 2019 so far for sure. 🖤💛🖤
It's been a long week already and Haymitch and I are both in need of some R&R. Starting the tagged book and hoping to be able to keep the ol' peeps open for more then a page or two.
Seriously, buy this crazy book!
In this “immensely entertaining” USA Today bestseller (Library Journal starred review), a suburban dad‘s business trip becomes a bizarre odyssey when a short hike leads him into the terrifying unknown! A humorous fantasy adventure with over 3,200 five-star ratings on Goodreads.

If you‘re a fan of weird books! 🦀🔪
This book was "meh" and took me a year to finish. While the images that Magary paints are unique and fantasical, for me it lacked the ability to captivate. I found myself distracted while reading and never fully able to get engrossed in the text. I wouldn't say it was a complete flop, however, because of the originality of the plot. It was definitely different. And for that alone Magary deserves great props.
What did I just listen to? This was the most bizarre book I have ever encountered. If you are up for a bit of WTF is happening... this one is for you. The first night commute I was a bit scared to get out of my car then it just got weirder and weirder as it went. This finishes off my good reads goal though!! 3 🌟🌟🌟
1. Went on a hike!
2. Reading
3. Tagged
4. A cozy sweater

Great kindle deal today! Highly recommend- I read this in one sitting!
The Hike by Drew Magary #currentlyreading
"...a fantasy saga unlike any you've read before, weaving elements of folk tales and videogames into a riveting, unforgettable adventure of what a man will endure to return to his family."
I have just finished the first two chapters and I have this feeling that I am in for a treat. ???
Had this view for my reading most of this week (work trip). Still finished Sharp Objects, The Cabin at the End of the World and started The Hike. I have to get all that reading in before school starts! I won‘t have time then!
Finished up book 11 for my #24in48 almost exactly as I hit 21 hours. Here's hoping I can finish one more around 6:30pm and make it #12for24in48... because maths.
What a trippy and harrowing journey of self discovery! Allegorical, metaphorical and other -icals but also a very real and very wild journey with important consequences. Magary does a tremendous job butting realistic reactions and self aware dialogue against fairy tale situations and the fantastical; hilarious and heart-rending often on the same page. Squidapus thinks more books should have better crab representation as he was the best character.
It's a mind-bending, metaphysical, cathartic story of a man who goes on a hike and winds up...well, it's hard to say where. It's a great read, funny and touching and weird as hell, in a good way.
