ElizaMarie I finished this 2 days ago (I had been doing so good at just watching one daily but... I couldn't help myself!) Anyway, I loved it! I loved the happy ending :) It was super cute. I think the actors were amazing! I loved everyone they picked! 3y

katy4peas 🤔 my sister‘s boyfriend asked me out first and then asked her out a week later after I said no and they have been together for almost 4 years. I‘m the reason they met though! Yay, relationships! 😬 4y

TheAromaofBooks I think this interpretation of Wickham creates the Wickham that I hate the most, if that makes sense haha He's SUCH a sleezeball here & watching him manipulate Lydia into depending on him, isolating her from her family, undermining her self-esteem - sooo hard to watch but done so believably! @sprainedbrain @katy4peas 4y

CrowCAH @TheAromaofBooks correct. It‘s hard to like him even a little or feel sorry for him. 4y

ElizaMarie I had my college roommate's boyfriend hit on me one night and it was super awful! That and then she was all upset with me because I had asked her not to let him spend the night because he was leering at me and sat on the bed while I was sleeping! Ugh it was horrible! 4y

CrowCAH @ElizaMarie ugh, that is super creepy. I shared a room with a woman at college and one night I woke up to her and her boyfriend having sex just a couple feet away! Talk about awkward. 4y

ElizaMarie @CrowCAH Ha I have woken up with something similar too. It is so weird. like I had to pee but I couldn't get up to pee because then they would know that I was awake and saw them!

katy4peas For New Years, we always work on a jigsaw puzzle with music on in the background. Sometimes the tv is on and sometimes not. Usually we still go to bed early though. For the Millennium year, my parents woke my sis and me up so we could bang on pots and pans. We did that but were so disappointed that nothing changed at midnight that we went back to bed. The Magic was gone! 😂 and sleep was much more important. 4y

MaureenMc On NYE, we play video games all night and watch the ball drop at midnight. My 8-yo loves being able to stay up so late! I‘m usually ready for bed way before she is. 😆 4y

sprainedbrain My favorite holiday tradition in our NYE with a bunch of family: drinking, eating, and board games. 😊 4y

sprainedbrain I‘m not sure why Jane is so worried about Lizzie... but she does need to have a plan for what she‘s going to do when she leaves school! Also, I totally cheated and finished last weekend. Whoops! 😂 4y

TheAromaofBooks I can remember being Lizzie, where it felt like everyone else had A PLAN - I never really had a career that appealed to me. I'm pretty happy with how life played out, though. I've worked loads of random jobs & learned all sorts of random things. Now I work seasonally at an orchard & a greenhouse, so most of my work time is spent outside & active, which I love! 4y

sprainedbrain Caroline is finally showing herself in this to be as nasty as the original. And this Darcy is cute! But he‘s no MacFadyen or Firth. 😂 4y

TheAromaofBooks I had completely forgotten that the way we are “personally“ introduced to Darcy is during the proposal/big blow up scene. It somehow made it feel natural to bring him on camera that way. I love the way this Darcy delivers his lines. (“You called me a robot. And a newsie.“) Always good times. I'm a little behind, so I haven't gotten to the Caroline drama yet & can't remember exactly how it unfolds! 4y

katy4peas I like this Darcy, but I really like Fitz. Can‘t wait to see how Lizzie reconciles with Darcy in this one. I felt bad for him catching her calling him a robot. 4y

TheAromaofBooks I just can't get over how well Mr. Collins is updated in this version. I'm behind on the chapter-a-day reading of P&P, so I actually was reading the chapter about Elizabeth visiting Rosings right when I was watching this & the parallels are fantastic! 4y

TheAromaofBooks There was a sense of isolation coming from Lizzie as the week went along. Early 20s are an awkward age when everyone you've known is starting to find their own way, each at a different pace. 4y

TheAromaofBooks I think I would probably accept if I was in Lizzie or Charlotte's situation. Lizzie is being a little too idealistic, plus accepting a job now doesn't mean that you're throwing away your entire life. She can always finish school or find a more meaningful job later, except now she'll have more money + skills/experience! 4y

meghathecloud I think I would. This is a good opportunity, and however irritating Mr. Collins may be, his offer is of a business partnership and getting such a position in a well funded venture can add some real value to her professional life. 4y

katy4peas I‘m in a similar spot now where I am working two part time jobs. I have a hard time even choosing to interview for a full time position when I know it means I will have to leave my other job or both jobs. I love both of my jobs and the different things I do at each along with the people. This has prevented me from interviewing well for a full time position. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I totally feel Lizzie on this one! 4y

CrowCAH @katy4peas yes, that must be a tough decision, especially if the people are great at both places. Perhaps “after” COVID things will be a bit different. 4y

meghathecloud @CrowCAH I imagine there will be many other co-workers to counterbalance Mr. Collins. But, yeah we do need a bit more detail. And given Mr. Collins' habit of talking over her, they may be difficult to extract. 4y

Linsy I feel like I would take the job, but if she really can't stand Collins without yelling at him, maybe it's best that she doesn't go into business with him. However, Charlotte can do whatever she wants! I know it's modeling the book, but there is nothing wrong with Charlotte taking care of her future. 4y

CrowCAH @Linsy I agree, it‘s probably best Lizzie didn‘t take the job. Correct, Charlotte is thinking of the future, not only the present or her love life. It will be a good experience for her. 4y

Is Lizzie a man hater? She sure doesn‘t have anything nice to say about Darcy. She‘s abrupt and rude to Ricky Collins. Though, she is nice to Bing Lee. And we haven‘t heard from Wickham in awhile whom she kinda likes.

What about all those direct quotes from the book? They add a nice touch to the play-acting scenes!

Any who comment get put in a random drawing and receive a bundle of Jane Austen and P&P goodies from me!

TheAromaofBooks I'm not sure she's a man-hater, but I do think she prides herself on her snap judgments and then doesn't like to back off of them. She seems to quickly sort people in good and bad bins, and then find reasons to back up her decision to put them there. 4y

ElizaMarie I really like Ricky.. I mean Mr. Collins' character :) in this show. Its super cute how they made him a bit mansplainer, oblivious and just wow! Great characterization there.

Also, yes! Lizzy complains about Darcy so much but really there isn't enough examples as to why he is so awful! Sounds like he is just awkward. 4y

sprainedbrain I don‘t think she‘s a man-hater... she seems quite fond of Wickham. I think she‘s just a little too quick with her prejudices. Just like the original Lizzy! 4y

Cheshirecat913 Lizzie is quick to make judgements and if they are not personalities she likes she is quite outspoken about it. I think she is really judgemental of Lydia as well, some of the things she has said about her are a bit harsh. 4y

Same with Bing, she was so skeptical at first. Maybe not a man hater, but a man skeptic for sure. And I agree with everyone else! She takes a judgement from first impressions and is hard to sway after that, just like in the book. 💕 4y

katy4peas I think there is some bitterness and resentment towards the men also because her mother pushes her towards them so quickly. She wants to be independent and choose to meet and like these men on her own terms without her mother pushing her (or her sisters). Yes, she is quick to judge with her first impressions, but some of that is pushback towards her mother I think. 4y

CrowCAH @katy4peas a good observation- on her own time. We‘ll have to keep watching to see if she amends her opinion and chooses to like one of them back. 4y

And the house is being remodeled, so everyone is homeless: getting Jane and Lizzie to board at Netherfield, and Lydia at cousin Mary‘s house (extra Li-dee-yaa videos!)

Is it ethical to show Bing Lee on the vlog without him knowing it‘s going out on the internet and not “just to Charlotte”?

sprainedbrain Probably not so ethical, but he knows he‘s being recorded, so idk. He‘s adorable though! And Ricky Collins is just so Collinsy. 😂 4y

TheAromaofBooks Not ethical, but did they cast him perfectly or what?? Getting to see him & Jane together really adds a new dimension to their story & I love it. I also think that this may be my favorite version of Mr. Collins - by removing the “romance“ aspect of his character, it emphasizes his self-absorption to a whole new level haha Also - what about Lydia getting her own videos?? I kind of love cousin Mary...

TheAromaofBooks @sprainedbrain - I've been watching the videos via the playlist on Pemberley Digital, which means that if you just click to the next post, you get to see Twitter exchanges between the characters, posts from Jane's tumblr, and also random blog posts from the creators of the series. The most recent post was about trying to make Lydia's character more sympathetic than it is in the book without changing too much about her, which I feel like has ⬇ 4y

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) happened. She's still brash and boy-crazy, but there are also glimpses of uncertainty and insecurity that make her more sympathetic. 4y

ElizaMarie I agree I don't think its entirely a good thing that that he doesn't know. Especially that beautiful video of how sweet and adorable they were. I mean that was such a cute private moment (even If the thought Charlotte would be seeing them) -- I love this series ooo much! I am so glad I joined with you all! 4y

katy4peas I don‘t think it is fair. It is different for Charlotte to see it vs the whole internet and to film for a friend vs the public. Very well cast! 4y

TheAromaofBooks I originally did watch these in “real time“ when they were being released & haven't seen them since, so it is SO fun to go back and watch them again (at a much faster pace - it felt like FOREVER between videos when they were first coming out!) - and I'm already excited all over again about how well they create/cast/present Wickham's character. Well when I first got divorced I had had some “meaningless relationships“ (very generous with the term relationships) with these personal trainer - gym type guys --- It was fun while it lasted but no substance and you can only talk about working out so many times when you get over it! I was older than these guys but.. yeah it didn't feel that way initially till I was out of that phase and met my now husband. 4y

katy4peas I feel so connected to Lizzie (except for her family) as I am in a similar part of life to her. Although I have finished grad school and am a bit older than her now, but still single and home with my parents while working part time jobs. 🤷🏼‍♀️ sometimes I‘m good with it and sometimes I feel way behind my friends and the norm. 4y

Linsy That jello!!! It horrified and intrigued me. I grew up around a lot of jello invention. But what it really made me think of was the time my dad asked my best friend's dad (a chef) to make ice cream out of spaghetti o's. It honestly wasn't that bad, you just had to avoid the noodles. 4y

TheAromaofBooks I really love the way these episodes have matched up with the chapters being read in the actual book - I'd forgotten how much to-ing and fro-ing there was in the book before Jane's caught-in-the-rain visit, and I think the videos capture that with all these little run-ins and dinner invites. Also, I think Charlotte is my fave! 4y

What‘s your “first impressions” of them; like, hate?

sprainedbrain I like them all! Of course Lizzie (since she‘s one of my favorite characters ever), and Jane is so sweet and good, it‘s impossible not to like her. And I even like Lydia in this... she‘s just as obnoxious as in P&P but she‘s fun. 😂 4y

TheAromaofBooks I feel like they've done such a good job capturing the “essence“ of each character - Lizzie is independent & sassy... and tends to cling to first impressions. Jane is shy & thoughtful & not very good at sticking up for herself. Lydia is brash & obnoxious but still somehow likable! 4y

MaureenMc I adore the actress who played Lydia in this version. She makes her so fun! 😄 4y

Lydia seems really brash but I think that just her playing up a modern day Lydia. And you really get a sense of Lizzie's prejudice, her not looking past her first impressions of people. 4y

ElizaMarie So. I don't have a frame of reference (as I haven't read Pride and Prejudice yet -- this month baby!) Anyway but I love these sisters! They are so likable. I can't imagine what it would be like to grow up with 2 sisters! I think of course I like Lizzie the best (but she is the one I know the most so far - and her friend is super adorable!) I like how Lydia is “fun“. I love her cameos! Jane I don't feel I know her yet. 4y

catebutler I thought they did a pretty good job with getting each of the characters down. I particularly loved how they even did a great job with physical cues and expressions. So fun! 4y

meghathecloud I like all 3 sisters in this version. As others have said above, they capture the essence of the sisters perfectly so that their behaviours are very believable in a modern setting. I also like how the dynamic between Charlotte and Lizzie plays out with Charlotte trying to level out Lizzie's judgements. 4y

Some of the tweets do add some insight into the not-Bennet characters. 4y

Friends, here is my barely legible schedule for the LBD watch for the #PemberLittens. I'm terrible at reading/watching one chapter a day, but love to do things like this in small blocks, so having a schedule helps me catch up/not get too far ahead. Each block is a week, and the bottom right has my "key"...basically my understanding is that we are watching one LBD a day, and fitting the extras in as they come along, so for each day you watch the ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) main episode first, then any other extras should be watched before the next LBD episode. So like on Sept. 7 you would watch LBD no. 46, Q & A no. 5, and Maria Lu no. 3. No idea if this is helpful to anyone else... the small scribbles are episodes that had names but not numbers haha

I highly recommend watching the first few videos to see if you'll like them, and even if you don't have time to watch them now, save them for later as they're quite enjoyable!! 4y

Thank you @CrowCAH for telling me about The Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube. It took me months to get around to it, but then I binged on the whole series + spinoffs in three days. Then I promptly ordered the book with all the off camera action. Best modern setting adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Best! ❣️

I loved this silly, sweet, modern version of Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice. This book followed the main idea of P&P faithfully. There were a few differences, but they worked well. Not great literature, but definitely five stars for enjoyment.
